Kiss Me
The News
My alarm clock screamed into my ear causing me to jump up and slam the top, turning it off. “Why did I ever buy this piece of shit?” I mumbled to myself. I’m not a morning person at all and going to school was something that made my attitude even worse. It felt like there was no point to school; I had no aspirations to be anything else except a singer. I closed my eyes and daydreamed myself singing onstage with my favorite singer ever, Christina Aguilera; next thing I knew I was fast asleep again.
“Nevaeh?” said a familiar voice in my dream. “Nevaeh, wake up! Hey! Wake up!” screamed the voice, waking me up. It was Madeline and she was jumping up and down on me. I looked at the clock and realized I had to be at school in 30 minutes, so I jumped into the shower, got ready, ate a couple of bites of toast and ran out the door with Madeline. “You ready for summer?” she asked me as we walked up to the school doors. “More than you’ll ever know! How about you?” I replied “Totally. I forgot to tell you some really big news,” she said. “Okay, what is it? I’m all ears.” I turned my head attentively. “Not here, after school. I promise it’s worth the wait.” She smiled as we both entered class together.
The day couldn’t have gone any slower. I was dying to know what she had to tell me that was so big. When the last bell had rung, we met up outside the doors and ran straight to my house without stopping to admire the shirtless boys who were playing football outside. “Mum, we’re home!” I yelled out of breath and ran up to my room with Madeline. “So, spill! What is it?” I asked eagerly. “Okay…now don’t get mad at me, or get sad when I tell you this but…I got a job.” I noticed she hesitated a bit when she said it. “Oh, that’s great! Where is it? What are you doing? Are you doing hair? I know how much you loved doing our hair. Is it nearby?” I bombarded her with questions. “…Well, it’s actually acting. You know how much I loved being in plays and being free on stage. I had an audition for a lead role in a movie coming out in a little over a year, last week and I ended up getting the part.” She said. I didn’t know how to feel, nor know what to say to her. I was happy, but I was also very sad and a little part of me was envious. Why does she get the successful life? Why does she get to have all of the attention?
After about 10 minutes of silence and selfish thoughts, I finally had the nerve to say something. “Well, where will you be filming and how long will it take?” I asked trying to hold back tears. “We’re filming in L.A., I leave in a week and won’t be back for 8 months or more.” I could see that she was tearing up when she said it. “Congratulations, Mads. I’m so proud and happy for you.” My voice broke and the tears came pouring down my face. We both hugged as she started to cry as well. “I’m so excited! You have to fly out and visit me sometime while I’m shooting. Maybe I can tell people about your incredible voice. You never know what kind of connections they may have.” She smiled. “That sounds exciting! I hope you can get some connections.” I laughed, and continued, “Don’t worry about me, though. I’ll be all right. School will be lonely and I won’t have anyone to run home and obsess over McFly with, but if you’re happy then that’s all that matters.” We hugged again, and figured out how we were going to spend our last week together.
The week flew by, but it ended on a happy note. We made the week worthwhile and both agreed to remain in contact as much as possible.
I jumped in her mum's car with her and we drove to the airport, blasting McFly. "LIES! Living in a fantasy. LIES! Don't even know reality. LIES! When you start talking, I'll start walking. LIES, LIES, LIES!" we screamed and fell over on each other, laughing. Once we got to the airport, Madeline was getting uneasy and I could tell that she was getting upset. "Maddy?" I said and she turned her head towards me. "You know that you're going to love it there. You have nothing to worry about. You'll make tons of new friends and I'll still be here for you whenever you need me." I smiled at her. "I know, it's just hard because I won't have my best friend by my side to talk to about a new boy, or to cry to when things get tough." she said. "I know, but I'm only a phone call away. If it's really bad and you need me, no matter what time of the day it is, call me. I will answer." We got to the check-in point and she walked towards the desk to give the lady her ticket. She looked back and ran over to me, hugging my tightly. "I'm going to miss you, Vaeh." "I'll miss you too." I replied. "I'll be leaving for L.A. tomorrow, sweetie so I'll meet up with you there. Don't be scared, someone will be there waiting for you." her mum told her. Madeline hugged her mum and walked to the entrance. She turned around and waved goodbye giving us the biggest smile I had seen her give in awhile.
I knew right then that this would be the last I saw of her for quite some time.
There was some way I had to make my dreams come true, like Madeline did. She was my inspiration and I vowed I would end up where she is, one day.

Notes
I'm not sure if I said this previously, but Nevaeh's memories are what this story is about. Except the funeral, that's supposed to be present day. Sorry for any confusion! Thanks again for reading x
