Kiss Me

The Funeral

“What do you mean, dead?!” I asked in disbelief. “Oh my God, I can’t believe it…I’m so sorry honey…Alright, I’ll see you then…take it easy…Okay, bye.” I hung up the phone and fell back on my hotel bed in total shock at the news I had just received. After staring at the ceiling for about 10 minutes and taking it all in, it finally hit me that he was gone. I covered my face and silently sobbed.

-----------
“He was one of the greatest guys I ever had a chance to know. Even though his attitude could be off-putting to some, he had the biggest heart of anyone I’ve ever met. He helped me with my career and forced me to never give up on my dreams or myself. Although he was always busy, either saving the world from all of the tone-deaf lunatics or vacationing to get away from everything, we always kept in touch.” I spoke to the crowd. There were hundreds of people gathered as they mourned the loss of a great man. Sniffles and quiet sobs could be heard throughout the church as I continued my speech, “He was a wonderful friend, a father-figure to, a role model and he will be greatly missed.” I stepped down from the podium, went up to his casket and whispered “Save me a spot up there, Chief.” A tear rolled down my cheek as I tried my best to suppress my emotions.
After several more speeches, the service ended and everyone followed in their cars to the cemetery burial site. As the priest said his final prayers as the casket was lowered into the ground, I knew I couldn’t watch without getting choked up, so I averted my eyes to the beautiful and saddening tombstone that read: “Simon Cowell 1959-2016 Beloved Husband, Son, Brother and Friend.” I smiled as I told myself not to mourn, but to celebrate the memories we had and the life lessons he taught me. At that moment a part of me could feel a pair of eyes watching my every move. I turned and made eye contact with my past, only to be reminded that this is all real and something I can't push aside. Everything had happened. All of it, for a reason…

This chapter was short, but the next ones will be longer. :) Thank you for reading! x
