THE DEATH OF ME

Confusions

In the morning I am running late, so I text Liam telling him to walk on without me, and I will meet him for launch.
I rush out of the house my tie in my hand, and my shoelaces undone as I sprint towards school.

When I finally arrive, it is just in time for first period and I rush to the classroom.
I enter with the teacher and she waits for me as I move swiftly to my seat. The class is awfully quiet and when I look around I find some of the students staring at me. I frown while trying to understand what is wrong, looking back at my desk, not used to being noticed.

"Miss Price," The teacher calls and I look up at her.
"Please, your tie, you should be presentable, the tie is part of the school's uniform for a reason," She finishes and I grab my tie and put it on while feeling the blush rise at my cheeks. This must be the reason I was stared at.

After class I meet Liam and we sit at our usual table outside. The weather is starting to cool but not enough to prevent us from spending our free time outdoors.
"So.. Harry Styles… How do you know him?" He asks when I finally take a bite from my food.
"Remember I told you about a twit knocking me down?" I say, covering my full mouth with my hand, if Nan would to see me now she would have a cow.

"Are you bloody kidding me? Harry Styles knocked you to the ground?" His eyes go wide while a smile plays on his face. He then chuckled when I nod to confirm it.
"But I thought he ran away when the officers came along," Liam said taking a bite from his food.
"He did," I reply.
"So how did he know to find you here then?"

I tell him about the name tag, and I tell him about yesterday in the racing car, and about the maniac way Harry drives his motorbike. Liam drinks in every word that tumbles out of my mouth, leaning closer to hear me better.
"That is unbelievable," He gushes once I am done, "So are you going to see him again? Is he coming to pick you up?"
"I have no clue.. He didn't say anything," I shrug and take another bite.
"You have to take me next time you both hang out!" Liam begs me.
"I don't know if it's a good idea for me to hang out with him," I sigh, putting down my food.
"Why not?" Liam raises his brows, "You just said it was loads of fun!"
"But he is much older, and he is trouble!" I answer, my hands jumping to play with the tips of my hair. When I realize what I am doing I order them down, sitting on them instead. I must stop with that habit.

"First.. It's not as if you two are dating.. You're just chilling.. And second you can't believe everything you read.. and even if it is true.. who cares? He is famous! He's allowed to act foolish," Liam taps the table as if case closed and I will be hanging out with Mr. Racer from now on.

"I don't think he even wants to chill… He just left without saying anything yesterday," I sound miserable which is not my intention.
"You know where he hangs out right? Go look for him!" Liam exclaims.
"No way! I am not going back there! His friend hates me," I look at Liam as if he is crazy.

"Oi Cassie!"
My name is called before Liam has a chance to answer that, and we both look up in surprise to see who it might be. For just a moment I thought maybe it might be Harry, my heart jumping, but then I find the person the voice belongs to and calm. It is only Luke.
Liam and I exchange looks, wondering what's the reason for Luke to talk to me, I didn't even think he knows who I am, not to mention my name.

"I can't help but remember seeing you get on the back of Harry Styles' bike yesterday," He is at our table, a few of his friends standing next to him, waiting for my reply.
"I.. um… ah…" I glance at Liam, not sure what to say to these boys. They have never giving me the time of day, and now they are all around my launch table demanding answers.
"So what if she did?" Liam turns his head to him, and I mentally thank him for answering instead of me.

"So, I want to know how she knows Harry!" Luke flashes a smile that doesn't reach his eyes.
"Her and Harry go way back," Liam says, and I need to collect myself and my jaw that fell on to the table hearing Liam's lie.
"How is it he only now showed up here then?" Luke pushes.
"Because.. what is it to you anyway? It's not like you are friends with Cassie to know who she hangs out with," Liam says angrily.

"Wow mate! Calm down.. I was just asking," Luke holds his hands up and takes a step back.
These boys would have never come to speak to us if it wasn't for Harry. I watch them turn and go back to their table. The people waiting there for them crowding them once they reach back, probably wanting to know my answer.

"Thanks," I mutter to Liam.
"No problem.. Though you should know.. They will keep coming for answers if you keep hanging with Harry," Liam says.

I know he is right, since throughout the remaining of the school day I had people come up and ask me about Harry. I was able to shrug them off, keeping quiet. I don't even know what to answer them. I don't know if this was a onetime thing or not, I don't think Harry and I are friends know or anything, so I keep quiet.

