Gotta be you
Chapter Forty-Seven
Liam took a deep breath and scratched the back of his neck before speaking. He seemed to be searching for words. This had better be good if it was this hard to say. Finally the words came, and they were not what I was expecting.
Liam: I hate seeing you with him.
I tried to piece things together in my mind, but I was lost.
Me: What?
Liam: James
He waved his arm dismissively and defeatedly fell back into his seat. I still wasn't getting the picture.
Me: Why do you hate James?
Liam: I don't hate James. I just hate you with him.
Me: So you hate me now?
Liam: No!
Me: Then what are you saying?
He covered his hands with his face and exhaled as he ran them through his hair.
Liam: Look. I still have feelings for you. I wasn't exactly okay with our breakup. I have been a mess since you left. Seeing you wrapped around some other pop star's arms is like sticking a knife through me. There I said it.
I was floored. He was the one that it was killing to see with someone else?
Me: Hold up. What about your girlfriend?
Liam: What girlfriend?
Me: That "Danielle" girl or whoever she is.
I used air quotes as I spoke. He started acting slightly sheepish.
Liam: Honestly? That was my attempt to get over you...a failed attempt.
I looked in his eyes. He seemed sincere.
Me: Are you serious?
Liam: Dead serious. Not that it matters now. You're with James.
His gaze drifted to the dance floor. My eyes never left his face, his perfect face. I gently touched my hand to his cheek and turned his eyes back to mine.
Me: He is my attempt to get over you.
His expression changed. There was a bit of hope in his eyes. I continued.
Me: My failed attempt.
After I said that, there was no hesitation. He practically lept from his seat to crash his lips into mine. The old fireworks were back. Our lips started moving in sync. I let my arms raise to his shoulders. His hand caressed my face gently and mine got tangled in his hair. After a while we broke it off.
Liam: Oh how I've missed those.
Me: Me too.
Liam: I hate seeing you with him.
