Gotta be you
Chapter Forty-Eight
I sat looking into Liam's eyes breathlessly. It felt so right to be with Liam, but I felt like nothing else could happen until I spoke with James. I sat back in my seat.
Me: I need to talk to James.
He just nodded in response, but the look on his face gave away his excitement at getting me back. He tried to keep a straight face and failed miserably. I couldn't help but smile a bit at the adorable look on his face. It was like I had just told a little boy that he could keep a puppy.
The others came back to the table wearily. They were all about gone.
Liam: I think it's time to get back to the apartments.
Me: Agreed.
James and Niall leaned on my shoulders. I could barely support their weight and walk. After we got back, Liam and I walked all of the guys back to their apartments, making sure they didn't get into any more trouble along the way. Finishing that, we helped James back and I got him to Liam's guest room.
A few slurred words were all he uttered before he started softly snoring. I exhaled deeply and looked at Liam.
Me: I guess I'm on the couch tonight.
Liam: Nonsense! I'll take the couch. You can have my bed.
Me: You don't have to do that.
Liam: I'm not letting a lady sleep on the couch when I have a comfortable bed to offer her.
Me: And I'm not letting you give up your own bed.
Liam: Then how about we meet in the middle?
Me: What?
Liam: Share? It is plenty big for both of us without anything happening.
Me: I don't know Liam...
I trailed off and rubbed my arm nervously. I had never shared a bed with anyone before. He put a hand on my shoulder and made me look him in the eyes.
Liam: Nothing is wrong with that. We aren't doing anything.
I slowly gave in. I grabbed some sweats and an old tshirt from my bag before entering Liam's room. He wore a similar outfit. He was still brushing his teeth when I slipped into his bed. I laid there awkwardly, waiting for him to join me. He finished up and slipped in beside me, although a full meter away. As he spoke, he turned his back to me.
Liam: Goodnight, Shay.
Me: Goodnight, Liam.
I laid perfectly still until his breathing evened. I felt so close to him, even with all of the space between us. It felt like home. I could see this being my life in the future. I scooted closer to him slowly and quietly, trying not to wake him. To my surprise he scooted closer to me until our backs were touching.
I felt a tingle at his touch. This is what I missed. This is why I wanted to be with him. This is love.
