Fix Me

Chapter 33

Harry's POV

"Harry, why do you have so much shit?" Lana groans, putting even more stuff in a box. It's the last one I think. "All of this stuff isn't even going to fit in Niall and Louis' place!"

I laugh and tape the box in front of me closed. "I know. I'm not taking it all right now, but I want to have it ready for when I get my own place."

"You're getting your own place?" she asks, folding some towels.

"Yeah, eventually."

"Why? That means you won't be in our building anymore."

"I'm going to look around a bit first. Maybe something in the building will open up." She frowns and puts the last of the stuff in the box while I walk over to her. "Don't worry about it, babe. I won't be far, I promise."

She smiles and wraps her arms around my waist. "I'm sad."

"Why?"

"I'm not ready to go back yet. This summer has been so perfect." She sighs against my chest while I rub slow circles against her back.

"Yeah, it was. I'm kind of excited for school though."

She leans her head back and looks up at me. "Really?"

"Yeah, it's been weird not being in school the last two years." I always planned on going to university, but obviously Zayn didn't like that plan. Now I'm behind. Awesome. I'm going to be two years older than everyone else in my classes. After a lot of stressing out and weighing the pros and cons, I decided to go into the physiotherapy program. Thank goodness it's only a three year program, so I'll only be done one year after Lana is. "I just hope I made the right decision."

She reaches up and puts her hands on either side of my face. "You're going to do great."

I lean down to press my lips against hers. I attempt to deepen the kiss but she pulls back.

"No getting distracted! We need to finish packing, we leave tomorrow."

"Not even just a little?" I ask quietly, moving my lips to her neck instead. I can hear her breathing start to become uneven. She suddenly pushes hard against my chest so that we separate slightly.

"Let's bring some boxes down," she suggests, voice a little shaky. I laugh to myself and follow her down the stairs, each of us carrying a box. We load everything into the back of my truck and I pull it into the garage just in case it rains tonight.

"We can load all your stuff up in the morning. You're all packed, right?"

She nods as we step back inside. "My Dad was going to drive with us tomorrow and stay for a few days, but he can't anymore. So he said he's going to come visit some time in the first few weeks."

"Okay. By the way, Gemma said she wants to have us stay with them for a night or two. Maybe we could go there for a weekend or something," I suggest, following her into the living room. She lays down on the couch and I lift her legs so I can sit under them.

"That would be nice."

"What do you want to do with our last night?"

"Sleep."

I laugh and pat the back of her leg. "Don't be boring. We should do something."

"Okay, but then we should do something with all of us. Like you and me and your parents and my dad." She rolls onto her back and rests her hands on her stomach. "We could go out for dinner with all of us at the club."

I nod and squeeze myself between the back of the couch and Lana. I wrap one arm around her waist to keep her from falling. "That sounds nice." I lay my head down on her shoulder and her hand quickly goes to my hair. She likes to fiddle with my curls for some reason. I don't mind though, it's really relaxing.

Lana's POV

"Harry?" I chuckle to myself and continue playing with his hair. Looks like he fell asleep. He's got me pinned down though, so I can't move without waking him up. Oh well. Things are about to get crazy for both of us, so who knows how much time we'll have to be lazy like this. Might as well enjoy it.

After the whole Niall thing on the weekend, I'm not sure how it's going to be to go back to school. I know Harry is already feeling nervous and uncomfortable about everything and I just want things to go back to normal. Niall and I talked again yesterday about our...situation. We agreed that it would be best for everyone if we just acted like it never happened. He has Mia anyway; he's moving on. His feelings for me are completely harmless. I just don't think Harry sees it that way. I don't want this to ruin a friendship that he's had for basically his whole life.

