Fix Me

Chapter 35

Lana's POV

As my last class of the day finally comes to an end I find myself feeling anxious. Harry and I didn't talk much more about his apartment hunting plans, but I did get a text from him this morning after he left saying that he would be going to the first place at two o'clock this afternoon. This class is ending now at 2:30, so I wouldn't have been able to meet him then anyway. I don't even know if he wants me to come anymore. I guess if he told me when that's sort of an invitation...

I've been very stubborn about this whole thing and I'm not even sure why. For some reason Harry moving out of the boys' place makes me nervous. I don't know what it is, I just feel like it'll change everything. I know, classic overdramatic girl. Things have been going so well and I don't want anything to ruin that. On top of it all, Harry has loved every one of his classes and professors. He's really settling in this year and not just for me. He's doing things for himself now.

Maybe that's what it is? Last year I was the whole reason he was in London. His world revolved around me; he didn't work or go to school and we spent every minute I wasn't doing those things either to be together. I guess now I feel like he's doing all this other stuff and it means I'm lower on the list of priorities.

I decide to quit being such a baby and call Harry to find out where he is. He answers on the first ring.

"Lan?"

"Yeah, it's me."

"What's up? Everything okay?"

I smile at how worried he sounds. I'm just calling him, it doesn't mean someone's dying. "Yeah, I'm fine. I was wondering where you are. I want to meet you."

"You do? Do you know what I'm doing right now?"

I roll my eyes as I answer. "Yes, Harry. I know you're looking at apartments today."

"Just checking. I just looked at one, but it was horrible. I'm on my way to the next one now. Do you want me to pick you up?"

"That would be nice. I'll wait outside the student centre."

"I'll be there in five minutes."

I hang up and make my way to the building I told Harry to meet me at. I never know how Harry is going to react to me giving up on an argument...sometimes he acts like it never happened and other times he just blows up and gets super pissed at me. He's kind of unpredictable, but I like that about him. Predictable is boring.

When Harry pulls up I climb into the truck and gives him a quick kiss on the lips. He smiles adoringly at me and starts to drive.

"I'm glad you decided to come."

"I never said I wasn't," I remind him as I put my feet up on the dashboard.

"You didn't say you were either. Feet down," he says playfully, knocking my feet off and wiping the spot they were in. He tells me about the disgusting first apartment that he went to as we drive back to the area where my building is. The one he pulls up to is across the street and a few buildings over. This area is all apartment buildings; it's a lot of student housing.

"Told you I would stay close," he says with a wink. We both climb out of the car and meet the realtor in the lobby.

"Harry?"

We both turn to the voice that just called his name. Of course. It's Andrea. I glance up at Harry as she walks towards us. He looks nervous.

"Hey, Andrea."

"I tried calling you! We haven't spoken all summer, I was hoping we could catch up!" She's annoyingly cheery and far too excited to see him. She finally notices my presence and gives me a judgemental once-over. "Hi, Lana. It's nice to see you. I love your shorts!"

"What are you doing here?" Harry asks suddenly. She turns her attention back to him.

"I live here, dummy. What are you doing here?"

"I was going to look at a place here."

Her face lights up at the news. "That would be so much fun! There are some great parties in here, let me tell you. It's so much fun."

"I'm not really into that anymore," he says flatly. I think he's trying to be uninterested for my benefit, but either way there is no way in hell he's living in the same building as her. It's so obvious that she's into him. I don't like it one bit.

"Sure you're not. Anyway, we should get some coffee one of these days. Catch up. It's been way too long." Is she seriously like asking him on a date right now? In front of me? It's bad enough that she knows intimate details of my life, I don't need her trying to steal my boyfriend too.

"Harry, we should really get going. We have an appointment." I take his hand in mine and start to pull him towards the elevator. "It was nice to see you," I say, waving at Andrea. He does the same and allows me to pull him into the elevator. I remove my hand from his once the doors are closed.

