Look After You

New Partner

*Cat’s POV*

I could see the anger radiating from Louis’ body before he huffed on inside the theatre. Honestly, at first I thought it was pretty funny until I realized why he was mad. He was offended by Harry’s actions and though my laughter died, I still had a sad smile on my face. I watched as Zayn smacked Harry’s arm like he was an idiot and Harry threw his hands up in the air like he wasn’t sure what Louis’ problem was.

Ah, if only they knew.

I was about to follow in, but I felt my phone start vibrating in my pocket. I looked around, seeing how there were a crowd of people. There was only one other person I ever talked to. I sighed at the theatre before falling back into the crowd, walking down the street and answering the phone. “Agent Harvard.” I heard Morgan’s voice through the phone.

Yes, my new identity required my name to be Lacy Jenna Harvard. Ugh, I hated it, but it worked. It took over a month for me to even start to get used to the name. “Morgan.” I acknowledge. “What’s new on the agenda?”

I fell into the crowd, walking down the street. “There’s somewhere I need you to be.”

“You know I can’t leave him out of my sight.” I hissed through the phone as I kept the theatre doors in my sight as I got out of the moving crowd to rest against on a building in a tight alleyway.

“We’re excusing you from your mission for a short while.”

I blinked. This was unusual. Morgan was the one that made sure I always kept Louis within hearing distance or sight. What could be so important? “Head south down the street. There will be a black car with a man wearing a brown trench coat and burette.”

I sighed, not having a choice. I knew Morgan knew where I was. I was on a cell phone. Not hard to track one of those. I walked down the street, seeing the man and car. “I see him.” I said.

I watched as the man reached up at his ear and nodding slightly. He got into the driver’s seat. “Get into the back seat behind him.” Morgan instructed.

I got to the car, opening the back door and climbing in. I looked to my right, seeing a male smiling at me. “Hello.” His accent was not British. In fact, it was American. How long has it been since I heard a live American accent besides my own and Morgan’s?

“Alright, Morgan.” I said. “You got thirty seconds to explain exactly what’s going on here.”

“His name is Colton Patterson. He’s 21 years old, IQ of 152. The boy is a genius.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah.” I rushed him. “I can care less about that. Why is he here?”

“He’s your new partner.”

I let the news sink in. “What? Why? I’ve been doing fine on my own.”

I felt the phone get taken out of my hand. The man spoke through it. “Don’t worry Agent Lee. I’ll fill her in on the rest… Yes, take care now.”

He hung up the phone, holding the phone back out to me. I took it from him, staring at him. The car has by far been moving for a while now. I couldn’t defy Morgan’s orders, since he was only source of communication through the CIA headquarters. “How do you feel about talking over coffee?” He asked, offering a smile.

I swallowed, not sure if I should trust this guy. “Relax.” He said. “Like Agent Lee said. I’m your partner. I’ll explain everything through a cup of hot liquid. It’s pretty cold in London compared to the states.”

He started speaking to the driver, giving him directions. I couldn’t relax to save my life. What in the hell was going on here? I didn’t like not being near Louis. It was slightly nerve-wracking. For a year I kept myself close, yet far. I didn’t like not having him in my sight.

I let out a slow breath. He was at the movies. He should be fine for a few hours at least. I would be back before then. I looked at the man beside me, who just had an arm resting on the door, staring out the window. He caught me staring, looking back over to me, and offered a cheeky smile. “Hey, yo, Steve. Turn on the radio for me.”

I saw the driver in front of me shake his head in disbelief as he pressed the button to the radio. I listened to the radio, the music feeling my ears. I could hear Colton singing softly next to me. I could already tell he had a huge obsession with the radio.

I closed my eyes as I rested my head back on the headrest of the seat. Damn it, Morgan, what do you think you are getting me into?
