We had been on the plane for a few hours and Liam and I were just talking amongst ourselves like we had been for weeks.

“So how do you rate our interaction with Louis?” Liam asked as he took a sip of his water.

“I would give us an eight out of ten,” I said confidently.

“Only an eight?” he asked confused.

“We could’ve been more lovey,” I giggled and he just laughed at me and kissed my cheek.

“He’s watching us,” Liam whispered in my ear and I felt myself blush with how close we were.

“Hey you two love birds come join the party!” I heard Harry’s voice exclaim and I just rolled my eyes.

I stood up and grabbed Liam’s hand and we walked towards the front of the plane where Niall and Harry were messing around with Niall’s guitar. Louis was absorbed in his phone trying to pretend not to pay attention to me and Liam and Lilly and Greg was just watching in amusement.

“Play with us Mel,” Niall grinned at me, “Come sing one song for us?”

“You all have to sing with me then,” I said and Liam looked at me confused.

“You know how to play?” he asked shocked.

“The girl can play anything with strings,” Lilly piped up, “Remind us to have her play Devil Went Down to Georgia for you on the fiddle.”

“Lilly,” I said feeling myself blush.

“You never told me that,” he said playfully glaring at me.

“One of my many mysterious secrets I have to keep you on your toes,” I said tapping his nose and I heard Niall and Harry gag.

“Just play so I don’t lose my breakfast,” Harry said as I sat down on the ground and picked up Niall’s guitar and started playing “Ain’t it Fun” by Paramore.

By then end of the song everyone except Louis was singing along and having a blast. I messed around with Harry and Niall with the extra guitars that Harry brought and soon Liam took my spot and I went to go sit over with Louis to try and play nice like my sister begged me too many months prior to this whole ordeal.

“Hey Lou,” I said sitting next to him.

“Hey Melanie,” he said still refusing to use my nickname and I sighed.

“Why are you being so cold?” I asked, “I promised Lilly I would be civil to you but it’s really hard when you’re acting like a jerk.”

“Oh so you coming here and rubbing it in my face that you have a new boyfriend is being civil?” he asked with venom in his voice.

“But cheating on your girlfriend of eight years for over half of it is okay?” I asked in a very scary calm voice.

Louis then looked up from the table at me.

“Mel I told you I was sorry about that,” he sighed and I snorted.

“You mean over a text with the words I’m sorry after being broken up for four months,” I said looking at him, “Yeah I could totally tell that you were truly sorry.”

“Mel,” he said and I looked at him to see him staring at me with some weird emotion that I had no idea Louis knew how to feel.

“Look Louis,” I sighed ignoring the guilty look he was giving me, “You had your chance to fight for me. To come after me and make me listen but you didn’t and I’m sorry if you had some ah-ha moment but it’s too late.”

I then looked over at Liam and smiled lightly at how he was messing around with Harry and Niall and then over at Louis who was watching me.

“I’ve finally moved on,” I said and stood up from where Louis was sitting and went back to join Liam, Harry, and Niall.

After a few hours of just talking with everyone I was getting tired so I excused myself and made my way back towards the back of the plane to take a nap. Soon I drifted off and I had the worst nightmare.

I was in the living room of my grandparents’ house and everyone was sitting around chatting. It was around morning time so I walked up to my parents to tell them good morning but when I got closer to them they turned their backs on me. I tried it with everyone and they did the same thing. I then heard them whispering.

“Can you believe she hired that boy to come with her?” I heard my cousin Jane whisper to Lilly, “Isn’t that pathetic.”

I felt the heat rush to my cheeks and I spun around to see Louis smirking at me. He walked up to me and I was frozen to place and couldn’t run.

“Thought I wouldn’t find out love that you’re still not over me?” he laughed harshly, “Paying someone to be your date for Lilly’s wedding isn’t that a little desperate Mel? Even for you?”

He then walked away laughing as I could feel the embarrassment course through my veins as I felt everyone talking about me. I then caught Liam out of the corner of my eye and I quickly walked up to him to ask him to save me, but just like Louis he was laughing harshly as well.

“You’re parents already paid me love,” he said, “I’m done being your boyfriend. You weren’t that great anyways as being a girlfriend. No wonder why Louis cheated on you.”

He then laughed as he and Louis walked away and I just felt my heart breaking all over again.

Before it could get worse, I was shaken awake and I shot up instantly breathing hard.

“Mel, love are you okay?” I heard Liam ask worriedly and I looked over at him and just hugged him tightly.

He was thrown off guard for a minute but he returned the gesture quickly.

“Mel whatever you dreamt wasn’t real,” he whispered trying to calm me down, “It was just a nightmare.”

“Oh my god it was horrible Liam,” I whispered, “It was one of my worst fears.”

I then looked up at Liam and I saw in his face that he knew exactly what I was talking about. He pulled me closer to him and he kissed the top of my head.

“I’m not going to let that happen,” he said, “Not if I can help it Mel. Not if I can help it.”
I just smiled in Liam’s chest and we tried to get some more sleep before getting to Savannah.
