Summer Nights Romance.

Chapter II.

Once Collins woke up, rather disoriented from her nap, she changed out of her gross airplane clothes and put on high waisted shorts and a white crop top. She bumped her way along the staircase and found herself in between the living area and kitchen.

“There you are!” Evelyn smiled widely. She had long blonde hair and deep blue eyes framed with high cheekbones. “Tonight there’s a huge party across the street, you coming?”

“Uh, probably not,” Collins shook her head, taking a seat at the kitchen counter and putting her feet in the one opposite her.

“Collins! You awake? Hey, wanna help us out across the street?” it was Liam and he was heading out the front door.

“Uh, yeah… why not?” Collins pushed herself away from the counter as the sorority girls bustled around looking for something. The sun was setting by this time and the house across the street appeared to be similar to her sister’s sorority house but it appeared to be more disheveled. The brother frat house did not have a trimmed lawn or perfect in line shutters, but instead a broken window and a screen door that didn’t hug the frame properly.

“Here come on… I’ll show you around,” Liam offered, his kind eyes twinkling again.

“Liam! We need you!” Devin suddenly cried form the kitchen. “The tent, it’s a mess, help us!”

“Oh shit, yeah… make yourself comfortable Collins, coming Devin!” and with that Liam was off.

Louis and Calum were in the living room along with a group of strangers. Liam still was in the back though and Louis’ eyes fell on her. A devilish smile fell on his lips and his eyes gave a glint.

“What are you doing here?” Louis stood dangerously close to her and other boys’ eyes fell on her. “The party doesn’t start til later, someone’s eager.” He tucked a lock of her thick dirty blonde hair behind her ear.

“Try again,” Collins scoffed, pushing him away from her. “Liam brought me over to save me from the girls.” Louis laughed.

“Who’s this?” a boy approached, he had black hair and tattoos decorating his arms.

“This is Collins,” Louis wiggled his eyebrows. “Collins meet Zayn.”

“Hi Zayn,” Collins stood, leaving Louis on the couch. Collins walked away, towards the kitchen to find Liam but ran into some blonde boy instead.

“Sorry babe,” he said quickly. “Didn’t see you,” he took her upper arms and held them, quickly letting go when he realized he was lingering. “Uh, are you a new around here?”

“Uh, yeah I am.”

“Figured, you look it… be careful though someone like you is gonna be eaten alive if you stay here too long…”

“Eaten alive?” Collins shot. “I can care for myself, thanks though,” she said all too defiantly.

“Oh, Niall. I see you’ve met Collins, you know… Devin’s younger better half,” Liam now appeared and half hugged Collins.

“So not a wannabe sorority girl?” the boy, Niall, clarified.

“No,” Collins spat disgusted.

“Don’t make it sound like such a bad thing!” Devin sounded from the kitchen down the hall.

“Trying to!” Collins retorted. The blonde boy laughed and so did a few others within the house.

“Come on Collins, let’s go to the backyard and set up,” Liam led her to the back. Devin followed.

***

The fraternity house was decorated for a themed party to do with Hawaii or the beach or something like that. There was fake sand on the patio and festive lights and of course, festive drinks with umbrellas.

Collins looked around the yard and turned around to retreat inside for a break when she ran into somebody.

“You should really stop running into people,” the blonde from earlier laughed.

“Shit… sorry,” Collins sighed. She bit her lip to hold back a smile as his blue eyes twinkled.

“Sorry if I was a dick earlier,” he scratched the back of his neck.

“No, it’s cool,” Collins waved the thought away.

“Collins! Hey,” Calum winked. “You are coming tonight, right?”

“Uh, yeah no probably not…” Collins shook her head.

“Wait but you helped us set up, you have to come,” he said, looking almost annoyed.

“Uh, frat parties are dumb. It’s the same shit every time,” Collins countered.

“Exactly, it’s heaven. Live life, little Devin,” Calum encouraged.

“Don’t call me ‘little Devin’,” Collins ordered, a dangerous sparkle in the green of her eye.

“Oh,” Calum laughed, raising his hands in innocence.

“Okay, I’m gonna go now…” Collins pushed her way through the house.

“Hey, are you Devin’s sister?” a sudden voice asked.

“Yeah I am,” Collins said, whipping around defensively, thoroughly annoyed by this reputation.

“It’s nice to finally meet you… Luke,” he offered his hand.

The boy had brilliant eyes and messy light blonde hair that was spiked. He could be a model with his looks, but he didn’t look like he cared enough to.

“Collins,” she held out her hand and could almost feel a blush coming on, but she cursed herself and let go of his hand. “Well I should be going…”

“Leaving before the party even starts? What an impression,” Luke laughed.

“No it’s not that… I just… I don’t know these things are dumb,” Collins shrugged. Luke laughed awkwardly. “I didn’t mean that, I’m just… I’m sorry.”

