Diana

Chapter 5

“I am coming.” Diana yelled as she ran down the stairs to see who was ringing the doorbell like a lunatic.

The bell rang again.

“Don’t you have patience? I said- “ Diana spoke as soon as she opened the door, but was cut short as she saw that the person standing on the door was Harry. She gave him a glare and quickly shut the door on his face or at least that was her plan before Harry stuck his foot in between, making it impossible for Diana to close the door.

“You have got to be kidding me.” Diana muttered under her breath as she applied more force on the door to shut it but ended up failing miserably.

“Diana just listen to me once.” Harry pleaded from the other side of the door.

“I don’t want to hear anything, Harry. Just leave me alone.” Diana replied.

“Just open the door, Diana.”

“No.”

“You are making this difficult for yourself. I am not going anywhere until you hear me out.”

“Just go away.”

“You asked for it.” Harry said as he gave the door a slight push, making Diana lose her balance and falling on the floor with a thud.

“Sorry.” Harry said sheepishly when he saw Diana on the floor and quickly offered his hand.

“You can’t forcefully enter someone’s house. I will go to the sheriff.” Diana said as she got up from the ground giving Harry a hard glare who in return looked at Diana in disbelief.

“Seriously? Do I look like a bloody criminal to you?” Harry asked trying to hide his laugh.

“Absolutely.” Diana muttered under her breath and turned around to walk to the kitchen with Harry following her.

“I really need to talk to you about what happened today.” Harry said.

“I don’t want to talk to you Harry. How should I make you understand that?” Diana asked and when she received no reply from Harry, she sighed and sat down on a chair.

“Look I understand that I am right now not on your favourite list but trust me Diana, I had no idea that Amanda would pull out something like that.” Harry spoke as he took the seat straight across Diana’s.

“Even if you had an idea about what she was going to do, you wouldn’t stop her. After all she is your girlfriend and seriously Harry I don’t want to talk about anything to you because I am pretty sure that the moment you step out of this house, nothing will be able to stop you from telling your friends about what a looser I am. So, thanks but I really don’t have anything to say and if you are done talking then you may leave.”

Diana got up from her seat and headed towards the kitchen door but before she could even take two steps, she felt a strong grip on her wrist and was yanked around to face Harry, a very angry looking Harry.

“Do I actually strike you as a person who will try to hurt you?” He asked in a very low, angry voice, making shivers run down Diana’s spine. As her eyes met Harry’s, she could easily tell that he was beyond angry. Now Diana was scared. She slowly started backing slowly, trying to create as much distance as possible between her and Harry but that seemed impossible to do and Harry moved towards her until she found herself trapped between Harry and the kitchen counter.

“I am sorry, Harry. I didn’t mean it that way. I am really very sorry.”Diana blurted, praying to God that Harry would calm down and as if the God was actually listening to her, she saw that Harry had actually started to calm down. Soon, all the anger disappeared from his face which was now filled with guilt, making Diana wonder if he had some double personality disorder.

“I am sorry. I- I –shit.” Harry mumbled as her ran his hand through his hair, frustration clearly evident on his face.

“I didn’t mean to get that angry. I am sorry, Diana.”Harry spoke as his eyes started down at Diana’s.

“It’s alright. I- I was pretty rude to you to. I am sorry too.”Diana spoke as she smiled softly making a small smile appear on Harry’s face.

“And for the record, Amanda is not my girlfriend. She’s just… just…” Harry trailed off not knowing how to finish his sentence. He had known Amanda for five years now and Diana for hardly on day and still the girl standing in front of him seemed thousand times more important than anyone else to him.

“Annoying?”Diana guessed making a Harry let out a chuckle.

They both just stood there looking into each other’s eyes which looked exactly alike. Diana was still trapped between Harry and the counter and was now very well aware of how close Harry was standing to her and somehow loved how pleasant it felt to feel the heat radiate from his body.

They both jumped when they heard someone clear their throat.

Harry took a few steps back, instantly making Diana crave for his warmth. Harry looked around and saw Jenna leaning against the doorframe. Diana couldn’t help but notice the prominent smirk on her face. She was absolutely sure that Jenna is going to say something that will sure as hell embarrass her.

“I am really sorry, but I was very thirsty and in immediate need of water. Otherwise I wouldn’t have disturbed you two.”Jenna said as she made her way to the fridge.

“We weren’t doing anything Jenna.” Diana saidwanting to run to Jenna and clamp her hand over her mouth so that she couldn’t utter a single word and end up embarrassing her in front of Harry.

“Yeah, we weren’t doing anything.” Harry repeated Diana’s words.

“What? Are you two no longer going to pretend that you two are unconditionally in love with each other?” Jenna asked making Diana red with embarrassment.

“Harry was just leaving, right Harry?” Diana asked Harry, plastering a fake smile on her face hoping that he will understand what she is trying to say.

“Was I?” Harry asked not getting a hint making Diana literally want to face palm herself. How can he be so dumb and clueless?

“Well, I am going to get fresh meanwhile you two can continue whatever you guys were doing.” Jenna said with a wink.
“Oh! Please don’t do anything on that counter. I make food over there.” With that Jenna dashed out of the kitchen knowing if she stayed there longer that Diana would really kill her.

Diana and Harry just stood there in awkward silence. Diana was still under stock and stared with disbelief and her mouth hanging open staring at the place where Jenna was standing few seconds ago. Harry turned to face her with a raised eyebrow, a smirk evident on his face.