When the end of the school day comes around I am relieved, growing tired of the questions and whispering around me.

When I walk out of the building with Liam, I can't help but look around for Harry. Maybe he has come by again? I look for a crowd, maybe he is here, a bunch of people smothering him already, but the car park is as usual and I feel a slight disappointment.
"Are you working today?" Liam asked and I nod, remembering my shift and heightening my pace so I won't be late, I don't want to give Daniel another reason to scold me.

I come to a stop right outside the coffee shop's door to catch my breath before I enter.
When I am breathing almost normally I go in, brushing back the strand of hair that fell to my face.

"There you are! I don't appreciate it when friends of yours come in here to hang out with you!" Daniel is in my face as I walk across the floor to the counter, stuffing my bag underneath, than standing straight finally looking at him.

"What are you talking about?" I question narrowing my eyes. I don't have friends, other than Liam, and he was at school with me.

"Someone came in before looking for you! With tattoos on his arm and stuff! I didn't even know you have such friends! His looks bothered my costumers!" Daniel barked at me.
My heart flips! Harry was here? Did he come looking for me? Really? He is the only person with a tat that I know so it must be him!

"What are you standing there looking at me? Get to work!" He hisses walking away.
I roll my eyes pinning my name tag, and pulling my hair back.
"Don't pay him any attention," Perrie is standing in front of the counter pulling a face at Daniel's back as he walks out of the shop.

"Was Harry really here?" I ask her in a hopeful tone.
"Sure was," She winks at me walking away with a table's order.

My whole shift I kept sending the front entrance glances with the hope Harry might come back. This whole situation is just mad- I mean I have only spent a short time with him- and he is 21 for god's sack, why would he come looking for me. He probably just came in to get a coffee or something and asked if I am working just to be nice and say hi, that is all.
When my shift is over I retrieve my bag from under the counter and sling it over my shoulder. I say goodbye to Perrie and step out.

I look sideways just to make sure he isn't there. I scold myself for even looking for him. How ridicules can I be? Of course he isn't here!
I take out my ear buds and listen to my music as I walk home.

When I step into the house my Nana is in the living room watching the telly.
"How was your day sweetheart?" She smiles, when I peek in to say hello.
"It was just fine," I say, before turning to run up to my room.
"Did you eat love? Should I fix something up for you?" She calls after me.
"No! I ate at work, its fine really! I'm going to get some school work done before bed Nan," I call down to her.

I close the door and sit down at my desk pulling out my school books. I haven't touched my homework yesterday and I already had work piling up so I was desperate to get some out of the way.

I was in the middle of math problems when my phone started ringing which startled me.
My phone barely ever rings. No one calls me except Liam and Nan, and since Nan is down stairs in front of the telly it must be Liam.
I reach out for my phone, and when I look at the screen I am surprised to see it's an unknown number.

I think twice before answering but then decide I should, just to find out who it is, even if most likely it's a wrong number.

"Hello?" I speak into the phone.
"I thought I asked you not to walk alone at night," I hear the raspy voice. I can't help but smile to myself even though I know I shouldn't get excited over this.
"How do you have my number?" I question instead of answering him.
"Are you answering me with a question?" I am not sure if he is upset or not.
"My boss wasn't too happy about you asking about me today," I say instead. He never answers my questions, so why must I answer his?

"I don't give a fuck about him! You should not be walking by yourself," Harry raises his voice. I am taken aback by his tone. Why would he care? We don't know each other, I don't need to listen to him.

"Who gave you my number?" I don't give in.
"Come outside!" He demands then. I move to my window and peek out. I see him standing outside looking up at me.

"No, I am doing homework," I reply simply. I want to go out and meet him more than anything, but something inside me pushes me to say no, a feeling that tells me he is not used to hear that answer, making me want to refuse him just to see his reaction.

"Cassandra! If you don't come out here to talk to me I will come in and up to you!" He hisses. That makes me stop and think. I don't want him to come in- I don't need Nan asking questions. I watch as he takes a step closer to the front steps going up to my house which makes me speak fast.

"All right! I'm coming! Don't come in," my words race out.
I watch as he ends the call, and I leave the window to go down and meet him.
