Lonely Hearts Club
Numb
Sophie-Mae had fallen asleep on the large sofa still with the tv on, but the volume on low. All the lights were out apart from one art-deco lamp which was situated on a side cabinet next to the sofa.
But soon enough, she was snapped out of her deep sleep by loud knocking coming from the front door. The kncoking never ceased as she grumbled and trudged towards the door. ''Keep your hair on!'' She shouted before opening the door making sure the person on the other side could clearly hear her.
''Oh.'' Was all she could manage to say as their identity was revealed.
''Nice to see you too.'' He spoke in his deep, croaky voice.
''What are you doing here Harry?'' She asked bluntly.
He didn't want to tell her the real reason so he quickly thought of some feeble excuse. ''Your right.''
She shot him a confused look urging him to continue. ''I know seeing that happen to your brother must've been hard, and I don't want to be like this, but I still don't understand why you care so much.'' He said as he made himself comfortable on the sofa turning up the volume on the tv slightly.
''I was too young to be able to save my brother, I felt powerless. And I thought that maybe if I helped put you on the straight and narrow it might take some of the pain away.'' She joined him on the sofa. Sophie-Mae felt tears prick her eyes but just as she did Harry wrapped his long arms around her hushing her. Now she was the vunerbale one.
But after a few seconds something crossed her mind. ''You havn't been drinking.'' She whispered as she pulled away. ''Nope.'' He smirked popping the 'p'.
''Bu-- Y-- How, why?''
''Let's not worry about that right now.'' Harry mumbled sinking further into the fabric. Sophie-Mae decided not to push the subject any further after watching Harry's uneasiness around her.
''Erm do you want to watch a film?''
''Sure.''
''You choose.'' The conversation was awkward and blunt and gre even more awkward as Harry moved away to the large collection of dvd's piled next to the tv. ''This?'' He held up the case of '50 First Dates'.
''That's fine with me.'' She smiled.
****
''I don't know if I could do that.'' She said as his arm was draped over her shoulder and she snuggled into his side. ''Do what?''
''Have to start over again everyday, have no recolection of the day before. And have to fall in love all over again everyday.''
''He really loved her though.''
''Still...''
''Still what?''
''Sometimes love just isn't enough. Sometimes other things just get in the way.''
Their faces were inches apart, their breathing slow and controlled, soon turning to heavy panting.Soon their noses brushed against eachother, only for a milesecond. Then their lips, lingering for another second.
