Lie To Me

Let's Get Back To Where We Started.

Riley’s P.O.V.

I just moved back to the states from Australia. Mom’s job has brought us back to Colorado. At least I’ll have some friends here. We’re moving into our old house and my best friend is moving next door. I ran up to my bedroom so Luke knew which room to pick so we could always talk. I saw this scrawny, skater haired, 13 year old Luke running up to the window with excitement. I grabbed a notebook and worte out ‘HI! Are you excited?’ then held it to the window. He ran around trying to find a means of reply. ‘So excited!’
“Riley!” Mom called, “We’re having dinner with the Hemmings tonight.”
“Okay! I’ll be right down.”
I waved bye to Luke and quickly tried to get cute.

Luke’s P.O.V.

“Luke! We’re having the Jones’ over tonight.” Mom yelled.
“I’ll be down in a minute!” I quickly fixed my hair and threw on a better shirt.
I rushed to help mom set up the table, everything had to be perfect. Riley was coming over.
“Ooooh, Lukey has a crush.” Ben mocked.
“Do not!” I protested.
“Do too.” Jack spoke.
“Boys.” Mom groaned. “Best behavior tonight.”
There was a knock on the door. The Jones. I answered.
“Hi Mr. and Mrs. Jones”
“Hi Luke.” they smiled.
“Hi Riley.” I squeaked, literally.
She laughed. “Hi Luke.”
Wow. What a babe.
--
After dinner I invited Riley up to my room.
“So what do you do for fun?” She asked.
“I sing covers of songs”
“Really? Like what?”
“I was thinking of doing You Found Me by the Fray.”
“Can I have a preview?” She blushed.
“Definitely!”
Aside from my mom, no one has ever asked to hear me sing.
“Wow, Luke. You should put that on YouTube.”
“I-- I don’t know...”
“I think you are very talented. Someone else will too.” she smiled.
“Really?”
“Really.”
“You’re amazing.” I blurted.
“What are best friends for?”
“Riley! Time to go home.” Her mom yelled from the kitchen.
“We can talk in the window when I get there!” she exclaimed as she ran downstairs.
I’m gonna marry her one day.

Luke’s P.O.V.

“Are you ready for the first day of high school?” I asked Riley.
“Listen, I’m only prepared cause I’ve got my best friend.”
“Same.” I blushed with a chuckle.
We walked up to the large building and stopped. There were groups of kids of every kind surrounding us. Goths, jocks, cheerleaders.
“Wow.” we gasped together.
“Luke...”
“Riley...”
“Promise me something.”
“Anything.” I quickly responded.
“No matter what happens over the next four years, we’ll have each other?”
“Always.” I smiled, squeezing her hand.
We bravely walked in the school hand in hand and our lives would never be the same.

*a few months later*

“Luke!”
“Riley! Guess what!”
“What?”
“The boys are coming here for a bit and I think the band is really going to take off.”
“That’s awesome!”
“I know!”
“Hey, are you going to homecoming?” I asked.
“I’m gonna miss this one. I’m gonna have a lot of practice with the boys.”
“Oh.. Right. I totally get it.” My expression sunk, but Luke didn’t notice.
“I gotta get home, but I’ll write you tonight and do our usual bedtime routine.”
I smiled, “Deal.”
Luke walked away.
“Riley?” a boy from my math class asked.
“Yeah?”
“I was just wondering... Would you like to go to homecoming with me?”
“Really? Sure!”

Luke’s P.O.V.

I wrote out everything I was going to say to ask Riley to homecoming when she gets home. I heard a few pebbles hit my window.
“Riley!”
“Luke!” she smiled gorgeously, “Guess what!”
“What?”
“That boy from my math class, Corey, asked me to homecoming!”
“Oh. That’s. Awesome.”
“I can’t wait!”
“I hope you have a lot of fun. Dinner is almost ready. I should go.”
“Bedtime though right?”
I couldn’t help but smile, “Always.”

Riley’s P.O.V.

‘Luke, I need to talk to.’ I wrote out and taped it to my window til he got home. Shortly after I heard pebbles on my window. Luke shyly waved and opened his window.
“Are you okay?” he asked, the water works began. “Meet me outside in 5 minutes. I’ll make it better, I promise.”
I nodded and shut my window. I tried to fix myself, but I’m not sure there was much left to fix. I met Luke in our shared drive.
“Let’s go to our place.” He smiled, taking my hand. He had his guitar on his back, I knew he’d make me smile.
After a short hike we were in ‘our place’. A large rock in the woods just behind our houses.
“So what happened?”
“Where do I start?” I chuckled, holding back tears.
“The beginning, and when you get to the end stop.” he smiled sweetly.
“Corey broke up with me... He-- he--” I burst into tears. Luke pulled me close, “He cheated on me.”
“I’ll kill him.” Luke spoke, enraged.
“Luke.”
“Riley.”
We sat in silence for a few minutes while I caught my breath.
“Will you play me a song?”
“It’s something in the works.. Don’t judge, and I promise it is not the best time to show you this, but... Well, here”
I was a little nervous, but when he started strumming I just listened.
“I dedicate this song to you,
The one who never sees the truth,
That I can take away your hurt, heartbreak girl.
Hold you tight straight through the daylight,
I'm right here, when you gonna realize
That I'm your cure, heartbreak girl?”
“Wow.” I exhaled.
“Riley I-”
Before he could finish, I leaned in and crashed my lips to his.
“I’m sorry!” I yelled after.
“Don’t be.”
“Luke, I can’t I just--”
“I’ll wait.”

Luke’s P.O.V.

I pulled out the ‘homecoming’ sign I made 2 years ago for Riley and hung it in the window. I patiently waited for Riley to wake up. I quietly placed a ‘yes’ sign in her notebook, giving her no choice. I heard pebbles hitting my window. Riley.
‘Yes’ her sign read. I held up my finger for her to wait and quickly ran to her front door.
She quickly opened the door and jumped in my arms.
“Thank god you said yes!”
“You didn’t give me a choice!”
“I already bought roses and a corsage.”
She kissed my cheek, “I have to get ready. I’ll see you tonight.” she smiled.
--
A few months later I asked her to prom in the same fashion.
Riley walked down her stairs and I lost my breath. Mom smiled and patted my back, as Mr. and Mrs. Jones snapped every photo possible. I took every bit of Riley in. Her beautiful brown hairs in curls with jewels. Her dress with rhinestones on the bodice, then the dress flowing like a princess gown. Wow.
“Riley.” I breathed, lightly placing the corsage.
“Luke.” she smiled, pinning the boutineer.

I'm so glad and thankful ♡ hopefully I'll be seeing you on the prequel soon.

<3 urgh you are just the sweetest! Thank you for creating a beautiful story for me to enjoy - this and a few others were literally the only thing that kept me going while I spent 9 months studying in America so.. <3

@Kat21
I'll never argue with more of your writing for me to indulge in :D as long as there is some happiness for Luke and Riley eventually then I'm happy.. <3

@Prinny1321
I promise to give them 5 minutes of happiness.... BUT I think it'll be in a prequel so we can really fall in love with them.... AND THEN a sequel so I don't just leave you hanging on her being pregnant... Thoughts? :)

@Kat21
YOU ARE GOING TO BREAK ME INSIDE IF YOU DON'T LET THEM HAVE 5 MINS OF HAPPINESS OMG! :'( :')
