Forever and Always

Emily

Samantha's POV:

I let the tears slip from my eyes and they dripped onto the kitchen counter, onto the magazine I had read. About Louis. Finding another girl. But as the sun sank lower, I reminded myself that I didn't care for him. I had Niall, now. And I loved him. Only him. But when I tried to convince myself of that, why did it feel so wrong?

They were coming home this night. I couldn't wait to see Niall. Of course we had texted and called and skyped, but seeing him in person would be way better. I hadn't seen him in four months or so.

I prepared myself a dinner of spaghetti, and while I ate I thought of the times with Louis two-now three- years ago. The fun, happy times without a care in the world. And how Niall never really talked to me. And then how Louis cheated, and the heartache that followed. And then word was spread that Louis and I had broke up so him with another girl was technically not cheating.

If I had broken up with Louis, why did I still live here? I turned to face the window that overlooked the woods, and as I placed my plate in the dishwasher, I could feel the eerie calmness of the forest. I wished that my relationship with the boys were like that sometimes, not so hectic. But then it'd be so boring...

The doorbell rang and I snapped out of my thoughts. I opened the door and instead of six waiting people, there were seven. Niall, Harry, Liam, Zayn, Miranda, Louis... and his girlfriend. From the magazine. But at least it wasn't the blond one he cheated on me twice for.

My heart shattered into a million pieces as Louis took her hand, whispering something in her ear. The raging fire of jealousy roared in me, and I thought, 'if you want to play it that way, then it's on.' I stood so close to Niall that there was barely a space between us. I grabbed his hand, intertwining our fingers. He seemed a bit surprised at my sudden actions but he smiled the charming smile of his. I smirked as Louis tightened his grip on the girl's hand, his veins nearly popping out of his skin.

All through dinner they laughed and talked while I stood on the sidelines because I had already ate. That was my excuse, and even though I did, that wasn't the main reason. I just didn't want to engage in a conversation with anyone.

So when Niall asked me, "Are you alright? You've been quiet all evening," I nodded. He was such a sweet boyfriend, and I tried to show him off to the girl, the silent message screaming, "I have a better boyfriend!"

The girl looked pretty; fair skin with a smooth complexion, pink lips, rosy cheeks, and light brown hair guarding her face. I was slightly jealous of her looks, but I said slightly. I mean, what do I care about being pretty?

Liam and Zayn disappeared into their bedrooms, saying that they wanted to talk to their girlfriends. Harry got Miranda to sleep in his bedroom, claiming that there were no more guest bedrooms. But really, there were a lot left unoccupied.

Louis, Niall, the girl, and I awkwardly shuffled our feet. I wanted to leave the room, but it would seem rude. I just gave everyone a half-smile but then the girl said, "Hi, I'm Emily." Well, she seemed fairly nice.

"Samantha." I held out my hand, and she shook it. I think I was a bit too formal, but I really didn't give a shit the way I acted to Emily.

"So, how did you two meet?" I asked, talking about Emily and Louis.

"Oh, you know, the basic thing. I spilled coffee on her, we exchanged numbers, all that stuff," Louis muttered, his eyes glued to the ground.

"You don't seem to excited," I smartly remarked, and he quickly shot his head up.

"Excuse me?" Louis snarled, and Emily and Niall took a step back. "Bitch, back off. Because you don't know anything about me."

"Oh, really?" I shot back. This was kind of like a ping-pong game, back and forth, back and forth. "I dated you for a long time. And you proved to be a motherfucking asshole for a boyfriend." I turned to Emily. "Sweetheart, if you know what's best for you, you better leave now. He's just gonna break your heart like he did to mine." I could feel the strong truth in my words.

Emily just stood there, stunned, while Louis leaned forward. "Maybe I cheated on you because you weren't good enough, huh? Ever thought of that?" Ouch. That stung. But I'm not going to show any weakness.

"Or maybe because you're a lame excuse for a boyfriend!" I shrieked, jabbing a finger at him. "You don't deserve anyone in your life, you pitiful excuse for a human. You don't--" I was cut off by Niall pulling me back.

Emily looked scared for a second, not knowing what to do. Then she snapped her fingers, and I could literally see the light bulb on top of her head light up.

"What's your brilliant idea?" I snapped, a bit annoyed.

She didn't even look swayed at my rude behavior. "Why don't we switch partners?"
