Chapter 11

I’m more than just nervous as I’m taking my first step into the dance hall. I’m wearing my tights, just like everyone else in the class. We all were awarded the same clothes, tailored to the person’s size.
No one is here. The hall is completely empty. Might actually have something to do with the fact that I almost ripped on my clothes and rushed out to the hall as fast as I could. I was extremely excited… nothing strange about that..!

I walked out to the middle of the floor. I took three deep breaths as I then took my first step. I just let the dance take over me.

THREE MOTHS LATER.
“Guys, I told you to wait!” I quickly closed my locker as I got ready to run towards Liam and Zayn, but I stopped when I saw that Niall politely were standing and waiting for me a few feet away.
“Thank you.” I said with a smile.
Now we’ve been going to school for three months. It has been the fastest three-months I’ve ever been through.
I’ve founded five real good friends; Louis, Liam, Zayn, Niall and Harry. We had become very close during these three months as we spent a lot of time together. I was glad to finally find some friends to hang out with. It was also incredibly nice to hang out with guys instead of girls for once. I just realized that I haven’t been arguing with anyone for several months.

We arrived to the school’s auditorium and waved at Harry and Louis who were waiting for us at the entrance. “Not late this time?” I joked, looking at Harry. He smiled shyly, but didn’t answer.
Somehow it was a bit cool between us. We didn’t have the same “chemistry” that I had with the rest of the guys. I had actually thought about it several times, hoping that it wasn’t because of the day I yelled at him.

I had never seen a glimpse of the person he was when he arrived late the first day, or when he helped me out with my books, and he always got quiet when I entered the room.
I guess he doesn’t like me. It’s not so strange actually, you can’t like everyone. But it was a shame.
“Talk about making an entrance!” Niall exclaimed and I smiled gratefully at him. Someone who finally appreciated my joke.

All six of us went together into the auditorium and sat in a long line. Without really knowing what was going on, all of the students were called into the auditorium. We would obviously get informed about something important.
Our very own Principal Sanders stepped out on the stage and everyone fell silent instantly. She smiled as she grabbed the microphone that was placed in front of her. “Welcome!”

Some mumbles, others applaud but the majority remain silent. The principal opens his mouth. “You’ve all been called for a special reason. Next week we will have out first…”
Our first what? Break? No, it can’t be one yet… or can it? Or perhaps a performance?!
“… Prom.”

Some sighs, other cheering, the majority scratching the back of their heads looking quizzically at the principal.
“I’m sorry for the short notice. The Prom Committee has had tons of stuff to do, and they simply… forgot that there should always be having a prom three months into every period.” She’s looking accusingly at a group of students whose sitting shamefully in a corner. “Rosie’s now going to give you more information. Rosie, do you want to come up?” The principal was looking towards the small group as she started a small applause.
A scrawny little girl goes on stage. When the applause is over, she nervously starts talking. I’m almost feeling a bit sorry for her.

“The theme of this year’s first prom…” She’s looking anxiously towards her audience. “… are Black and White.”
Some nods happily, others sink into their chairs, the majority is looking like some kind of question-marks.
“It means that that all of the clothing should be either black or… white. Ehum what else... Well, it’s obligatory; the guys wear costume, and the girls will wear a dress. If you don’t have a dress, I’m pretty sure we can arrange something!” The last thing she said, she burst out so happily that I couldn’t keep myself from laughing.

I wonder if she’s a dance- or music student. That’s almost the first thing we asked each other as soon as you started talking to someone you didn’t know.

The poor thing started to blush as she continued. “The dance is obligatory aswell… and the waltz. There are dance classes that will be mandatory for all of the students, including the music students and the dancing students.”
The half audience started to groan. The music students to be exact.
“Why?!” Someone shouted. Rosie became numb. “Because… because it… it’s just like that.”

Principal Sanders takes over the microphone as she let Rosie go back to her seat. “Yes, a lot of information at once.” She’s glancing around on the audience and meet all of the upset gazes. Waltz was nothing for all of the dancing students, but for those students who were not here for dancing… well, good luck.
“I’m aware that it will be difficult. Especially with the small amount of time that we have. But I think it will be a gun and good experience.”

She didn’t manage to convince everyone, and someone shouts out “Why can’t we teach them to sing?”
A few giggled towards the Principal Sanders whose now smiling. “Because it would be much harder to let everyone perform one song each, don’t you think? Especially when the prom is made for all of the classes in all of the grade-levels.”
Someone else shouted “Oh, burn!” And all of the students were laughing this time. “Also, I think it would be some good experience for our students who are dancing, since they’re the ones to teach you. And not to mention our wonderful musicians that will be in need of moving their hips on stage!” She winked as all grinned. “It’s your responsibility to learn to dance. You will be able to get some help from a teacher if you’re really in need.”

Following her argument, I was in fact fixed. It would be fun to learn someone else to dance waltz, a bit difficult perhaps, but fun. Hopefully I will find someone in my own little circle of friends to teac… I didn’t even have to look for anyone as I looked to the side and saw that all four hung over each other, while they looked with big eyes towards me. I laughed at their enthusiasm. Yes, all four hung over each other. Four, not five. Harry who sat the furthest away looked in a whole other direction.
