Welcomed Into The Darkness

Rose's POV
Waking up in the morning, I loathe the actions I did the night before. I don't want to be labeled as a killer, but what choice do I have after I agreed to join the gang. I look over at my phone and there are various missed calls and texts from Luke. I look through them and they are anything but pleasant. I take the risk and call him back, which he answers to after the first ring
"It fucking took you long enough" he growls into the phone.
"I was sleeping" I grumble
"I called you like fifty times" he says, which I doubt was an understatement.
"I'm sorry. I had a long night and you know it." I say "You didn't make it better either" I add
"Well sorry that I care about my girlfriend and didn't want something bad to happen, which may I remind you, almost occurred. That guy could've raped you over that stupid plan" he says
"I know, but-" I try to make up some lame excuse but he doesn't allow me to
"I warned you what could happen and you completely ignored me" he says
"I did what I was supposed to do" I try to reason
"And I respect that, but I also gave you an order" he says
"You're treating me like I am some child. I said this before, Luke, I can take care of myself. I proved that last night, so what's the big deal?" i snap
"The big deal is that I fucking love you and you could've been killed last night. Do you know how hard it was for me to just hear that sick bastard talk to you like that?" he snaps right back
"What makes you think you love me?" I ask, ignoring the question he asked me
"I know because every other girl I've been with has never made me feel the way you make me feel. I don't give a shit that we barely started dating, I know how I feel" he says, and the seriousness in his tone makes me believe him, but I stay silent, not knowing my feelings just yet.
"Now would be a great time to speak up before I think you hate me" he chuckles
"I don't know, Luke. I do like you, a lot, but I don't want to use that word until I'm completely sure" I say, my voice shaky
"Alright, Ashton wants you guys over here. Hurry" he says before hanging up the phone quickly.
I felt bad that I made him mad right now, but I couldn't just say that I loved him and not meant it. With a sigh, I get up from bed and make my way to the kitchen, where Lilac is already having coffee.
"Hey, Ashton wants us to meet them soon" she tells me
"Yeah, I just got off the phone with Luke" I say, pouring myself some coffee into a to-go cup.
"Look, I know you aren't a big fan of this whole violent side that you showcased last night but it can come in handy" she says
"I know, but I don't want to be used like some toy in this gang. I want respect too" I point out.
"Which is what you got last night on that mission" she argues
"Whatever, I'm going to go change and than we could go" I tell her before disappearing back into my room. I quickly get ready before looking at myself in the mirror and smiling at how my appearance is today.
"Rose hurry up! Ashton will be mad if we don't get there quick" I hear Lilac call for me and I roll my eyes before grabbing my bag and leaving the comfort of my room once again, this time not knowing what I will get myself into.

Upon getting to our destination, I see Michael walking ahead of us, making me smile since I miss talking to someone who is somewhat sane for once.
"Michael!" I call, making him turn to see Lilac and I. I let my sister know that she can find Ashton since I am going to walk with Michael before jogging to catch up with him.
"Hey" I greet
"I thought you would've hated me" he half smiles, trying to make it seem like he isn't angry with himself
"Why would I hate you?" I ask, my eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
"Luke mentioned that he told you that I made up the plan" he says "I'm not denying that I didn't but I wish I hadn't. You could've gotten hurt" he says, hurt in his eyes
"Is Michael Clifford soft?" I joke "Anyways, yeah I was shocked that you got me into the situation but I couldn't be mad at someone that has always tried to protect me" I add, making him smile
"Yeah, well I guess I just wanted you to realize that this gang shit isn't some joke." he says
"I know it isn't" I say
"From what I saw last night, I can tell you're serious" he says and my face falls from the mention of yesterday
"I am" I say softly
"Hey, it's nothing to be ashamed about" he reminds me as we find the others, including Luke who refuses to make any eye contact with me as if his life depended on it.
"Rose!" Ashton calls
"Ashton!" I imitate
"Cute" he remarks "So, how did you like last night?" he asks with a smirk
"Like? You think I enjoyed seeing the fear in that man's eyes? The way that his face went white when he saw that I could've murdered him without even having a reason to do so?" I ask, my voice dripping with venom as I do so
"You did have a reason. You just didn't know it" he shrugs
"Than, please, enlighten me on my unknown reason to murder that sick man" I demand
"You watch your tone with me" He growls, but Lilac holds his arm so he couldn't take a step towards me
"Ashton, I swear if you hurt her, we're done" she threatens him, which made his hands unclench and his posture become less stiff
"The reason he was to be murdered is because he threatened to do some serious damage to one of our new members. It was him or one of you, Rose. If he didn't die last night, either you or Lilac would've taken his place" he spat "You should be thanking me for saving your life" he adds
"Thank you?" I say as if he he uttered some sick joke "I would rather be dead than walk around knowing I am some fucking murderer" I say
"That's enough, Rose!" Luke roars "When you joined this gang, you agreed to do whatever Ashton and I tell you, which includes killing, which you should've known already. This is not the time or place to be whining about your childish problems because we are not about to listen to your rants when we have more important problems to discuss. You did you own self a favor so be thankful" he went on, making my teeth clench and rage run through me
"Screw you, Hemmings" I say before turning around and holding up a particular finger as I leave them all staring at me as I leave, hoping Luke got the message that he blew it already.
I get a few blocks away from them when I hear someone calling my name.
"Rose!" I turn to see that it was Michael, which made me feel better knowing that it was him and not Luke.
"What was that all about back there?" He asks, pointing his thumb behind him
"I don't want to talk about" I mumble
"You can trust me" he says
"I've heard that one before" I say
"Does this have anything to do with you and Luke having a thing?" he asks, making my head shoot up to look at him
"H-how did you know about that?" I ask him
"It's obvious. Well for me at least. The other guys might not be as fast as me, so don't worry about them. Plus I saw the way you looked at him when you agreed that night" he explains
"Oh" was all I could find myself to say.
"Do you need someone to talk to?" he asks, and for once, I believed someone cared in a really long time.
"That sounds nice" I nod, making him smile.

Notes