"So this place has a working elevator," he comments. "That's a bonus."

"The building is well taken care of," the realtor adds.

"It's also crawling with boyfriend stealing sluts," I mutter. Harry gives me a questioning look, probably because he didn't hear me. "So, Andrea seems nice." And by nice I mean the bitchy fake kind.

He shrugs. "I guess. She's into some crazy stuff. She tried to get me to go to parties almost every night last-" he stops short and takes his bottom lip between his teeth. Slowly his eyes meet mine and I slowly fold my arms. The doors slide open and the woman leads us to the door of the apartment. Well I was going to try and be supportive, but Andrea totally ruined that.

The place has two bedrooms, a newly renovated kitchen and a fireplace. I have to admit, it's a nice place. I'm sure someone that isn't Harry will be very happy here. Harry leads me by the hand through the apartment, looking through the rooms and inspecting the bathroom and kitchen thoroughly. I don't know why he's looking so hard. He cannot seriously be considering this place. When we're done he tells the woman that he'll keep it in mind and wants to see the next one. She's lined up two more tours for today, both within walking distance of my building so Harry and I take his truck back to ours so he can just park it there. When we're walking to the next place, Harry interlocks our fingers.

"What did you think of that one?"

"It was alright."

"You didn't like it?"

I shrug and keep my eyes trained in front of me. "It wasn't bad."

"The kitchen was incredible."

"It has two bedrooms. What do you need two bedrooms for?" That came out harsher than I intended.

"Having two might be nice." He holds the door open for me when we get to the building, Jane the realtor already waiting for us. "You really didn't like that one?" I shrug again and he takes a deep breath. Probably growing impatient with my negativity. This one better be nice, because I will scream if he wants to live in that other place. When we get to the sixth floor, she leads us down to the end of the hall. It's a corner unit, which means more windows and natural light. She opens the door for us and I almost consider moving when I see how nice it is.

Everything looks like it's been recently remodelled. The door opens into the living room, where the far wall is covered with gorgeous stone where the TV is mounted. The colours are very soft and warm and the right wall is floor to ceiling windows. It's breathtaking. To the left there's a dining area; it's small, but big enough for a small table. the kitchen comes next against the far left wall. It wraps around three walls with white lower cabinets. They're very sleek and modern with brown quartz countertops and sleek stainless steel appliances. Along the back wall there's a row of upper cabinets, all of which have glass doors that allow you to see the dishes sitting behind them. It's an incredible kitchen.

"This is gorgeous," I compliment, walking slowly through the area. Harry follows and we both stand and admire the kitchen. "I can totally see you cooking fantastic meals for me in here."

He chuckles but doesn't comment. I turn and walk down the hallway that opens between the living and dining area. Theres two doors to the right and one to the left. The first door on the right is the bathroom. It's quite modern and larger than I expected. It's large enough for a big soaker tub and walk in shower with glass walls and beautiful tiles. The vanity is modern but has a cozy cottage look to it, giving the space a nice amount of warmth.

"This is so nice!" I gush, walking in and inspecting everything. Harry watches me carefully the whole time, still not saying anything. I step past him to the second door on the right, which is a bedroom. The walls are a very soft blue colour and it's nothing out of the ordinary. Unlike most apartments, it has windows on two walls instead of one. It's got a great amount of natural light.

"This is the guest, the one across the hall is the master," Jane says, pointing to the other door. Harry doesn't seem too invested, so I take the lead and push open the door. The other bedroom wasn't furnished, but this one is and it makes me hate my room. The far wall is covered in rustic old brick that gives the modern design a vintage feel. The gorgeous hardwood floors that were in the main living space have been carried into this room. The colours are very warm and inviting. The bed is modern and luxurious, pointing towards a beatiful low dresser with granite counter. The wall the the left of the door is one massive storage unit and the window on the opposite wall is huge and adorned with drapes that complete the room very well.

"Harry, if you don't get this place I will," I whisper.

