What A Feeling

“Good morning, B.”
“Mmm, good morning, Niall. A girl could get used to being woken up this way.” She grins.
“Maybe we should move in together?”
Becca looks into his eyes, finding complete seriousness.
She quickly gets out of bed, throwing on her robe. “I need coffee.”
Niall gets up, throwing on some shorts, meeting her in the kitchen.
“B, we already spend every night together. Why not just live together?”
“Shit.” Becca says under her breath as she spills hot coffee on her hand. “Niall, there’s a big difference between me sleeping at your place or you sleeping at mine, and actually moving in together. That’s a serious step.”
Niall leans against the fridge, a sad look on his face. “I thought we were serious?”
Becca blows out a breath. “We are, Irish. I just need….um....I need us to slow down a bit.”
She returns to the bedroom to get ready for work.
Niall joins her, wrapping his hands around her waist. “We need to talk about this.”
Becca forces a smile. “We will. I have to get to work though. I have a full day of meetings.”
Niall nods, letting her go.
She can clearly see that he’s upset. I just can’t tell him right now.

The day seems to go on forever; various meetings occupied her day. She thought of saying something to Chris, then deciding he’s not worth the breath.
Finally able to wrap everything up, she texts Niall. ‘On my way.’

Pulling up to his house, she feels excited, but also a bit nervous. Their conversation from this morning weighing heavily on her.
As she makes her way up the walk, Niall opens the front door. Her heart does it’s familiar flip.
They embrace, neither saying a word.
Taking her hand, Niall says. “Come on in, Darling. How was your day?”
Becca notices something different in his normal joyful tone. “It was long. I’m happy to be here with you now. I missed you.”
Niall smiles. “I missed you, B.”

Becca leans against the counter, watching as Niall finishes up dinner. He looks up at her, then looks down. Something’s going on.
Just as she’s about to ask, Niall quickly says. “I’ve got to tell you something, B.”
Crap.
“What is it, Niall?”
He sighs. “I have to go to America. There’s an awards show I have to attend.”
Becca looks down. “When do you have to leave?”
Niall puts his hands on her waist, leaning his forehead against hers. “Tomorrow.”
She feels her eyes watering.
“I don’t suppose you could get any time off to join me?”
Becca shakes her head. “No, I used up the few days I had in Ireland.”
“I’ll get back to you as soon as I can, B.”
She looks up, to meet his eyes. “I’m really gonna miss you, Irish.”
“B, I don’t know what I’ll do without you.”
“I guess we better make the most of tonight.”
They both ignore the fact that the morning’s conversation still hangs between them.
Enjoying their dinner, hands locked together the entire time. Then laying in bed together, watching the game. When it’s over, they make love sweetly, slowly. Any concerns in their relationship are not evident. Only passion, warmth, and love are front and center.

Waking up at 2:00AM, Becca looks over at a sleeping Niall. Smiling, as her heart fills with emotion for him. Next her eyes land on his suitcase across the room. I can’t, I can’t do it. I just can’t say goodbye to him.
Getting quietly out of bed, she writes a quick note to Niall.
‘I’m sorry, Irish. I just can’t say goodbye to you. I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to let you go.
I’ll miss you.

As she drives away from the house, looking back in her rearview mirror, she tries to ignore the nagging feeling in the pit of her stomach.
