Son of a BEACH

HARRY

Final day of classes and after I find myself plopped down on a couch in Blair's basement.

"So, I invited Sam to the beach with us."
"What, why?" I groan.
"Harry." She scorns. "Because she is our friend and I'm worried about her. Plus it will do her some good to get out of that apartment and away from this town for a little bit."
I roll my eyes. "You know she is going to be a mopey emo, right?"
She gives me a glare. "Cut her some slack."
"Fine." I sigh. "But I'm not going to baby her."
Blaire rounds the couch, slipping into my lap. "You won't have the time."
I smile, wrapping my arms around her waist. "Oh yeah?"
"Oh yeah." She purrs.

The weekend comes and we make our way over to pick up Sam. Blair gabs at her about having everything but I know Sam is an over-packer. Blair volunteers to drive, getting us to the beach in record time. I step out of the car into the hot sun, finding Sam standing and staring. I look around and immediately realize the area.

"Fuck." I mumble.
I act like I don't know where we are at and go about grabbing the luggage out of the trunk of Mrs. Marshall's car. Sam claims stake on the downstairs bedroom as I follow Blair upstairs.

"Tid bit of information." I speak up.
"What's up babe?" Blair chimes.
"Cade's Uncle owns a beach house about a block down.
"So?" She shrugs.
"So." I rhetorically say. "Cade brought Sam here. Even more validation that she will be a mopey emo."
She smacks my arm. "Stop speaking of your friend like that and don't say anything. Maybe she won't realize it."
"She already did."
Blair sighs. "I'll figure something out. Just try to act like you want her here, huh."

I watch her walk out of the room before hearing her bubbly voice sound downstairs. I sigh deeply knowing what the weekend could have been had Sam not been invited. I join the chatting girls at at the kitchen island surprised at Sam's rather chipper mood.

"We are going to Tad's Crab Shack for dinner then going to check out the Boardwalk which has a club." Sam informs. "Got all that, H?"
"Uh, yeah. Sounds good."
Blair nudges me and gives me a smile.

We head out to the beach first as I fight to keep my eyes to myself. Blair's plain black bikini is nothing compared to the highly neon one Sam is wearing. It contrasts against her lightly tanned skin perfectly leaving my mouth watering.
"Is this spot ok?" Blair asks knocking me out of my day dream.
"Seems good to me!" Sam nods throwing her towel down.

I watch both girls catch a spot next to one another before gasping over the ocean. I put my towel down next to Blair, planting my butt into the center of the towel. The girls continue to oil themselves as I have to look away. Blair laughs at my clear dismissal causing me to huff. We spend a good 2 hours out on the beach before heading back to get ready for the night out. Of course the girls keep it beach themed, wearing small flowy dresses.

"I'm not letting you out of the house looking like this." I joke, kissing Blair.
"You won't have to worry. I'll let it be known who I'm with." She smiles.
I look up to see Sam staring at us from the door. She has a blank expression that quickly fades as we make eye contact. "Are you two ready?" She asks. "I'm starving."
"Yep! We are ready." Blair answers taking my hand. Sam nods swallowing back her uncomfortable feeling.

We make our way out to dinner which feels rushed as the girls want to hit the club a bit earlier. I was never one for clubs but as long as I was with Blair, I didn't care. We all get drinks finding an open booth in the corner.

"Alright, I'm going to dance! Catch ya losers later." Sam smirks prancing out on the floor "Wait! Sam!" But my demand falls on deaf ears as she disappears in the mass of bodies. "What's wrong, Harry?" Blair asks.
"I just don't think it's safe for her to be out there alone."
Blair laughs. "She can handle herself."
I nod, taking a drink from my glass. "Yeah, I guess you are right."

But she wasn't. And I wanted so badly to run out into the mob of people and find Sam to bring her back safely.

"Come Harry, let's go." Blair says yanking my hand.
"Oh no." I say, shaking my head.
She whines. "Please."
I huff. "Fine, but I suck at dancing."
"All you have to do is stand there and sway. I'll do everything else."

I follow Blair out onto the floor, finding us in the dead middle. I take this opportunity to scan the bodies trying to locate Sam.

No luck.

The loud music moves Blair's body against mine putting me into a lust filled trance. Song by song passes by as I find myself enjoying our time on the floor. I take my eyes off Blair for one minute finding Sam wrapped up in to a guy much larger than her. Instantly I feel defensive and let my body go rigid. Blair realizes and turns around taking my face into hands.

"She's fine!" She whispers into my ear. I look at her and ease my body.
I nod. "You're right. Let's go get a drink."
Blair and agrees and follows me off to the bar. I wasn't used to seeing Sam with another guy. It bothered me, like she was cheating on Cade.
On me.

The night carries on before I urge to call it quits. The loud obnoxious music was getting to my head and the alcohol was making me extremely horny.

"We have to find Sam." Blair slightly slurs.
"I know." I groan. "Come on."

We search the entire club and bar area finding no sights of Sam. I even send Blair into the bathroom just to double check. We walk out into the moist ocean air greeted with party lights of laughter of those still going strong.

"This is ridiculous." I snarl. "She knew not to wander off."
"Relax." Blair waves. "I'm sure she just walked up the boardwalk, let's go."

I reluctantly follow Blair down the boardwalk passing several outdoor bars before finding Sam. She's alone, bead hungover her drink, hair pulled back to beat the heat.

"Hey you, come on. We are ready to head back." Blair handles.
"Oh shit, sorry guys. Thought I would make it back to the club before you were done. Thank god, I'm tired." Sam sighs, dragging her feet.

I roll my eyes at her lame excuse. She was a terrible liar and everybody saw it but her. We walk back to the house in silence and keep conversation small before heading to our respective rooms.

"You know she was lying, right?"
Blair sighs. "Harry, yes. But I'm not going to point out Sam's every fault. You need to lighten up if we are going to enjoy this vacation."
"It's killing her! Don't you see it?"
"And I'm not supposed to be happy?" She spats back. "And what about you? Are you happy with being in Cade's shadow all the time."
"Don't! Don't you dare talk about Cade like that. I made promise to him."
She sighs. "It wasn't your promise to make. Now please, come to bed."
I stand there for a moment with my hands upon my hips.

Maybe Blair was right. Maybe I shouldn't be looking after Sam. And maybe I shouldn't have made that promise to Cade. But I did. And I planned on keeping it.