"You like it?" he asks, snaking his arms around my waist. I nod my head in response and turn in his arms to face him.

"Can you afford a place like this?"

"It's nice but it's quite small, so it's affordable."

The realtor pipes in. "The rent in this building is generally quite low because of the location. It's rare to find a place that's been redone to this extent in this area for this price. It's a great opportunity. They're looking for renters now, but they asked me to only show it to people that could eventually want to buy it from them."

"Harry, this place is fantastic. I think you should get it."

"You like it that much?"

"Yes. Plus, there's no slutty ex girlfriends here."

He smirks and shakes his head at me. "I knew that's why you didn't like the other place. This one is way nicer anyway."

"So you like it?"

"Why wouldn't I?"

'You've just been awfully quiet."

"I was watching you. You were in awe every time you got to a new room. It was amusing." He laughs while I roll my eyes. "You really like it?"

"Yes. But it doesn't really matter if I like it. You're the one living here, you have to like it."

"It does matter if you like it," he counters. "You'll be spending lots of time here."

"Do you see this place? Ours is a dump compared to this. Trust me, we'll all be spending a lot of time here."

He laughs and we walk back out into the main area where Jane is waiting for us. "Well?"

"I'll take it," Harry says, tucking me under his arm. "How soon can I move in?"

"It's available at the end of the month. You should be able to start moving in on the second or third of October. I'll get the paperwork together and call you tomorrow to set up a time to sign everything. You'll need to pay the first and last month's rent of the lease. I'll send you the information."

"Great, thank you." Harry and I walk back to our building and up to his place. When we get there Niall, Louis, Eleanor, and Mia are all sitting in the living room together.

"Oh my gosh, you guys should see Harry's new place!" I squeal, running over to El and sitting on her lap. "It's insane. It's so nice."

"New place?" Louis asks. The confusion in his tone is somewhat surprising. Everyone turns to look at Harry, who is narrowing his eyes at me.

"Thank you for that," he says sarcastically. I smile apologetically. Apparently he didn't tell the guys yet.

"You're moving out?" Niall asks.

"Umm, yeah. In a few weeks."

"Since when?" Louis asks. "You live here."

"No, you guys live here. I pay rent, yes, but it's not really my place. Plus I kind of want to be on my own."

It's uncomfortably quiet for a minute while Lou and Niall take in the new information. After that they both shrug and say they want him to stay but he can do as he pleases. They're too easygoing sometimes. If El told me she was moving out I would kick her ass and lock her in her room.

"Mia, how was your summer?" I ask, squeezing onto the couch between El and Lou. They both raise their eyebrows at me in question. "Oh, relax, you can go five minutes without fondling each other."

Mia laughs as she responds to my question. "It was great. Really busy, though. I didn't do a lot of relaxing."

"What did you do?"

"I was teaching dance classes. A lot of them. And my dad owns a restaurant, so I was helping out in there too. I never get excited for school, but my summer is busier than my school year so I was so ready to come back."

"Plus Niall is here," I tease, eyeing them both. Mia's cheeks go a light shade of pink. Niall shakes his head at me and winks at her. They're so cute. "Well, I need to go downstairs and take a shower. See you guys later."

Harry's POV

"I'll come by later," I tell Lana as she slides her boots back on. "Do you want to do something tonight?"

"Nah, I don't really feel like it. Let's just watch a movie or something." I nod in agreement and she gives me a quick kiss before heading out the door. Louis comes into the kitchen while I'm preparing a sandwich for myself.

"So you're really moving?"

"Yeah."

"Why?"

"I just am." I shrug.

"Do you not want to live here 'cuz of Niall?"

I look back to the living room and pull Louis to the corner of the kitchen, farther away from everyone. "Look, I'll tell you but you need to promise that you won't say anything to anyone. Not even Eleanor."

He gives me a confused look. "Okay..."

"Niall isn't the reason I'm moving. There's something else."
