Fix Me

Chapter 34

Harry's POV

"I'm going to get another box," Lana chirps. She gives me a quick kiss on the cheek as she walks by me. I walk to her bedroom and set my box down, then look around with a sigh at all the boxes. It's going to take us forever and a day to unpack everything. All the boxes practically covered the whole floor of the place. El had started to unpack her stuff, but she abandoned that and went upstairs to help Niall and Louis. She knows they won't get anything done unless she's there.

I head back down to the parking garage and turn around the corner. When the truck comes into view Lana does as well. My hands ball up into fists and my entire body tenses when I see a random guy trying to help her with a box. Seriously? Is this some kind of sick joke? This is the third time I've come down here to see a random standing there with her. It's getting ridiculous. As I make my way over to her I can see she looks a little annoyed.

"Really, I can handle it. My boyfriend should be here-"

"Right about now," I finish for her. She gives me a small apologetic smile and I give her an even smaller smirk, shaking my head slightly. It's not her fault her bare legs attract guys like a moth to a flame. I stand beside her but slightly in front of her. "I can take it from here, mate."

He takes a moment to size me up as he stands up straight. "So you do have a boyfriend. I thought you were trying to get rid of me."

"She was. Beat it."

He gives me a weird smile before starting to back away from the truck. "I'll see you around."

"I wouldn't count on it!" I call after him. Once he's far enough away I turn back around to look at Lana with a questioning look. "Seriously?"

"What?"

"That's the third one."

"Actually, fourth. I managed to chase one away before you got here," she says, climbing into the back of the truck.

"Maybe if you wore more clothing guys wouldn't come up to you by the thousands."

"Can you get that one?" she asks, ignoring my request and pointing to the box she was just trying to lift. "It's a tad heavy."

"Yeah, stop trying to lift the heavy boxes. If you didn't look like you were struggling they wouldn't feel the need to help," I point out, lifting the box she was referring to. She just laughs as I walk back to the building. I keep the door open as she walks towards me, sticking her tongue out at me as she walks by.

"This one is yours," she says as we get to her floor. "That's the last of mine. I'll bring this one up and see what the others are doing."

I practically run to put the box down in the girls' apartment, then make my way quickly up to my place. Lana and I discussed Niall on the way here, and she practically ordered me not to make a big deal about it. According to her his feelings are completely harmless and I have nothing to worry about. He's going to keep seeing Mia and things are going to go back to the way they were. They used to spend a lot of time together though, and I have a feeling Lana isn't planning on changing that. I trust them both, but the thought of it just rattles me. I don't want him anywhere near her. But apparently that's not a 'reasonable' request.

When I get upstairs El is standing in front of the TV, blocking it from a very annoyed Louis and Niall.

"Come on, one game!" Louis pleads. "We're tired!"

"No, we need to finish! Plus, you have to help me with my stuff."

"Can't we do yours tomorrow?"

"Louis!"

"Okay fine, we'll do some of yours today and finish mine tomorrow."

She rolls her eyes and turns around to shut off the TV. "Don't be so lazy. Doesn't it drive you crazy to have all these boxes everywhere?"

"We can't all be neat freaks like you," I butt in. El looks up and rolls her eyes at me. Louis and Niall both turn and wave at me. Lana emerges from my room empty handed and pulls me out of the room by my hand.

"Let's go get the rest of the stuff."

"Where do you want all of these clothes?" I ask, lifting a box of clothing onto her bed.

"Just put them on the bed for now. I need to organize my closet."

I start unpacking and laying the clothes on the bed. Two or three layers in I come across something quite interesting.

"Hey, Lan?"

"Yeah."

"What umm...what is this?" I ask, holding up a black lacy and extremely see through one-piece. It kind of looks like a bathing suit. But it clearly is not. I hold it up by the straps and admire it before looking up. Lana turns her head quickly without really looking, then she stands up from the box she was reaching into and clasps both hands over her mouth. She quickly walks over and snatches it out of my hand.

"Where did you get that?" she asks.

"Where did you get that?" I counter, smirking at her. Her face is impossibly red and she has now rolled up the material and placed it behind her back. "When did you get it?"

"You weren't supposed to see them," she says quietly.

"Them?"

"Shit," she mutters, looking away from me. I step forward and snake my arms around her waist, reaching for the lingerie. She moves it around, eluding my grasp.

"Let me see," I laugh, keeping up my efforts.

"I don't know if you could tell, but I'm a tad embarrassed right now."

"Yeah, I noticed. So what do the other ones look like?" I prod, putting both hands on her back and holding her against me.

"Do you want to see them now or on me later?" she asks quietly, looking at my lips for a moment before meeting my eyes.

"So there's more than one?" She nods and bites her bottom lip. "You're trying to kill me, aren't you?"

She laughs and kisses my lips to distract me as she puts the piece back into the box. I hardly notice though; I would much rather be kissing her. Our lips move perfectly together for a few minutes, tongues teasing. When she pulls back I can feel myself pout, which makes her laugh a little.

"We can do that when we've finished unpacking. I will finish with this box, thank you very much." She stands in front of the box I had previously been assigned to and I take the one she was in that held her shoes. She has way too many. We'll be lucky if we get her room set up before midnight at this rate. She has so much shit!

