Apocalyptic Love

Harry’s POV

My eyes fluttered open and the light flooded my eyes. I put my arms in the air and let out a huge stretch. I look around me and take in my surroundings. Louis was driving, looking tired as ever. Zayn was in the passenger seat with his face up against the window. Liam was sitting in the far left with Kylie in the car seat next to him. In the back Lia was laying down across the entire row with a pillow and sleeping bag. She had dried tears on her face and she looked really tired.

“Louis, do you want me to drive now?” I asked sleepily.

“Could you?” He asked even more sleepily than I was.

“Yeah of course.”

“Thanks mate.” He said as he pulled over. I quietly opned and closed my door and stepped into the driver’s seat.

As soon as Louis sat down he literally fell asleep. I’m not even kidding. I didn’t blame him. He’s been up ever since that eventful night.

I drove through the empty streets, concentrating on the road. I kept my eyes wide open for anything out of the ordinary. I glanced at my watch out of habit. I know that the time was wrong, I just am so used to glancing at the time.

I looked in my mirror and I see Liam waking up. He stretched his arms and smiles at me through the mirror.

“Good morning.” He said groggily.

“Good morning.” I said happily. “Are you hungry?”

“Nope I’m good.” He said. Liam leaned in and whispered in my ear. “Do you know how Lia’s doing?”

“No I don’t know. She’s been sleeping a while, she’ll probably be up soon though.” I whispered back. Liam nodded and started stroking Kylie’s hair.

I honestly think that Liam is Kylie’s long lost brother. He had so much chemistry with her and he was like the best father-like-figure. He took such good care at her and they were practically inseparable. They were like best friends that have known each other for their whole life.

Soon enough Zayn woke up. He glanced over at me and smiled.

“Is everyone awake?” He asked.

“No Louis and Lia are asleep.” I said.

“Speaking of Lia.” Zayn whispered.

“She’ll be awake soon and we’ll find out then.” I interrupted him. He nodded with a sad expression on his face.

I focused on the road before me, not thinking about anything. I didn’t really want to think about anything. The only thing I wanted to think about was when Louis and Lia would get up so that we could stop in the woods somewhere to eat some breakfast.

Soon enough after about only an hour of sleep, Louis wakes up from his slumber. I felt bad for him, only getting an hour of sleep in all, but he’s probably used to it by now.

“I’m hungry.” Louis loudly complained.

“Shhh.” Liam said. “Lia’s still sleeping. When she gets up we’ll stop somewhere in the woods and we’ll get some food from the trunk and eat there.” Louis nodded.

“You want to hear a funny joke?” Louis asked. He started talking before waiting for a reply. “Why did the golfer carry around two shirts? Just in case he got a hole in one!” Louis laughed really loud. Nobody else did.

I glanced in the mirror to see Lia arouse from her sleep. She sat up and looked around her, as if she had no clue where she was. Everyone noticed she was awake and said good morning to her. She just nodded.

“We’re going to have some breakfast? Is that okay?” I asked. She nodded. I looked on my left at the seemingly endless woods and pulled over when I found a little open patch.

I hopped out of the car and opened the trunk. I pulled out some dried fruit and canned peaches. I also grabbed the can opener, a few small bowls, and forks.

We walked a few minutes into the woods until we found a small clearing surrounded by trees. We sat in a circle and I passed everyone a fork. I opened the can of peaches and put them in a bowl. I put the dried cherries in a bowl also. I passed the bowl around and everyone grabbed one and everyone grabbed one with their fork.

As I munched on a couple dried cherries I noticed that Lia didn’t eat anything. She just assed the bowl. I mean, she ought to be hungry. We haven’t eaten in two days. I walked over and sat next to her. I offered her a cherry. She just shook her head and looked down.

“Are you okay?” I asked her. She nodded.

“Are you sure?” I asked again. She nodded.

“Why are you not speaking to me?” I asked angrily.

“I am.” She said plainly.

“No you’re not.”

“Is this enough talking for you?!” She yelled. I was kind of shocked. I was just trying to make her feel better and trying to get her to talk to someone. I just wanted to help her. Everybody was staring at us now.

“Sorry.” Lia mumbled as she ran off. I ran off after her. She was crying and slumped down by a tree. Her knees were to her chest and her head was in her hands. I came up, sat down next to her, and put my arm around her.

“I’m so sorry.” Lia choked out in between sobs. I held her closer.

“Don’t be sorry. You didn’t do anything wrong.” I said.

“I’m just been so rude lately. All you guys want to do is be nice and I’m being such a.. such a… I don’t know.” She said.

“No. Don’t you dare say that. You have been through a hell of a lot and don’t you dare blame yourself.” I said as I held her hands and stared right into her eyes. She nodded.

“Thank you Harry.” She said quietly.

“You’re so welcome.” She smiled brightly.

We both got up and walked back to where the rest of the group was. They noticed we were back but tried their best not to notice.

Liam, being the father-like person he is, was trying to get Kylie to eat some peaches but she was not having it. I mentally laughed as Liam tried, and failed, repeatedly.

“Who wants to play tag?” Louis asked out of the blue.

“What?” Niall asked.

“Tag? Haven’t you ever played tag before?”

“Of course I have! But why would you play now?”

“Why would you play tag right now?”

“What’s tag?” Kylie asked.

“I’ll teach you.” Louis said as he grabbed Kylie’s hand. And for the next two hours, we spent being normal and doing normal things like playing tag.

And we felt like a perfect family.
