Chapter 40
Just a side note, when I say Jessica has lost weight and is really skinny now, I mean she's like Victoria's Secret model skinny but with a little more ribs and hip bones showing. I don't mean like shrivling away anorexic. And her legs are like really thin, Kendall Jenner kind of legs; rather than curvy on the outer thigh like they used to be. She has also always had a thigh gap.
I checked my texts as I walked down the wide, long hallway to Eleanor and Louis' room. I had mostly texts from my sisters, which I replied to as I walked. I knocked on the door when I reached the room and was greeted by Perrie opening the door.
“Morning Jess” she said, giving me a hug, “I'm so happy you're finally back and we can hang out again”
I smiled and we walked into the room with her arm still around my shoulders.
“Jessica's here, are you nearly ready to go?” Kendall asked, popping her head into the bathroom to Eleanor.
“Yeah, just a minute” I heard Eleanor say.
Sure enough, approximately 60 seconds later, Eleanor emerges from the bathroom.
“Okay I'm ready. We just have to wait for–” she was interrupted by a knock on the door.
Since I was still standing beside the door, I pulled down the handle to see Liam and a brunette standing there, holding hands.
“Good morning Jess” he says, as I step back to allow him to enter the room.
The brunette smiles at me as she enters.
“Hi, you must be Sophia?” I half ask, half state.
“Oh sorry! Jessica this is Sophia, Sophia this is Jessica. And that's Kendall over there” Liam introduces, pointing at Kendall and I, distinguishing who's who.
“Hi Sophia!” Kendall waves, then goes back to her conversation with Eleanor.
“Well I better get going, I'm so glad you're back Jess” Liam said, opening his arms to hug me.
I returned his embrace and he brought his face close to my ear.
“Will you stay with her today, and make sure she's okay. Please” Liam whispers so only I can hear.
I nod and whisper “Will do” before we release our embrace and he goes to hug and kiss Sophia. I looked away so's not to make it awkward. After he left, everyone was ready to go and we headed for the elevator.
“So where are you from?” I ask Sophia, as we followed the other girls out of the hotel entrance.
“Wolverhampton in England” she said.
This was my first time hearing her delicate British accent.
“Oh, the same place as Liam?” I asked, recognizing the name.
“Yeah, we went to primary school together” she smiled.
“Aww, that's cool” I smiled back.
“Liam says you live in Los Angeles?” she asked, crinkling her brows a little.
“Yeah I moved there from Ireland a few years ago” I explained.
Sophia and I continued chatting as we walked down the street. Considering Perrie and Eleanor have told me that Sophia is quite difficult to talk to, she seems very out-going to me. They obviously haven't made much effort to talk to her. I now see what Liam meant when he said I'm the only one who will make her feel comfortable with the other girls. Come to think of it, I remember Eleanor, Perrie and Danielle being a little distant when Kendall and I first started hanging out with Niall and Harry. Maybe that's just how they act around new girls in the group: closed off and slightly unfriendly. But I know they'll come around to liking Sophia.
We shopped for a few hours and then decided to go and get some lunch. We decided on a cute restaurant which overlooked one of the many beautiful rivers surrounding the city. Eleanor and Sophia went to get a table while Perrie, Kendall and I went to use the ladies room. I was first to finish my business and was washing my hands when I realized now was the perfect time to take my.. medicine. I reached into my bag and pulled out one of the tablets, slipped it into my mouth and I managed to swallow it dry. When I looked up, Perrie was standing behind me about two meters away, looking at me in the mirror reflection.
“What did you just take Jessica?” Perrie asked, extremely concerned.
“Nothing, just some aspirin” I lied, quickly throwing the capsule pot back into my bag.
“No you didn't. Aspirin doesn't come in that kind of packaging. What did you take?” Perrie asked again.
My heart began to beat faster and she took a step closer to me. Kendall came out of a bathroom stall and could see what was about to happen.
“Perrie don't” she said, just as Perrie reached forward and grabbed my bag off the counter top.
She reached her hand into my bag and pulled out the little white container with a green label. She studied it for a moment before looking up at me, shocked, and almost angry.
“You're taking Garcinia Cambogia? Why the fuck are you taking diet pills? Is this what's made you lose so much weight all of a sudden?” Perrie questioned, still holding the capsule pot.
I swallowed the lump in my throat as I felt the tears gathering in my eyes. I didn't want anyone to find out, especially not like this. Kendall is the only person who knows I've been taking them. She's the only person I trust enough to tell that I'm taking them and why exactly I'm taking them.
"Perrie give it back please" I asked, sticking my hand out.
"No. Not until you tell me why you're taking fucking diet pills" she replied, clearly getting angry that I wasn't telling her.
I could feel more tears forming and I struggled to hold them from falling. I looked at Kendall, and she could see the desperation in my eyes.
“Okay that's enough Perrie” Kendall said, snatching the capsule container and my bag out of Perrie's hands.
Kendall threw the container into my bag and zipped it up before handing it back to me.
“Let's go Jess” she said, wrapping her arm around my waist and leading me out of the bathroom, leaving Perrie behind with a look of disappointment on her face.
