Something Great

This can't be happening. Stevens shakes my hand and sends me on my way. Leaving his office I feel ashamed and confused. How could I be pregnant? I haven't been with anyone, that way, which would cause a baby, have I? In the elevator I take out my phone and call Maya. 2 rings in she quickly answers.

"What's up?"

"I'm."

"What?"

"I'm preg."

"Preg? What are you trying to say?"

"Baby?"

"Baby? Whose baby?"

"I'm pregnant Maya!" I scream at her through my phone.

"What? Pregnant? How? When? And you didn't tell me?"

"2 months." the doors open and I'm in the main lobby "And I'm sure you know how."

"Oh. Uh congratulations. Should I call off work? Do you need the car? I.."

"I can walk. Bye." hanging up on her I walk outside and sit on a bench. Why am I pregnant? Oh hell I can't remember shit. Was I assaulted and didn't even notice? Oh my god. Just then I get a text from Jake. 'Hey. You busy?' text'n him back I ask him to pick me up at the Starbucks a few blocks down the street. Walking there, my mind is racing. I think back to when I had that strange dream. With that one guy from somewhere. Taking out my phone I text Stacey. 'What was that concert you begged me to take you to?'

Walking up to Starbucks Jake is already there waiting. Stopping a few feet away from him, I wonder if I should tell him now or later. Stacey text back making me jump and Jake turn to see me.

"Hey what's up?" he says walking towards me.

"Uh not much. Just needed a ride." putting my phone in my pocket.

"So you busy today?"

"Nope. Just preoccupied with my thoughts."

"Like?" he says putting his arm around my shoulders.

"Nothing interesting. So what's the plan?"

"We haven't seen a movie in a while. Wanna watch the new Star Trek movie? I heard it's great." unlocking his car we get in.

"Yeah sounds fun." putting on my sunglasses I look out the window, hiding my tears. Getting to the theaters took some time. Traffic was crazy, as usual. This heat is really doing me in, I'm sweating like a pig even though the a/c is on. Then I feel it, the acid rising up from my stomach.

"Jake, pull over!" holding my hand to my mouth I try to keep the vomit from going all over the car.

"What?" looking at me in shock "Kia!" seeing me hold my mouth and pulling at the door handle he knows what I'm about to do.

Quickly pulling over he unlocks the door and I'm out in a second. Right by the side of the road, I spill my guts. Kicking gravel on it, I spit that awful taste out and wipe my mouth. Turning around I see Jake standing there with a bottle of water.

"Are you okay Kia? Are you getting car sick again? Man I bet it's this heat."

"No. It's worse." taking the water and drinking it empty. I'd better tell him now.

"What?" putting my hat on my head "Come on Kia I won't bite."

"We better get to the movie before it starts. I'll tell you when we get lunch." walking pass him I get in the car and close the door. I'm afraid of what he will say. Jake has been my closest friend since kindergarten. We tried dating freshman year in high school but it didn't work out. So we decided to remain friends and ever since then we have been each others shoulder to cry on. Through heartbreaks and backstabbing. Now for once in my life of knowing him, I'm afraid to tell him.

The movie was nice though my mind was somewhere else, I couldn't really pay attention to what was happening. Jake on the other hand, loved it. Of course. Now walking around the mall Jake won't stop talking about it. Seems he forgot what I was going to tell him. Good, because I don't think I can.

"Wait wasn't there something you were going to tell me?"
