My Favorite Date

Chapter Five

Liam had been talking to my sister for the last hour and I was growing worried. I had finished our dinner and walked into the living room to find Liam actually talking to Niall.

“Nialler!” I exclaimed as I handed Liam a plate of food.

“Mel!” Niall exclaimed and I grinned.

“How are you my friend?” I asked.

“Your boyfriend is awesome,” Niall said and I laughed.

Niall and I then laughed even harder when we heard Liam moan after taking a bite of my pasta dish.

“She’s an awesome cook huh?” Niall smirked, “Just wait until she starts baking. That means she wants to keep you and love you and hug you and kiss you.”

I just started laughing at Niall.

“We’ll have to do some baking when we all get to New York then,” I said winking at Niall.

“Well I’ll let you two have date night
,” Niall said, “We’ll talk about a pickup football game when we’re in New York.”

We nodded our heads and then hung up. I looked over at Liam who was smirking at me.

“Your sister and both Greg and Niall are really fun,” he said, “And I love your cooking.”

I just laughed and took a bite.

“They didn’t scare you away?” I asked.

“Not at all,” he said.

“Good,” I said as Liam flipped on the TV and we sat and watched the football game that was on.

Once we finished our plates and Liam had three helpings of the pasta, we were just watching mindless TV drinking some alcohol, me with a glass of wine and Liam with some beer. We were just talking about growing up and my head was in Liam’s lap when he said something that caught me off guard.

“You really are beautiful Mel,” he said running a hand through my hair, “That Louis guy was crazy to cheat on you. You’re one of the best girls I’ve ever met.”

“Really?” I asked and before he could answer he crashed his lips onto mine.

We soon switched positions and Liam had pulled me onto his lap. We were in a heavy make out sessions when I was snapped back into reality and I pulled away. Liam opened his eyes and I smiled lightly at him.

“You’re too drunk to drive home and we need some sleep,” I said playing off the thought in my head, “Come on.”

Liam just nodded his head a bit confused but I led him to my room and smiled lightly when I saw Ace curled up in my bed. I moved Ace to the foot of my bed and I helped Liam get undressed and tucked him in bed.

“Where are you going?” he asked confused, “We have to practice sleeping in the same bed Mel.”

“To change I’ll be right back love,” I replied and kissed his forehead and I watched him smile.
I grabbed my clothes and then went to change and walked back to crawl into bed with Liam.

When I walked out of the bathroom
, Liam was already asleep and I smiled lightly at the sight. I knew very little of Liam so I decided to snoop some. Liam knew everything about me in a matter of three days and I knew about him was the fact that we loved the same movies, TV shows, food, and a lot of the normal common things in common. What I didn’t know was much about his past. When we were talking about our childhoods it was me doing the talking not him. I was going to head into the living room to try googling Liam when he mumbled something in his sleep.

“She’s perfect Mum,” he mumbled, “Absolutely perfect.”

I turned to see Liam still sleeping and smiling lightly.

“Her name?” he asked, “Her name is Melanie.”

I then stood there frozen, Liam thought I was perfect. He was sleeping talking and saying he thought I was perfect. I then heard someone’s phone ringing so I went into the living room to find Liam’s phone ringing. I looked at the caller ID to find that the name flashing Big Sister Nicola and a picture of a girl with really short blonde hair. I was about to answer it when it went to voicemail. I was going to try and unlock Liam’s phone when I saw that she sent a text saying he needed to get home now because something bad happened. I immediately then sprang into action. I rushed to my bedroom and shook Liam until he was awake.

“Mel what’s wrong?” he asked sitting up more alert now.

“Get dressed,” I said grabbing a pair of jeans and a sweater, “You’re sister called and said something bad happened to your father.”

“You answered my phone?” I asked and I could hear the anger in his voice.

“No she sent a text after the phone went to voicemail,” I said, “Now come on.”

“You’re not coming with me,” Liam said, “I’m not okay with lying to my family.”

“Then we don’t have to,” I replied not letting this go, “We’re friends right?”

Liam didn’t reply so I turned around to find him staring at me.

“We’re not friends,” I said stopping what I was doing.

“Mel,” Liam started and I shook my head.

“Then you better get dressed and go find out what’s wrong with your dad Liam,” I said grabbing his clothes and throwing them at him, “I don’t care how much you don’t talk about your family but you need to go be with them.”

“But. . .” Liam started.

“Go Liam,” I said as he got his shirt on.

