Samantha's POV:

"Why don't we switch partners?"

It took me a little while to digest that. Switch partners? Switch Niall with... what?

"WHAT?! NO WAY!" Louis and I said at the same time. We glared at each other before I turned to Emily.

"How the hell did you come up with that idea?" How could I let go of Niall? I... loved him? But, I had to admit, spending time with Louis might be exciting...

"Don't speak to my girlfriend like that," Louis growled, and I rolled my eyes.

"What are you going to do about it? And your ever-so-loyal 'girlfriend' thought of the idea of switching you?" I scoffed, not knowing where all this sudden bravery was coming from. "Are you sure I was worse?"

Louis stiffened up, his eyes with a dangerous glint but somewhere in it I could find a soft, warm feeling to blunt for me to decipher. He opened his mouth for a smart comeback but Niall interrupted him.

"Emily probably has a reason," Niall snapped, looking like he was ready to slap Louis.

"Well," Emily cleared her throat, looking nervous because all eyes were on her. "Niall seems pretty nice--" Niall blushed and I fought the urge to roll my eyes. Doesn't she have her own boyfriend? "--and after hearing Samantha talking about Louis--"

"Hold it," Louis said, raising his eyebrows. "You're gonna break up with me because Samantha talked shit about me? She could be lying, she could be--"

"I never said I was gonna break up with you," Emily said, "just switching partners. It doesn't have to be permanent."

"How long?" I asked, crossing my fingers. But then I realized that I didn't know if I wanted it to be long or short. Why am I so confused about my feelings?

"How about one week?" Emily suggested, and Niall nodded, not looking enthusiastic but not totally reluctant like Louis and me.

"Fine," I groaned. "Tomorrow. But first I need to talk with Niall."

We went out in the hallway. "Niall, promise me--" I started, but was cut off by his lips against mine.

"I'll still love you, no matter what," he promised, and I was satisfied.

* Next Day *

During breakfast, Emily and Niall explained the situation to the rest of the boys.

Louis stomped to his room, so I raced after him. "Louis, we're a 'couple' so get your fucking ass over here!" Saying I was pissed off was an understatement.

"What, I'm not allowed to go in my room, now?" He snapped, and I kicked his door out of frustration. Emily and Niall had tons to the extent of holding hands during breakfast and I was kicking doors? Great way to start the week.

"Fine. I'll fuck off." I gave the door one final kick before leaving the house. How did I ever survive being in a relationship with him? He was just a major asshole...

I started jogging to cool myself off. But soon, I heard Louis shouting, "Wait up!" I slowed down and gave him an annoyed look.

"Sorry," he panted, "let's start over." He gave me a fake smile. "I'm Louis and I'll be your 'partner'."

"So... what do you want to do?" I asked, walking along the street.

"Food!" He shouted, reminding me of Niall. And that's how we ended up in the food court in the mall.

For the rest of the day we were at least a foot away from each other, so we were more like friends than 'partners'. We went bowling, which I was pretty decent at. And by the end of the day, we started to attempt making jokes. At least it's progress. And after dinner, I collapsed onto bed and said out loud, "It really is tiring to be in a relationship with Louis." And then I fell into the black pit of sleep.