I'm not surprised that Harry wants to get his own place. He can afford it and he likes his privacy. Plus the whole Niall thing. If he had his way I think he would keep my from ever speaking to Niall again. I wouldn't let that happen. Niall is one of my best friends and that's not going to change. The weird thing is, when me and Niall talk now it isn't awkward at all. Not even when we actually talk about him liking me. It's strange. He made this huge confession and it didn't change anything. I could not be happier. We're both just going to move on. I have Harry and he as Mia. Nothing has to change. Apparently we are the only ones that think that, though. The others have been grilling both of us about how it's going to be weird now and that Harry is going to make Niall's life really difficult until he's over me. Harry is jealous enough as it is. This is going to amplify that and it makes me nervous.

After a while of me driving myself crazy with my overthinking, the front door opens. I don't want to move or make any loud noises to wake Harry, so I just lift my hand and wave to whoever came in.

"Who is that? Lana?" Anne walks over and leans over the back of the couch. I put my fingers to my lips and point down to the curly-haired boy asleep on my shoulder.

"He's sleeping," I whisper. She nods her head in understanding and walks around to the other side. She stares at his face with an adoring smile before looking up at me.

"Is he packed?" she whispers.

"Yeah. Do you want to go for dinner tonight? You and Robin and us and my dad?"

She nods and gives me a thumbs up. I smile and she walks back around to the kitchen. Harry stirs a little but doesn't wake up. I have no idea what time it is, but I know we were pretty much packing all day. It's probably getting close to dinner and I need to get ready.

"Harry," I say softly, stroking his hair. "Harry, wake up." He hums in response and mumbles something under his breath. "Babe, I need to get up."

"Why?" he whines, tightening his hold around my waist.

"I have to get ready for dinner tonight."

"You look pretty like this."

"I'm wearing ripped shorts and a baggy tshirt. They wouldn't even let me inside the club like this."

He sighs and lifts his head to give me a lazy but sweet kiss. "Fine." He slides his arm under me and the rest of his body follows, holding me slightly on top of him. He breathes against the back of my neck and keeps a loose hold around my waist. "But for the record, you do look hot."

I giggle and sit up slowly. His hands fall from my waist and he repositions himself on the couch in a more comfortable position.

"I'll see you for dinner. We'll probably go around 7:30."

"Okay," he sighs.

"Don't sleep through dinner," I warn.

He smiles but still doesn't open his eyes. "I won't. Go shower. You're gross."

I laugh and slap his ass. "So rude."

I take one last look in the mirror and get my purse from the bed. I slide my phone into it as I walk down the stairs where my dad is waiting for me. And Harry. I give him a confused smile as I descend the staircase. His mouth is hanging open slightly and he's slowly raking his eyes up my body to my face. When our eyes meet he surprises me by blushing.

"Are you okay?" I ask with a laugh. He spins me around and dips me so he can plant a kiss on my lips.

"I'm great. You just look far too pretty for your own good." He lifts me back up and my face goes slightly red when I see that my dad has been watching the whole time.

"I need to make a phone call," my dad announces. "I'll be waiting in the car." As soon as he shuts the door Harry smashes his lips against mine.

"I thought we were meeting you guys at the club?" I ask breathlessly. Harry had texted me saying that he was going to drive with Anne and Robin.

"I changed my mind," he says simply. "I missed you."

"I saw you not two hours ago."

"Yes, but I was asleep. Doesn't count."

"Fine then. Two and a half hours ago."

He rolls his eyes and laces our fingers together. "Let's go. I'm starving."

Once we're at the club Robin and Anne are already seated in our usual spot. Anne immediately gets up and gives me hug. She holds my arms and stands back a bit admiring my dress.

"Lana, you look gorgeous!"

"Doesn't she?" Harry agrees, beaming at me. I give them both a smile and we all take our seats around the table. The amount of food they bring out for us is both expansive and incredibly delicious. I love how well my dad gets along with Anne and Robin; apparently he and Robin even golf together sometimes. It's nice to know that if Harry and I ever get married that we won't have those ridiculous in-laws that can't stand each other.

"What are you thinking about?" Harry asks me, placing his hand on my leg. I blink a few times and look over at him. He looks slightly amused. "Try not to get too lose in that pretty little head of yours."