“Well, that was totally not awkward.” Harry said with a chuckle.

“I- I am … I really don’t know what to say. I never knew she was this crazy.” Diana spoke mostly to herself.

“Well, I guess I should leave.” Harry said and Diana just nodded not knowing what else to say.

“So, can we please get rid of your ignoring Harry mood?” Harry pleaded and Diana just shrugged.

“I will take that as a yes then.” Harry said. All he wanted to do at that moment was to pull Diana towards him and kiss her soft plum lips but he knew that the moment he would do that, Diana will push him far away. So he just waved at her, receiving one in return and walked towards his house.

Diana turned around towards her house, walked inside, closed the door and locked it properly. She quickly walked upstairs and straightaway went to Jenna’s room. She looked around but the room was empty and she figured out that Jenna was still in the bathroom. Diana sighed and sat one end of the bed, her face in her palms. She didn’t look up when she heard the door open not even when she felt the bed beside her dip indicating that Jenna was sitting next to her.

“What happened Diana?” Jenna asked.”

“It was really, really embarrassing what you did back there Jenna. How am I going to face him tomorrow at school?” Diana spoke, still not raising her head.

“Don’t worry about it. Harry is used to all these embarrassing moments. It won’t be awkward at all when you meet him tomorrow. I used to teach him and Alison all the time.” Jenna said but the last part was only a whisper.

“Who is Alison?” Diana asked as she finally raised her head.

“She was Harry’s girlfriend.”

“Was?”

“She died few months ago. She had cancer.” Jenna said softy. “She was a great person a kind hearted girl, pretty much like you, always shy, and quiet but she had Harry wrapped around her finger. Harry loved her unconditionally and she loved him back with same passion.”

Jenna continued after sometime.

“When she found out that she had cancer it was almost at the last stage and there was nothing doctor could do to save her. They told her she had only few weeks left with her. Harry was by her side all the time. There was not a single moment when he left her, always took care of her, made sure she got whatever she wanted. She was suffering from the pain but the smile that was always on her face was the most genuine smile I had ever seen. She was happy because of all the things that Harry was doing for her. When she died, she still had that smile on her face but she took Harry along with her. He was lost, broken for months, always sitting by the edge of the cliff staring at the sky. It took him months before finally stated recovering and I know he is still broken but he is trying to heal himself.”

Diana just sat there. She felt bad for Harry and terrible at her own behaviour towards him but the thing that struck her the most was the fact how much Harry loved Alison. She always thought that such type of love was only real as long as it was in movies or book but in real life, she never had even thought about its existence.

“Diana?”

Diana looked up at Jenna who was looking at her with confusion.

“Yeah?”

“What do you want for dinner.” Jenna asked.

“I am not really hungry right now. I think I will just skip it.” Diana said.

“Alright but I will save something for you and keep it in fridge in case you feel hungry at night.” Jenna said as she walked downstairs.

Diana got up from the bed and walked out of Jena’s room. She stood at the end of the stairs and heard the TV being turned on and she was assured that Jenna would be able to keep herself entertained which made her feel less guilty. She walked to her room and opened the window and sat on the window sill, shivering as the cold night air blew past her.

Diana had everything that a girl wanted but she didn’t want any of them. She just wanted one thing; to be loved by her parents. For that she would have left everything behind her. All her life she was waiting for a moment when her parents would look at her and say that they love her, say that they are proud of her but she never got that moment. She waited and waited for someone to pull her for a warm hug, kiss her forehead and assure her that she is loved but all she ever received was with a cold shoulder. Diana was slowly turning into her parents; she had started ignoring people, maintaining her distance from others. She was becoming a cold hearted person just like them and she was sure if Jenna hadn’t interfered when she did then Diana would have definitely lost her sanity.

Coming to Silvercoast taught Diana that there were people who cared, who loved her. Jenna loved her like her own daughter. She met Harry, whose existence would have been unknown to her if she hadn’t come to Silvercoast. He stuck with her even when she tried to push him. It wasn’t necessary for him to come and apologise to her today, if he wanted he could have just ignored her but he didn’t.

Diana turned her head towards Harry’s house and was shocked to find him sitting at the window sill of his room just like her but she was more surprised when she noticed that he was looking at her and seemed as is he had been doing that for some time now. She quickly ducked inside and closed her window shut, not wanting to see him because she knew it would be pretty awkward between them. She mentally cursed Jenna for making her life more difficult but at the same time she found Jenna’s gesture to be loving. She sighed as she walked towards her bed and let herself lie on the bed, pulling the quilt over her. She closed her eyes hoping that from now on her life will become better.

Harry let out a huge sigh in defeat when he saw Diana quickly duck inside her room.

“Will, every stop trying to push her away from me?” Harry mumbled. “She looks awfully like you Ali. Her small smile, her shy nature, her soft voice, everything reminds me about you but at the same time she is different and there is something that draws me towards her. ”

Harry paused staring at the cloudy sky, not being able to see a single star above.

“I know I promised you Ali that I will find someone and fall in love again but it is hard or at least it was. I couldn’t forget you so easily. How was I supposed to move on when I am still in love with you? But after meeting Diana, I feel different. It still hurts but it hurts less. Diana somehow makes the pain go away. I like her, Ali. Maybe I am a sucker for sweet, shy and innocent girls like you… like Diana.”
