Chapter Seven
~Two Weeks Later~
"So H2O plus CO2 equals H2CO3?" Harry asked confused.
"Yes! That's actually right!" I high fived him.
"Yes!" He whisper-shouted.
We were in science again but we were experimenting with certain chemicals that Harry knew nothing about.
"And it's a chemical...." He trailed not knowing the answer.
"Equilibrium," I finished.
"I knew that! You didn't need to tell me," he mumbled sadly.
"Sorry," I fake apologised.
"Harry, stop!" He kept playing with the science goggles on my face.
"Mr. Styles, Ms. Hall. If you wouldn't you like to do tomorrows work in detention, I suggest that you stop horsing around, and mix your chemicals."
I blushed as the other students turned to us. I noticed one girl give me an evil eye and I looked away confused.
As I was pouring in a chemical, Harry bumped my hip causing me to spill some of it on the burner. Flames erupted for a split second and almost on my body.
Harry looked surprised and laughed with his mouth in an 'O' shape. I pushed his body and he barely moved since I was smaller than him. People stared again and the teacher shook her head at us. My ears turned red and I looked down while Harry kept smiling on.
I guess he liked the attention.
We walked out of the classroom in a big group and I headed to my locker. A boy started to walk beside me. I looked up at him awkwardly.
"Hey," I hesitated.
"Hey," he smiled at me.
His smile complimented his dyed blonde hair with brown streaks.
"So you're new here?" He asked.
I nodded.
"Well since you're new, and I'm new we should show each other around," he offered.
We made it to my locker and I entered my combination.
"Umm, I don't know about that," I hesitated while still putting in the combination.
My locker opened and I looked up at what was inside.
"What's wrong with me just being friendly?" He asked.
Wow, he doesn't give up soon does he?
"How do I know if your 'just being friendly' or you really just want to have sex with me?" I asked bluntly.
He chuckled and put his hands in his pockets looking down at his feet.
"At least let me walk you to class?" He reasoned.
I smiled at him after closing my locker. Before I could agree, a voice interrupted us.
"I can walk her to class," Harry intervened, putting emphasis on the 'I'.
"Sorry, mate. I didn't know you two were dating," he put his hands up like he was being arrested. He glanced at me in surprise.
"We're not! Lets go..." I trailed off.
"Austin," he told me.
"Lets go, Austin," I grabbed his arm giving Harry a look.
Harry had a sour look on his face. He squinted his eyes and lightly shook his head at me. Just because he could kiss good, didn't mean we were dating. He didn't own me. I could walk with whoever I wanted to. I could talk to whoever I wanted to. I didn't want to have to deal with another Johnny.
Austin walked me slowly and made small talk. He was a senior and apparently he knew Chanel because she was in his geometry class. He told me she flirted with him but stopped when she learned he was Australian. Chanel never really had a thing for Australians.
He walked me to English and he asked to walk with me to lunch which I agreed to. I lightly ruffled his hair as a goodbye and he laughed while shooing my hand away.
"He is mighty cute, Kris," Alex told me when I walked in and sat down.
He and Diamond got tired of arguing over how to pronounce my name and decided it was fine to call me Kris, instead.
"His name is Austin! That is such a hot name!" I fanned my face. Alex did the same, gushing over him like me.
"Hottest blonde I've seen this entire year!" Alex exclaimed.
"What the hell are you bitches talking about?" Diamond sat down in her usual seat.
"Over the new transfer. He's from Australia!" Alex expressed.
"When did everyone decide that this school was a great place to transfer to?" Diamond asked.
It was true. Chanel and I were only of the few students who had just moved to Holmes Chapel.
"What does Harry think about this 'Austin'?" Diamond asked.
"Not very happy," I said truthfully.
They both gave me a look.
"What?" I asked confused.
"You are so clueless. You know Harry likes you and you just start to hang out with a new hotty out of nowhere?"Alex told me frustratingly.
He was right. But Harry doesn't control me and if he thinks I'm that easy, then I need to make him work for me. I'm a prize, not a sock! I opened my mouth to speak but the teacher walked in with his suitcase. I could hear someone curse at her attendance.
"Damn. Three more minutes and then we could have left."
He was talking about our schools fifteen minute rule. If a teacher doesn't show up after fifteen minutes, the class was allowed to leave. I knew most of the class would go to an early lunch with the Sophomores rather than go home first. Since we were Juniors, most of us had no problem with the Sophomores. For some reason, we just didn't like the Freshmen. It was odd.
"Class I want you to open your journals and write a poem about a loved one. It could be your father, mother, brother, sister, even boyfriend or girlfriend. And for you shy ones, your crushes," Mr. Howard told us.
I thought about who to write about and started to point out the positives and negatives of each person.
Dad: rude, old, fucking jerk.
Johnny: egocentric douch-bag.
Mom: tall, beautiful, peaceful, and dead.
Chanel: well, she's my sister. No.
Harry: perfect.
