My Favorite Date

Chapter Four

The next morning I woke up still in my scrubs from yesterday so I just assumed I was really tired and fell asleep after I had gotten home from Mrs. Henderson’s. I rolled out of bed and decided to get ready before I actually made breakfast and called my mom. I showered and then threw on an outfit since I didn’t plan on doing much today just going and paying some bills and then maybe walk through the park with a cup of coffee. I did decided last night to take a small break from Liam. Even though we had been fake dating for three days, Liam knew more about me than any other man besides Louis and I was starting to believe that we were dating for real. I had walked into the kitchen to toast a bagel and make some coffee when my cell phone started ringing. I answered it without looking at the caller ID.

“Hello,” I said opening my fridge to get my bagel.

“Oh good you’re awake,” I heard Liam’s voice say, “Did you want to go get breakfast this morning?”

“Actually,” I said closing my eyes, “I have some things I need to get done today.”

“Oh do you want me to help?” Liam asked sounding a bit disappointed.

“No I’m fine,” I said grabbing what I needed and set them on the counter, “Why don’t you go enjoy the day or something Li. We’ve been together for most of the last 72 hours together.”

“Mel if you’re upset about last night,” Liam started.

“Liam I’m not upset,” I said repeating in my head that he was a hired date, “I just need to do some things by myself today. I’ll call you later and maybe we can do dinner and a movie at my place okay?”

“Okay,” he said sounding deflated, “Have a good day and be safe okay?”

“I will,” I said, “Bye Liam.”

“Bye Mel,” he said and I hung up.

That was a bit tough but I kept telling myself that it needed to be done. I then put my bagel in the toaster and then made my coffee and called my mom. I told her about how the dress fit perfectly and how Liam’s tux fit perfect as well and told her that we would be flying with Lilly and Greg. We then caught up and of course she told me that the next wedding was going to be mine. I just rolled my eyes and ignored the comments about how I was a horrible person from keeping Liam away from the family for so long even though I told them we had only been dating
for three months. We ended our conversation and I just sighed and ran my hands over my face. There was a reason why I moved away from my family. I was never money hungry like they were. I was perfectly okay with the amount of money I made and with my career path. To me everything material didn’t matter to me because what really mattered were the relationships I was making and life in general because we were never going to bring any of the materialistic objects we had to heaven when we died. I finished my breakfast and grabbed my purse and headed out to enjoy my day off. I spent most of the day out and about keeping myself busy and I spoiled myself with buying a few book for me to read on the flight to New York and on the flight back to London. I was walking up the stairs to my apartment when I saw Liam sitting in front of my door with a giant bouquet of poppy, peony, and dogwood flowers in his hand. I made it to the top stair and he looked over to see me and scrambled up from the ground. I got closer and he handed them to me.

“I bought these for you,” Liam said and I took them and smiled lightly at them and then up at him, “I wanted to apologize for yesterday. I just don’t want this to go bad for. . .”

“I understand Li,” I replied, “Want to stay for dinner? I can make some pasta and we can watch TV. I think there is a soccer match on later tonight.”

“Sure,” he smiled, “I’d like that.”

I then smiled and unlocked my apartment door and I heard Ace’s bark and I smiled as he came sliding into the doorway.

“Hey there Ace,” I cooed as I walked into my living room and set my things in there.

I then noticed Ace size up Liam and went over to him and sniffed him. After a second he barked and then put his front paws on his legs.

“Well hello little fellow,” he said picking him up, “You must be Ace. You weren’t here when I was here last time.”

“He was with a neighbor,” I said, “I didn’t know if you were allergic to dogs or not.”

“Nope,” he smiled lightly at me, “I have a Husky named Loki.”

I then smiled lightly as he set Ace down and then followed me into the living room.

“Well make yourself comfortable and I’ll start on dinner then,” I said.

I then made my way into kitchen and started looking for things to make my famous simple yet amazing pasta dish. I must have forgotten I left my skype open and on when I heard it ringing. I quickly walked over to see it was my sister calling. I knew if I didn’t answer computer she’d call me until I answered so I sighed and pulled the laptop onto the counter. I pressed the answer button and waited until I saw her face.

“There you are,” she said and I smiled at my older sister.

“Hey Lilly,” I said smiling at my older sister.

“Mom told me you got the dress and tux they fit fine then?” she asked and I smiled.

“Yes,” I replied, “They fit fine.”

“Good,” she grinned and then she smirked, “You’re cooking your pasta dish aren’t you?”

“Yes,” I laughed.

“Where is he then?” she smirked and I just laughed.

“What makes you think Liam’s here?” I asked smirking, “What if I just wanted to make my pasta myself?”

“You’re so full of shit Melanie,” she said, “Let me meet him!”

“Fine,” I sighed and looked to see Liam in the doorway of my kitchen smirking at me.

He nodded his head and I smiled at him.

“Li, babe,” I said and he walked up, “Lilly meet my boyfriend Liam Payne. Liam meet my older sister Lilly.”

“So you’re the famous Lilly that Mel talks about all the time,” Liam smiled warmly at the computer screen as he placed his chin on my shoulder and his arms around my waist.

“You talk about me?” she asked shocked.

“Well you are my partner in crime,” I said and she smirked at me.

“I want to talk to him alone,” she said and I laughed a bit nervously and Liam gave me a reassuring smile.

“If she scares you, you call me understand?” I asked and both Liam and Lilly laughed.

“We’ll be fine love,” he said and kissed my temple.

“Yeah Mel don’t worry so much,” she teased and I just rolled my eyes as they walked out of the kitchen.

I wasn’t nervous that Liam couldn’t win my sister over, I was more worried of the fact that something would come up that Liam and I hadn’t exactly talked about. We had only known each other for three days for god sakes! All I could do was cook dinner and pray that Liam would be alright.