“No, you’re cool. Well it’s your first night here, what are you gonna do?” Luke asked.

“I was just gonna roam around,” Collins shrugged, Luke’s eyes never leaving her.

“That’s no fun. You’ll get stuck at some shit hole with moldy food and bad entertainment. I’m gonna come with you. Just let me run upstairs and get something,” Luke ran up the stairs.

“Where are you going?” Louis asked.

“Out,” Collins exhaled.

“But you’ll miss all the fun…”

“Plan on it.”

“Will you be back later? I’m looking for someone to have fun with tonight and I’m bored with desperate freshman… you seem like you could be fun,” Louis allowed his hand to graze her waist and he ran his fingers down to her hip where she slapped it away.

“I’m sorry, excuse me?” Collins spat.

“Come on. Do you feel that?”

“Fell what?”

“The sexual tension… and we’ve only known each other for a few hours,” Louis was slowly backing her up to the wall when suddenly Collins saw Luke towering at the top of the stairs.

“Excuse me, Louis… We’re going to be leaving now,” Luke said seriously, descending the staircase.

“Luke? Oh, how cute…” Louis looked at Collins as he said it though. “You can’t go anywhere though tonight Luke.” Louis pushed himself off the wall and turned around to stare down Luke.

“Actually yes I am. I’m not a freshman anymore Louis.”

“But you have to listen to the elders,” Louis demanded.

“Not really Louis, now if you’ll excuse us,” Luke beckoned and walked away with Collins leading through the front door.

ASHTON’S P.O.V.

The day was uneventful and so far Ashton had slept through most of it. He was beckoned multiple times to help set the backyard up for the annual end of semester party, but he didn’t think decorations were necessary. He could drink, smoke, and fuck without dumb lights and imported sand. He finally rolled out of bed at four in the afternoon, but camped out in his room banging away on his drums. Suddenly a loud knock came on his door, making him stop mid-drum.

“What?” he yelled.

“Hey,” it was Zayn. Ashton watched Zayn cross their room as he sat on his bed and scrolled through his phone.

“What’s up?” Ashton offered conversation.

“Nothing really, I was hanging with Louis but he became pissy…” Zayn shrugged.

“Why?”

“I don’t really know, he invited Devin’s sister to the party but she left with Luke,” Zayn said.

“Devin has a sister?”

“Guess so…”

“Never mentioned her,” Ashton commented.

“Yeah, because she hates you. I wouldn’t expect her to confide in you,” Zayn laughed.

“Point taken,” Ashton said nonchalantly.

The two of them stayed in their room until the night wiped the sun away and the sky was as dark as it would get. Ashton and Zayn wandered downstairs to see it bustling with teenagers drunkenly slurring their words and sloppily connecting mouths while sharing tongues.

“See anyone for the night?”

“Evelyn.” Ashton said quickly.

“What?” Zayn seemed taken aback.

“I feel lucky tonight,” Ashton took a quick few shots and found the tall blonde in the corner. She was never very warm and welcoming, but everyone knew she was beautiful. It was hard to get her in the bedroom, but challenges are always welcomed to Ashton. As he approached her leggy figure though he saw she was already gone in the world of intoxication and he advised himself against it. It would be wrong to take advantage of her.

The night continued on and he couldn’t have been more bored. The parties got old quick and it was always the same liquor, the same sluts, the same prudes… nothing intrigued him at these get togethers anymore. He needed a new year, he needed a new start. He found himself holding a beer, lazily lying by the pool in the back, watching everything and everyone unfold before his eyes. Suddenly he spotted Luke and smiled. Luke had been his high school best friend and he had been waiting for him all night.

“Luke, there you are buddy,” Ashton went up to his friend and patted his shoulder. Suddenly a girl appeared behind him with large messy dark blonde hair and brilliant green eyes. She was beautiful, but something about her looked familiar.

“Ashton, hey. How’s the party going?” Luke looked around.

“Not very good… who’s uh… your shadow?” Ashton eyed the girl. Luke took this as an opportunity to hold her closer.

“This is Collins, Devin’s sister.”

“Well shit,” Ashton allowed a devilish smile to play across his lips.

“Are you as studious and as much of a prude as your sister? Cause I hope not,” Ashton looked her up and down.

“Excuse me?” she said, her eyes fiery. She stepped in front of Luke, looking irritated.

“Ashton, back off,” Luke began to plead, but was ignored on both accounts.

“You’re already more feisty than Devin… so is that a no? Meaning you’re… easy?” Ashton whispered, stepping dangerously close to her.

“You wish,” she said softly in his ear before whipping him with her hair and storming off.

“Seriously Ashton?” Luke eyed Ashton before running after Collins.

Ashton just smiled, knowing he had just found his new start.
