Roses & Wallflowers

Twenty Seven.

“What should I wear? My God. What am I going to wear?” Luke scrambled around in her room, practically jumping everywhere. She’s going on a date with Nate tonight.

“Luke,” I said, and she looked at me. “Wear what you want. He doesn’t like you for what you wear. Okay? Just wear what you want.”

She nodded her head and smiled. “What are you wearing on your date tonight?”

“Um, clothes.” I said and she crossed her arms. “I don’t need to wear anything special. And it’s not a date. We’re just getting to know each other.”

She winked a few times, “Right. Just getting to know each other.”

I rolled my eyes and walked to my bedroom, putting on some skinny jeans and my Vans, and Luke let me borrow a cute gray top.

“And I’m going out for this dinner right now.” I stated and she laughed.

When I walked outside, it was warmer than I thought and I enjoyed the breeze that was blowing against my skin.

Jax told me to meet him at the town hall, and once I reached the hall, he was standing there waiting for me.

“Well it took you long enough.” He said walking up to me.

“Don’t you even. You said be here at 8, and it’s 7:30.” I crossed my arms and he put his hand on my back, leading me to his… Motorcycle?

“Well?” He handed me a helmet. “Get on.”

“You expect me to get on that death trap?” I shook my head and pushed away the helmet, taking a step back.

“My God. What is it with you girls and motorcycles? I am a professional at driving these things. We won’t wreck. Now get on the bike.”

I groaned and slipped the helmet on, letting him get on the motorcycle before me. When I sat down, I immediately wrapped my arms around him and he chuckled.

He then started the motorcycle and I closed my eyes when he took off.

“We’re here.” He said, peeling my arms off of him.

I stepped off of the bike and slipped the helmet off, embarrassed of my hair.

“Oh Lord. You’re a mess.” He slipped his helmet off and put his hand on my hair, pushing it down. “Now let’s go inside.”

When we walked inside the crowded restaurant, he made me sit down at the first table we saw and handed me a menu.

“What’s with you jerking me around?” I asked when the waiter brought us our drinks.

“Do you know how impossible it is to get a seat around here?” He took a drink of his coke and shook his head. Then he pulled a flask out of his jacket and poured some of the substance in the coke.

“My God. You can’t go a single day without that flask can you?” I asked and he chuckled.

“You think I’m an alcoholic don’t you? Well I’m not.” He took a swig from the flask before putting it back in his jacket.

“Oh really? Tell me something else about yourself.” Our food was given to us and he laughed again.

“There’s nothing to tell,” I raised my eyebrows at him and he sighed. “I’m Jax and I don’t like people.”

“That’s not new. I’ve heard it before.” He shook his head and smiled.

“Fine. The only other important thing you need to know about me is that I’m in a gang. That’s it. I’m not telling you anything else about myself.”

“What kind of gang?” I asked and he glared at me.

“What part of ‘I’m not telling you anything else’ do you not understand?” Then I returned the glare and he dropped his fork. “Fine. My gang likes to go around in random street corners and smoke illegal drugs. Sometimes we’re lucky if a girl comes around and we like to take her places. We took one just a few months ago but our leader let her go for some apparent reason.”

“Who’s your leader?” I asked and he laughed.

“Well for starter’s, my leader is in jail.” I widened my eyes and he nodded his head. “Yeah, one of our member’s got murdered at our school and apparently he was blamed for it. And he didn’t even do it. I watched the whole thing.”

Oh dear Lord. Help me.

“I did too.” I muttered and he leaned forward a bit.

“Beg your pardon?” He raised his eyebrows.

“I watched the whole thing too. In fact, it’s kind of my fault that Mason is dead. If I wouldn’t have told him about Julian then it wouldn't have happened. And Harry is in jail because he stood up for me.” When I looked at him he smiled.

“Is this a joke?” He ran a hand over his mouth when I shook my head. “So your lover that isn’t here is Harry..?” I nodded my head and he threw his hands up. “Well it’s good thing this isn’t a date because if it was I’d be dead right now.”

“He wouldn’t kill you.” I shook my head and smiled.

“Yeah, well you don’t know Harry like I do.” He placed his flask on the table and dared me to drink it. “Now it’s story time.”