"Don't worry, I won't."

"So, are you excited to start classes you two?" my dad asks while cutting another piece of steak.

"I'm...ready. Excited might be a stretch." I like school but who honestly gets excited for it?

"I am," Harry says. Okay, apparently someone does get excited for it.

"Really?" I ask. "Like actually excited?"

"Yeah, I didn't really mind school before and now that I'm finally able to go back I'm really looking forward to it." I stare at him dumbfounded. "What?"

I shake my head and take a sip of my wine. "Nothing. Just surprised." Getting excited to learn isn't exactly characteristic of former gang members.

"I am too," Anne says. "You were never this eager for school before. Actually, I seem to recall you doing anything and everything to get out of it."

Harry laughs and nods his head in agreement. "That is true. I'm not doing that this time, though."

"Damn right you're not," Anne says. "We pinky promised."

All of us laugh at this while Harry's face goes a tinge red. He's such a momma's boy. It's adorable. I get jealous of the relationship he has with his mother sometimes. Mine is barely a part of my life. She barely ever even calls me anymore.

Conversation flows effortlessly between the five of us. Harry is constantly cracking jokes and at one point I almost had wine coming out of my nose. I think he's a little tipsy as well, because he's being like Lou right now. Harry's sense of humour is more...sarcastic. He's not an entertaining type. Right now though, he's just loving all the attention. Eventually Anne and Robin announce that they're tired and will be heading home. My dad offers to go home with them so Harry and I can stay a little longer.

"We're going to be seeing a lot of each other, Dad. I'll probably get sick of him." I ruffle Harry's curls and he gives me a hurt look.

"I'm not going to lie, that one hurt," he says. I just laugh and pat his cheek.

"I'll come home with you, Dad." He nods and says he'll bring the car up front for me. Harry is sitting beside me pouting. "What? We aren't going to see our parents for a while. Don't you want to spend your last night with your mother? I'm sure she wants to have a quiet night with the three of you before you leave." I stand and step away from the table while I talk. He follows.

"Why are you trying to get rid of me?" he asks.

"You caught me." He rolls his eyes and I link my arm through his. "I honestly just want to spend a night with my dad before we leave."

He kisses the top of my head as we walk. "I guess that's allowed."

"Oh my gosh! That is not me!"

"I only have one daughter. Trust me, that's you."

I grab the photo out of his hand and hold it closer to my face. The girl in this photo is about two years old, with insanely curly hair that looks like an afro. She's smiling like someone who belongs in an insane asylum and is wearing clothes so ugly I can't even begin to describe them. It cannot be me.

"Mom has a lot of screwy things about her, but one thing she has always had is her sense of fashion. What happened?"

He laughs and takes the picture back. "I had you that day. You said mom always let you get dressed on your own, so I left your room for about five minutes and came back to see you looking like a little monster. I don't know how you managed it."

"I mean in all honesty it's kind of impressive," I joke.

"Your mother didn't seem to think so. You should have seen how angry she was."

"Hold on, you let me walk around like this?" He laughs and nods his head. "Dad! Oh my gosh! That's horrible!"

"You were so proud of yourself! I couldn't help it. I started to fix it and you started crying. Even back then you always got what you wanted. Such a brat."

"Dad!"

"It's a joke," he says, laughing and putting his arm around my shoulders. "It's been really nice having you home, Lana."

I lean my head on his shoulder and keep looking through the stack of hold photos in my hand. We've had the best night together. We watched some home videos from when I was a kid and now we've taken out a box of my baby stuff and we're looking through all of the pictures they kept over the years. I had really curly hair as a kid and it's quite amusing to see how untamed it was. It reminds me of Harry's hair in the morning.

"Dad?"

"Yes, sweetheart?"

"Do you think Harry and I are good for each other?" I sit up and look up at him. He looks mildly uncomfortable with my question.

"Why?"

