THE DEATH OF ME

The Speed Of Light

For a racer, Harry drives like a maniac. Making me squeeze my eyes shut the whole way, leaning my forehead to his back and clenching even tighter to him, pushing my thighs against him too, trying my best not to fall off. I am sure he can feel every part of my chest on his back, not to mention my thighs around him, which makes me blush only thinking about it.
When we finally stop and Harry kills off the engine, a sigh of relief escapes my lips and Harry chuckles.

I feel his fingers on mine, peeling softly my hands away from his waist, setting himself free so he could get off his bike.
I for one can't move. My legs are shaking and my hands are trembling. With a pleased look on his face, Harry scoots over and takes the helmet off my head, putting it aside. Then, without what seems as any effort at all, he reaches out and secures his hands under my arms lifting me up from the bike and on to my feet in front of him. He doesn't let go just yet, making sure I am able to stand on my own.

"You are mad," I breathe, looking up at him in dismay.
"Don't tell me that wasn't fun!" Harry scoffs.
"No! That wasn't!" I take a step back, finally trusting my feet to move, while pulling away from his touch.

"Come on Cassie, when was the last time you had any thrill in your life? Did something dangerous that took your breath away?" He interrogates me while furrowing his brows at me.

"What is it to you?! Why do you care?? Why did you even come to my school in the first place?! WE don't know each other! I am a complete stranger to you!!" I exclaim not able to keep my frustration with him to myself any longer. This was completely maddening and I scold myself mentally for getting on to the back of his bike in the first place.

"I now.. But this is how you get to know people.. Hanging out with them.. Spending time together," He explains patiently, though I can somehow tell by the tone of his voice that he is agitated with my question..

"Why? Why me?" I stare at him with question. I am directionless to why out of all the girls out there the famous racer picked me.

"You don't do this often do you?" He grins at me, once again making his dimples pop out, and for a moment I need to remind myself what he asked of me.
"I- I- um… No.. I don't get on strangers bikes often, no," I cross my arms over my chest as I attempt to keep my cheeks from blushing again.

"No, I meant you don't socialize do you? How many friends do you have? other then Perrie and Liam?" he is smirking at me and I think of turning and walking away. I look around to check my options. That is when I notice where we are. Harry brought us to a dirt road. There is an old shack on the side with a few cars parked in front. I can hear faint music coming from within, which makes me ponder what might it be. I note we are not that far, being on the outskirts of town, telling myself that if I decide to, I can walk back anytime.

"What is this place?" I question, looking back at him.
This time he didn't ignore my asking.
"This is where the real fun happens," He grins widely, extending his hand to the landscape as if showing it off.

Just then I hear a slam and out of the shack walks a bloke with dark hair and olive skin. At first I am sure it is Ben, but this lad is slightly shorter and leaner than him.
"Ha! Zayn! Just the man I wanted to see," Harry's eyes are a light green when he notices this Zayn, and a smile plays on his lips when he strides over to bump fists and tap on the back of his friend.

"It is ready for you, I just finished managing the changes you asked for," Zayn says, his eyes leaving Harry's and finally meeting mine.

"Hello," He speaks looking from me to Harry, as in asking Harry mentally who the hell am I.
"She's good bro, this is Cassie, Cass, meet Zayn, he is the car whisperer," He slings his arm over Zayns shoulders as he does the introduction. Zayn steps over to shake my hand, keeping quiet. I can tell he is not too happy with me being here, but he doesn't say a word. I feel him eying my school uniform, and I can't help but feel self conscious of it being baggie on my skinny body.

"So where is it?" Harry breaks the silence turning his attention back to Zayn.
"In the back, come on," He moves, forgetting about the unwanted guest. I stay in place watching them both walk away leaving me behind. I make up my mind to start walking back into town when Harry's head turns towards me.

"Cassandra? What are you standing there for? Come on," He calls out to me. I shuffle my feet after them, the urge of finding out what is making Harry so excited bigger then walking back home.

We walk around the shack and a black race car comes into view.
"Isn't she just beautiful?" Harry says in such a loving tone. I know of boys and their cars, but this- this is a whole new level of admiration.
I watch as Zayn and Harry get in, Zayn explaining to Harry about the changes he has made, and showing him the different things.