I rushed out of the bedroom and grabbed his cellphone and keys. I turned around to find him rushing out the door and looking at me with a torn expression on his face. I then walked up to Liam and made him look at me.

“Family are the only ones to never turn their backs on you,” I said, “No matter how shitty you treat them. Go.”

He then closed his eyes and then he looked up at me.

“Then I want you to come with me,” he said grabbing my hand, “You’ll calm me down if anything is horrible.”

“Okay,” I said throwing my hair up in a
messy braid, “Let’s go.”

“What about Ace?” he asked and I looked over at Ace who was trying to figure out what was wrong.

“He’ll be fine until morning. I’ll call Maggie to come pick him up.”

“Okay,” he said and we headed to Liam’s car.

The entire drive to wherever Liam was from was quiet. I kept looking over at Liam to make sure he was okay.

“I’m fine,” Liam said looking at me, “I’ll be fine.”

I nodded my head and we drove most of the night back to Wolverhampton. I must have fallen asleep because the next thing I remember, Liam was shaking me awake.

“Ready to meet my family love?” Liam asked and I smiled putting my hand on top of his.

“Let’s go,” I smiled lightly.

We then got out of the car and Liam led me to the front door. He knocked on the front door and an older woman who looked like she was in her forties answered the door. She stood there shocked for a minute and then pulled Liam into a tight hug and I could see tears running down her face.

“Nicola called saying something happened to Dad,” Liam said and his mother smiled lightly.

“She just wanted to see if you would come home for a family emergency,” his mother said and I smiled lightly, “I’m just so happy you came. We’ve missed you Liam.”

I could see Liam’s face change from one of anger to one of guilt in a matter of minutes. I didn’t know how long Liam had been away from home but you could tell it was a while since he had been back. I was going to head back to the car and give Liam and his family some space but his mom then turned to look at me and smiled at me.

“Oh how rude of me,” the woman said and her eyes sparkled and she grinned, “I’m Karen,
Liam’s mum.”

“Nice to meet you Mrs. Payne,” I said as she pulled me in for a hug, “I’m Liam’s friend Melanie Walters.”

I then looked out of the corner of my eyes to find Liam relax a little bit when I said friend. In a way it kind of hurt me but like I promised I wasn’t going to lie to Liam’s family. I didn’t know if he considered me a friend, but I sure did. Karen then smiled at me and grabbed my hand leading me into the house.

“Geoff! Nicola! Ruth! Look who came to visit!?” Karen exclaimed as we walked into what I assumed to be the living room to find the rest of Liam’s family sitting and watching something on the TV.

“Liam!” a girl with long blonde hair exclaimed and ran over to give Liam a tight hug, “I’ve missed you so much.”

“I’ve missed you too Ruth,” Liam said as he hugged his sister tightly, “I’ve missed you too.”

“And what about me?” the girl I assumed to be Nicola asked, “Am I chopped liver?”

“I tend to think so,” Liam teased and for the first time in three days I could see a genuine smile on Liam’s face.

Liam and his family were having a family reunion when Liam’s mom remembered me.

“Everyone this is Liam’s friend Melanie,” she said and I waved.

“Hi,” I said quietly and Liam smiled lightly at me and I was then passed around to hug Geoff, Liam’s dad, and then Ruth and Nicola, Liam’s older sisters.

“Are you sure you’re just a friend?” Nicola asked in a teasing voice but I could tell she was being serious about the question.

“We are just friends,” I said, “I only met Liam a few days ago actually.”

“Oh really,” Karen said, “Well we’ll let Liam and his dad catch up and talk lad stuff. Nicola, Ruth and I would love to get to know you.”

“Of course,” I said smiling lightly at them.

I saw Liam’s face turn from shock to panic and I just gave him a small reassuring smile.

“Mum why don’t we just catch up together,” Liam said, “Besides we can’t stay long. . .”

“Liam it’ll be fine,” I said looking at him, “I don’t have to work tomorrow and neither do you. We can stay as long as you like.”

Liam just gave me a glare and I just raised my eyebrows at him. I needed to learn more about Liam so I was going to stay here as long as I possibly could to get to know the Liam Payne that was going to be my date in two weeks.

“Fine,” Liam sighed and I saw Nicola, Ruth, and Karen all smirking, “Mum just don’t scare her away. She’s a good friend.”

“You worry too much Liam,” Ruth said rolling her eyes, “I think if she can handle your moody arse we won’t be able to scare her away.”

Liam just rolled his eyes as I dragged by Nicola into the kitchen to get to know each other with a bottle of wine.