"It's just...Niall said some things to me and I...I just want to know if you think I made the wrong decision by getting back together with him."

He sighs and scratches his head. "I don't know, Lan. You guys are obviously happy together. You were practically a zombie for two years when he left. Now you're you again. No one else could do that, not even me or your best friends." I nod and start chewing on my nail. "The way I see it, you are a part of each other. I don't believe in soul mates or any of that crap, but I can plainly see how much you love each other. Why do you think I didn't beat the crap out of him when he came back?"

I laugh and roll my eyes at him. "Right, like you could beat Harry up."

"Hey, there's no limit to the power of a protective father. He's going to take care of you. I can see that. He's a good guy. You're a smart girl. If it was all wrong you would know it. You figured it out with Josh."

"I guess so."

"He's not going to hurt you again, Lan."

"I know. I think." He raises his eyebrows in question. "I thought that before and look what happened."

"Harry has no intention of leaving you, Lana. Trust me."

I take my turn raising my eyebrows at the tone of his voice. "What does that mean?"

"Just trust me."

"Dad."

"I'm not going to tell you, so you might as well just drop it," he says as he gets up to get us some more ice cream.

"Fine."

Harry's POV

"Mum?"

"Yes my darling."

"Why are you still living here?"

"What do you mean?" she asks, washing another dish. We spent all night baking tons of stuff for me and Lana to take back with us.

"Well, we moved here when I needed to get out of Bradford. What kept you here after I left?"

"We were committed to starting a life here. Robin and I have come to call this place home. We have friends and jobs here. Plus, I knew that if we left it would be hard for you to find me again. I know you never read my letters."

I feel a pang of guilt in my stomach at her words. How could she possibly know that?

"It umm.."

"Was too hard. I get it, Harry. Even though we haven't been here for very long, Holmes Chapel is our home. I have a feeling it alway will be." She smiles up at me and hands me another dish to dry. "Are you still excited for school?"

"I didn't change my mind in the last few hours." I laugh. "I'm ready to go back. I didn't think I would ever be this happy about school."

"Me either. Things seem good with you and Lana," she says, nudging me playfully. I can't help the smile that spreads across my face.

"It's going really well, yes. I'm not going to lie, it has been challenging. We've had our fair amount of issues."

"That's how you know it's real," she says quietly. "It's also how you know it's strong. You two have been to hell and back and you're still in love and together."

"This is weird."

"What?"

"Talking about this."

"I'm your mother, you shouldn't feel weird talking to me about anything."

I laugh and take the next dish. "Mum, you and I both know that's not true."

"Lana, come on!" I holler up the stairs. "I would like to get to London before it gets dark out."

"Keep your pants on!" She yells back.

"Why? You know you'd rather I didn't!"

"I really don't want to hear that."

I spin around and my face goes slightly red when I see Lana's father lifting her last box to carry out to my truck. Well that's not embarrassing at all.

"Alright, I'm ready." I turn and glare at her while she walks down the stairs. "Woah, what's wrong?"

"Your father heard that last comment of mine."

She laughs and puts her hand over her mouth. "That's so awkward!"

"Yeah, tell me about it. Are you ready to go?"

"Why are you in such a rush?"

"I'm the one driving. I want to get there and unload everything before it gets dark. And because," I pull her against my and put my lips against her ear. "I'm tired of all this parental supervision." When I pull back to look into her eyes she's biting her lip and her cheeks are slightly flushed. We already said goodbye to my parents this morning so it's just Lana's dad. Then we're on our way.

"Alright, that's everything. Ready, kiddo?"

"Kiddo? That's a new one," Lana laughs.

"Be quiet and come give your old man a hug." She sighs and does as told. I know she's been dreading saying goodbye to her father. "Be safe. Study hard. I love you."

"I love you too, Dad. I'll call you when we get there."

He nods and releases her. "You better." He looks at me next. "You, take care of my girl."

"Don't worry. I plan to."
