My Favorite Date

Chapter Twelve

I was currently curling my hair for dinner when Liam came into the bathroom in just his boxers.

“You’re still not done?” he asked shocked.

“Hey it takes time to be perfect,” I smirked in the mirror as I finished curling my hair and started on my makeup.

“I’m sure,” he said winking at me and I just laughed.

“Go get dressed,” I said rolling my eyes, “I’m almost done with my makeup and then I’ll get my dress on.”

Liam just playfully rolled his eyes and walked out of the bathroom and I smiled shaking my head. Ever since Liam and I had shared our heartbreak stories with each other, we had become super close and for some reason I just hoped that maybe I was Liam’s last date. Everyone thought we made a cute couple and we balanced each other out. Even Maggie and Talia told me that we just needed to officially date and get rid of the escort title thing. I quickly shook those thoughts out of my head and I quickly finished and went to go grab my dress. I changed in the bathroom and came out and smiled at Liam who was watching TV with his tie undone.

“Hey Li can you zip up my dress?” I asked turning around.

“Of course,” Liam said and I was grateful that he hadn’t seen the dress quiet yet.

This was a new dress that I had bought with Maggie and Talia before we left for the wedding and I was excited to see what Liam would say. He zipped up the dress and I turned around to thank him.

“Thanks,” I said looking up to see him staring at me shocked.

“You’re. . .You. . .Wow,” he whispered and I felt myself blush slightly.

“You like it?” I asked, “I let Maggie and Talia pick it out. Do you think it’s too much? This is all about Lilly and I don’t want to. . .”

“Mel you look stunning,” he said, “It’s a beautiful dress.”

“Thanks,” I said blushing and I was now super aware of how close we were standing next to each other.

“Mind helping me out now?” he asked and I just laughed slightly.

“After all that you’ve done you still don’t know how to tie a tie?” I asked raising an eyebrow and Liam just chuckled.

“I do know how,” he said, “I just want to see if you know how?”

I just laughed at his antics and quickly did his tie.

“There,” I said smoothing his tie down and his shirt, “Perfect.”

I then looked up to see that Liam was staring down at me and I smiled lightly. Before I knew what was happening, Liam pushed his lips against mine softly and wrapped his arms around my waist. My hands found his chest and when he pulled away I slowly opened my eyes to find him smiling at me.

“Confidence booster,” he replied, “You and I can do this.”

“We can,” I said as he put on his jacket.

“Let’s go,” he said as he grabbed my hand and we headed down the stairs and found everyone was sitting in the living room.

“About time,” Jake teased us, “I was about to send up a search party.”

“Sorry about being late,” I said, “I was having a wardrobe malfunction.”

“You look so good sis!” Lilly grinned hugging me, “Is that the dress I was telling you, you needed to buy?”

“Yeah,” I blushed and Lilly grinned.

“I knew it would look stunning on you,” she said.

She was then going to drag me to the car but my mother stopped her.

“Melanie can I speak with you for a moment?” she asked and I nodded my head.

We waited for everyone to leave the room before she turned to me and I saw the critical mother I grew up with.

“I told you earlier and I will tell you again do not upstage your sister over the next couple of weeks,” she told me sternly, “This is her day not yours, so quit being so selfish.”

I couldn’t really respond but I just nodded my head. Before my mother add anymore, Liam came in cutting her off.

“There you are,” he smiled at me, “I thought Lilly had dragged you to the car already.”

“No,” I said giving him a fake smile, “Mother just needed to talk to me.”

“Well come on then ladies,” Liam said smiling at us, “We can’t leave two beautiful ladies without an escort.”

“Oh Liam,” my mother said as I slipped my hand into the crook of Liam’s arms, “You are such the charmer.”

She then walked a bit ahead of us meeting with my father who gave me an apologetic smile and I just shook my head. Out of my siblings, my mother was the most critical of me. It was probably because out of the three of my siblings I was completely fine on my own. I didn’t ask for money when I knew I needed it and I did things my way. I didn’t become a housewife after high school and I had made a career for myself. The only car open when we walked out of the house was the car with my family so Liam and I got in and I was sitting next to Lilly.

“There you two are!” Lilly laughed at us, “Are you still in the honeymoon phase or what?”

“Nonsense,” I laughed as I felt my mother glare at me.

“Melanie,” my mom said.

“I wouldn’t call it the honeymoon phase,” Liam said swooping in and saving the day like always, “We’re just still smitten.”

He then kissed my cheek and I blushed.

“Enough about us though,” I said, “You haven’t told me everything about what’s going to happen next week.”

That then launched Lilly into talking about the wedding and I could feel my mother relax a bit. I knew that Liam could pick up on my uneasiness but now wasn’t the time to talk about it. Like my mother told me earlier this was all about Lilly and not about me and Liam.