I sit down on a stool that I found standing against the shakes wall, watching the guys as they played around with their toy.
"Ready for a test ride?" Zayn asks getting out.
"Sure thing, Come on Cass," Harry raves me over. I don't miss the disapproving look Zayn sends me, but I jump of the stool walking over nonetheless.
"Are you ready for some more fun?" Harry shows off his dimples, making my heart do something weird it has never done before.
"Your driving is anything but fun," I mutter, making Zayn snort.

Harry rolls his eyes handing me another helmet. This time I take it and pull it over my head, though I am struggling with the strap, making Harry move closer to strap it.
He then opens the door for me, once I am seated he leans in pulling the seatbelt over and clicking it closed.

Harry walks around the car and sits behind the wheel.
He shuts his door and the engine roars to life.
"Cassie, whatever happens- keep your eyes open," He orders me in a voice I bet never heard the word no, while clicking his seatbelt.

I cannot explain the rush running through me once Harry started driving. It was like flying, but in a car, the visions outside my window blurring past in shades of yellow and brown. I feel light and free like never before, wishing this feeling will never end.

When we finally stop back by the shack, Zayn was nowhere to be seen.
"That was unbelievable," I gush freeing myself from the seatbelt, as Harry took off his helmet shaking his curls out.
"Told you it will be fun," He smirks at me.
"Again! Let's do it again!" I jump in my seat like a two year old, making Harry chuckle. I liked the sound of his laugh, making me smile back at him.
"Ha, a smile! If I knew this will bring it out of you I would have brought you out here sooner,"
I take off the helmet and step out of the car, pulling down my skirt.
I then turn to Harry unsure of what is next.

"Why are you so nervous?" He questions crinkling his forehead.
"I am not," I blurt even though I am, the high of the ride fading bringing me back to the reality of being me.
"Yes you are, you are playing with the ends of your hair," He reaches out to pull my fingers away. I let them fall to my sides, noticing for the first time that he is right, I do play with my ends when I am nervous.

"So how was it?" Zayn appears a smile on his lips.
"It was just brilliant! Thanks mate!" Harry high fives him.
"You will kick Ben's ass to Neverland on Saturday," Zayn promises.
"Sure will, thanks to you… I should get Cassie back home before her granny will start worrying where she is," Harry nods his head towards me. The disapproving look is back in Zayn's eyes, though he keeps quiet.

Harry walks me back to his bike in silence and I can't help but question Zayn's dislike of me.
When Harry reaches my house, he stops the bike, but this time he doesn't get up to help me off. I struggle to swing my short legs over the bike, holding on to his shoulder as I do.
"Spit it out Cass," He says when I hand over the helmet, making me blush again. I hate it that he is able to make me feel this way, and I frown at him.
"What?" I snap.

"You're dying to ask me something, I can feel it," He says blatantly.
"Well, I want to know why the officers were after you the other day," I question, even though that was not what I was going to ask him.
"I stole a danish out of his hand," He shrugs.
"Did you really?" I raise my brows amazed.
"Yeah, you thought I have done something illegal or something didn't you?" He says taunts me.
"Stealing a danish out of an officer's hand is illegal!" I point out.
"Na.. He was cool with it, took a photo with me, and a signature for his son," Harry laughed at my shocked face.

I have nothing to say to that, so I turn on my heels making my way up to the house.
"See you Cassandra," He calls out starting the engine. I turn to watch him drive away, the cloud of smoke dissolving behind.

I rush up the stairs and enter the house, remembering for the first time today that I never told my Nan that I will be home later than usual.
I walk around the house finding it to be empty. I wonder where Nan went to, as I pace to the fridge. I find a plate of food that Nana has left for me and stick it in the microwave. When I turn to the counter I see the note, with Nan's pretty handwriting on it, telling me she is sorry she isn't home to greet me, but she had to rush to her sister who felt ill today. She has left me food and will be home later this evening.

It's a shame about Nan's sister, though I am relived she wasn't home to ask where I have been, not wanting to lie to her.

I eat in front of the computer, googling Harry to learn more about this young man who entered my life unannounced.
There are multiple photos of him with different girls at different gatherings and I cringe at how gorgeous each of them is.
I click on some articles written about his wins and medals, when one head line catches my eye.

'21 year old racer involved in illegal racing, drugs, sex scandals, and reckless driving.'
My heart sinks while reading the article. I move on to some other articles about Harry and anger management, about him getting into fights and I realize that if I continue to spend time with Him, I can get sucked into this shit load of trouble, especially with him being 21 and me being underage. Though the thought of this wild life style has its level of appeal, and my little encounter with him today left me striving for more.
