Roses & Wallflowers

Three.

I went through the day again without any problems, and I didn’t want to go to my 7th period. I did not want this day to be ruined because of that boy.

So when I walked into 7th, I sat where I sat yesterday so I wouldn’t cause any trouble.

And when I saw that boy walk in, I avoided eye contact with him and started to draw on a small piece of paper in my binder. But when he walked past me, he purposely knocked my books off of my desk.

“Oh I’m sorry let me get those for you doll.” He bent down to get my books, but when he picked them up he threw them across the room and started to laugh, causing everyone else around us to laugh.

“You’re so immature.” I muttered.

He grabbed my arm and said, “What was that doll?”

“I didn’t say anything.”

“I believe you did. Now if you’re going to say something, say it loud enough to where everyone can hear you.”

“I’d rather not. Besides, why are you talking to me? Wouldn’t it ruin your reputation? I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t want that happening, right?”

He gave me a sneer and let go of my arm, so I went and picked my books up.

“Did anyone do their homework last night?” The teacher asked when the bell rang.

Only ten of us out of twenty raised our hands, including that boy.

“I’m surprised Harry. Would you like to read me your story?” The teacher said and I scoffed at his name. That is an awful name.

I looked back at him and raised my eyebrows. He cleared his throat and began to read from his paper. “Reflections. They are only a part of what you really are. But some of them are a part of what you were. In my reflection, I only see you. The woman who broke my heart, ever so tenderly. I wonder what happened in the first place. Why are you here? And why am I not there? Could this be real? Is it really a reflection?” He stopped and looked at the teacher. “That’s all I have really.”

“I’ll give you a B for trying.” We all raised our hands again and the teacher called on me. “Please read your heartbreak story.”

I pulled out my paper and I heard ‘Harry’ snickering in the back. Then I began to read. “I could’ve said I love you. But I didn’t. I could’ve slept with you. But I didn’t. I could’ve held you closer. But I didn’t. I could’ve loved you… But I didn’t. Do you know why? Because I asked you to say I love you. You said it but you didn’t mean it. You asked me to sleep with you. But I knew it was out of lust. You tried to hold me closer. But there was someone you held closer than me. I asked you to love me, and look where we are now. Distant, and apart. I could’ve stayed… But I didn’t.

“That was beautiful Haize. Well done. I’m giving you a 100.”

After school was over, I met Julian in the parking lot.

“Hello gorgeous.” He said and I quickly hid my face. “Why are you hiding from me?”

“Because you called me gorgeous.”

“Haven’t you ever been called gorgeous?” I shook my head. “Not even from your mother?” I shook my head again and his mouth dropped. “I am so sorry. But.. Shall we go new girl? I’m dying for this ice cream.”

We arrived a small ice cream parlor called ‘Cones and Bowls’. It was a weird name for an ice cream parlor, but this is where Julian wanted to go.

“What kind of ice cream do you want?” He asked when we got to the window.

“Um, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.”

“Oh that’s my favorite.” He looked to the ice cream man, “Two Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough’s please.” Then he got our ice cream and we sat down at a table.

“So I was thinking about what you said earlier new girl. About how your mom never called you gorgeous. What’s up with that? I mean, doesn’t every mother call her daughter gorgeous or beautiful or something?”

I sighed, “Not my mother.”

“Explain.”

“Well. My mother tells me almost everyday that she doesn’t care about me and that I was an accident.”

“Oh my gosh. Next time I hear you talking about this, I’m going to find out where you live and I’m going to take you away from her.”

I smiled and said, “I bet deep down she would miss me if I was gone.”

“Yeah. Who wouldn’t miss you?” He lifted his hand up and tucked a piece of hair behind my ear and I looked down, blushing.

He laughed and we started to eat our ice cream. When we were finished, he started to walk me home.

“So what would your mother say if you walked in your house right now and told her that you were with a boy?”

“She would probably say something like ‘Oh my gosh. You finally found someone that will actually like you’ or something like ‘You mean like a real boy?’”

“That is just sick, twisted, and downright awful. I don’t even know why I’m walking you home to her. She doesn’t deserve to keep you.”

“Thanks for your concern Julian. But my mother won’t let anyone take me away from her. Trust me, I’ve tried to run away from her one time, but she had the police escort me back home. And I got like a giant lecture.” When we stepped in front of my house, I stopped walking but he kept going.

“Oh. This is your house.” He looked down, embarrassed and slowly walked up to me.

“Thank you for the ice cream Julian. I had a fun time.” I smiled and he smiled back.

“No problem new girl. You deserve some respect, everyday.” I smiled again and he grabbed my hand in his, slowly kissing the top of it. “I’ll see you tomorrow gorgeous.” I blushed again and he winked at me and slowly walked away.

When I walked into my house, my mother was sitting in the kitchen, eating dinner.

“Where have you been young lady?”

“I was on a date.”

She set her fork down before looking at me. “You went on a date? And it’s your second day of school? Wait. You went on a date? With like, a real boy?” What did I tell you Julian?

“Yes mom. A real boy.”

She picked up her fork and laughed. “That’s great. You finally found someone that likes you. It’s about time.” I told you she would say that too.

I went up to my room and collapsed onto my bed. I don’t even know what to think of today. It was great. There are no other words to describe it. It was great.
