Diana

Chapter 4

“Amanda!! What the hell is wrong with you?” Harry’s voice boomed in the hallway as he walked towards Amanda who was standing near her locker. Everyone present around them had stopped their conversation and turned around to look at the drama that was about to unfold.

“Hi Harry.” Amanda said in a sweet voice, blinking her eyes in a flirty manner as she walked towards Harry.

“Why did you do it?” Harry demanded as he came face to face with Amanda.

“What?” Amanda asked innocently but it was clearly noticeable from the smirk she wore on her face, that she knew exactly what she did.

“Cut the shit, Amanda!! You know exactly what I am talking about!!”

“Are you talking about that newbie?” Amanda asked and then pretended to think. “Well, I just warned her to stay away from what is mine.”

“I am not yours. I never was and I will never be.” Harry said through his gritted teeth, earning a lot of gasps. Amanda was taken aback from his reply but pretended to ignore it.

“Harry, I don’t think you know what you are talking about. You are angry right now. So, why don’t you go home and cool down? We will talk later.” Amanda said and then turned around to walk away from him. But Harry grabbed her wrist and turned her around to face him.

“Pull one more stunt like you did today with Diana and I promise you that you will regret it a lot.” Harry warned.

“Ow,” Amanda whimpered. “Harry, you are hurting me.”

Harry’s eyes suddenly widened with the realisation of what he was doing. He seemed surprised to see that his control got lost in his anger. His hand immediately slipped away from her wrist.

“Just stay away from Diana.” Harry spoke before turning around and walking away, leaving Amanda, totally embarrassed and shocked. Never had Harry gone against her. Never he talked to her in that tone but today he did. He embarrassed her in front of everyone just because of that new girl.

“What are you all watching? The show is over!! Go away!!” Amanda yelled angrily at the people who stood around her, very quietly whispering things into each other’s ears. She was so damn angry at that moment that if Diana would have been in front of her, then she would have ripped her head off.

Harry slammed his car door shut and let his head fall on the steering wheel. He was angry, guilty, frustrated – probably feeling every possible emotion at that particular moment. He was not able to digest the fact that Amanda would do something like that. He knew all too well that Amanda was very possessive about him but he had no idea that she would go to such an extent. No matter how many times he tried to make her understand that they were nothing more than friends, Amanda would never give up. She would keep clinging to him like she was his girlfriend.

Harry pushed Amanda out of his mind and focused on Diana. She was his main priority right now. As much he was tempted to drive straight to her house and apologise to her, he knew that she won’t even open the door at him. He had thought that after yesterday, he could slowly try to know her but after what happened today, he was pretty sure that she won’t even look at him. He had no clue why it bothered him so much what happens to Diana. Maybe because she met him at the same place where he had met Alison. Maybe because Diana’s kind gestures, soft voice, shy nature reminded him of Alison. He didn’t know.

Harry let out a huge sigh, trying to figure out a way to solve his problems. He needed to think which the confined place of his car was preventing him to do. So he put his car key in the ignition and drove the only place when he found peace - the cliff.

Harry stood at the edge of the cliff, enjoying the cool breeze that hit his face every now and then. This was his favourite spot in the entire town. Every day, after listening to the useless chatter of Amanda, he wanted to have some time alone and somehow this place always managed to give him that, maybe, because this is the place where he finds himself closest to Alison, the only girl whom he ever loved. Alison had been suffering from cancer which was detected at the very last stage and at that time there was nothing that could have saved Alison’s life. She only had few months left with her and Harry did everything that was possible to keep her happy, to make sure that she enjoyed every moment of her life. But soon she died and somehow managed to take Harry’s soul and heart along with her. Harry was left broken, lost and he felt empty. He had loved Alison with everything but she was snatched away from him in a blink of eye. So, everyday Harry used to come to the cliff and sometimes used to talk to Alison, telling her about his day or sometimes used to just stand there and think about all the happy memories he had with her.

But today, for the first time, he wasn’t there for Alison, he was there for Diana. As soon as he thought about her, yesterday’s events came rushing to his mind. How Diana had slapped him, how beautiful she looked even when she was angry, how pink her cheeks had turned when she realised her mistake, how shy she was to talk to him, how often she kept fumbling her fingers. But today, he saw how sad and alone she felt and he was the one to be blamed for it. After all, it was because of him, Diana was insulted in front of everyone.

Harry stood at the edge of the cliff, trying to figure out a way to apologise to Diana but couldn’t come up with any idea. For the first time, his mind was completely blank. He finally decide to head back home since it started getting cold, even though it was two in the noon.

“I am home.” Harry said as her closed the front door of his house. As usual he went upstairs to his room, threw his bag on the floor and flopped himself on the bed. He simply stared at the ceiling, thousands thoughts racing at once in his mind.

He stood up and walked towards his window, which faced the front from where he could clearly see Diana’s house. Harry knew that at that time Jenna won’t be home, so probably this was the only time he could visit Diana and apologise, without making Jenna suspicious. His eyes fell on the window of the room facing the front which had it curtains open as he saw Diana walk past that window, with a bundle of books in her hands. Seeing her made a small smile appear on Harry’s face and at that moment he decided to just go to Diana’s house and apologise to her. So, he exited his room walked down the stairs in a hurry.

“Where are you going, Harry?” Gemma called from the living room.

“To Diana’s.” Harry replied.

“Why?”

“Umm.. We... we h-have some project work.” He lied.

“They gave you project on the first day?”

“Yeah.. I have to go. Bye.” Harry said and quickly went out of the door before Gemma could ask him anything else.