After a few hours everything is finally done, and we're both exhausted from the day of driving and lugging boxes up the stairs. Lana's room is a complete mess, but all the boxes from in here are unpacked. It's progress. There's still a few in the living room; a lot of them are Eleanor's. She still hasn't come back from upstairs. I can only imagine how much fun Louis and Niall are having with her going mother on them.

"Shit!"

I turn around and furrow my eyebrows at Lana. She's chucking clothes, towels, and sheets every which way clearly searching for something.

"Babe, what's wrong?"

"My bracelet! I can't find it. I know I had it on when we got here. It's got to be here somewhere." Her voice is panicked as she continues to turn the room upside-down looking for it. She looks like she's about to cry.

"Lan." I walk over and put my hands on her face to make her look at me. "We'll find it. Relax. It's in here somewhere."

She nods and I kiss her forehead before letting her go and helping her look. Once we've searched the whole apartment, we still haven't found it.

"Let's go check upstairs," she says, rushing past me and going up the three flights of stairs to my apartment. She barges in and heads straight for my room where we put my three boxes. She's grown extremely attached to the charm bracelet I gave her; she rarely takes it off, and when she misplaces it she practically has a panic attack. I follow her to my room and help her look around. When I get on the floor I find it underneath my bed.

"Here it is," I announce, standing and holding it up. She breathes an audible sigh of relief and rushes over to me. I help her put it back on and she runs her fingers along a few of the charms. She looks so afraid for some reason. I put my finger under her chin and tilt her head up to meet my eyes. "It's okay," I soothe. She sighs and nods her head. "Why do you get so worried about it?"

"It's so important to me," she whispers. "If I don't have it I don't function the same way. It's pathetic, I know, but it's like my safety net or something. When you were gone it was one piece of you that I still had with me. It was like....the only proof I had that you really did exist."

The honesty of her answer shocks me a little. I'm not sure what to say, so I just wrap my arms around her and hold her tight against me, her cheek pressed against my chest. Sometimes I feel like I need her way more than she needs me. Then we have moments like this and I realize that it's mutual; we can't function properly without each other. If I believed in soulmates, she would be mine.

*a few days later"

"And that's where you'll have most of your classes. Health sciences building," she points out. Lana dragged me to the university campus today after we finally finished getting both places settled in. Yesterday we were pretty tired from the busyness of it all, so we just stayed in and watched movies and stuff. Today she made me come so she could show me around a bit.

"I'm quite capable of finding my way around," I remind her, slinging my arm around her shoulder. She laces her fingers into my dangling hand and smiles up at me.

"I know, but I wanted to get out today. This seemed like a good idea. Do you want to get your textbooks?"

I shrug. "I guess."

"Classes start on Monday, Harry, and the bookstore won't be open tomorrow because it's Sunday."

"So when you asked if I wanted to what you really meant was that it's what we're doing either way."

"Exactly."

I laugh and kiss the top of her head as she takes me to the campus store. "Do you have all your books already?"

"Yep. You have your list, right?"

I pull out my phone and bring up the list from the school website. She takes it and escapes my arm as we get inside the store. She leads me around and hands me textbooks as she finds them. After fifteen minutes we've found them all, and we're waiting in the checkout line.

"Brace yourself," she warns. "They're ridiculously expensive."

Lana's POV

After we've gotten all of Harry's stuff we head back to the apartment. Harry flops down onto my couch on his phone. I sneak a peak at the screen and my face instantly turns to a frown when I see he's looking at apartment listings. I really don't want him to go. I like it that he's so close to me and it's fun that me and El live together and the guys live together. I don't see why anything has to change. I go to the kitchen and start boiling some water so I can make pasta.

"Do you think I should get a one bedroom or two?" Harry calls from the couch.

"I think you should get a three bedroom. Oh wait, you already have one. Guess theres no point in moving."

I can hear him sigh as he gets up. I don't look at him; we've had this argument a few times now. He knows I don't want him to move. I want him to be close by. I like the way things are. I lean back into him when his arms wrap around my waist from behind. He kisses the top of my head and leans his chin on it.

"I know you don't want me to move, babe. But I'm a grown man. I want my own place."

"It's unnecessary," I argue. "You have a perfectly good one upstairs with your two best friends."

"And that's been fun, but it's just time."

"Is this about Niall?" I can feel his body stiffen at my question, but he quickly relaxes again.

"No."

"Liar."

He sighs again and release me, leaning on his hip against the counter beside the stove. His eyes are practically burning holes in the side of me face, but I refuse to look at him.

"I'm not lying. Why is it such a big deal to you that I want to be on my own?" I can tell he's trying to hide it, but I notice irritation in his tone.

"I just don't understand. Living with the boys is cheaper and why would you want to live by yourself instead of with your best friends."

"I just...do. Look, you don't have to understand. Just come with me next week? I'm going to look at a bunch of places. One of them is even in the building."

"I thought you said it wouldn't be right away?" I ask, turning to look at him. He's losing patience with me, I can tell.

"Damn it, Lan, do you want to come with me or not?"

"Are you going to act like this? Because if so, no I do not."

"Why are you so fucking difficult," he groans, walking out the front door. Well okay then. Guess it's dinner for one.
