End of the Day

1

"Great! Of all times!" She yelled as her car stalled on the side of the highway. She hit the steering wheel out of anger and frustration. She climbed from the car and saw that her engine was smoking. She groaned loudly and ran a hand through her hair. She climbed back into the car. It was too dangerous to be standing on the side of the highway. Jaela dug through her purse to find her phone. She hated that getting her car to the shop couldn't wait until the end of the week. She needed to be on time everyday for the rest of the week. She'd gotten lucky that morning getting the car to start. She grew even more pissed off because she thought the universe was out to get her with the damn car.
Jaela got out of her car to talk to the man driving the tow truck. She grimaced at the sight of him. He was a large man, that didn't bother her. What bothered her was he was covered in grime and he wasn't exactly fitting into his shirt. He was that stereotypical vision of a gross mechanic. She sighed and shook the thoughts from her head. It was wrong of her to think that way. He could be the nicest man she'd ever meet.
"Hey there sweet thing." The man smiled at her. His tone indicated that he was probably going to be a pig as did the smirk. "How are you?" He asked with a gentle tone.
"I'd be better if the car didn't crap out on me." Jaela grunted, looking at her old broken down Impala.
"Well, we'll get you back to the shop and have it fixed in no time." The man smiled at her. She nodded slowly with a shy smile. "You can go hop in while I get this on the back of the truck." He stated kindly. Jaela nodded and walked to the passenger side of the tow truck. She carefully climbed inside when it was safe to open the door.
"Alright, here we are." Wes grinned at Jaela as he pulled into the garage lot. Jaela smiled politely and gathered her purse and jacket from the seat. Before she could reach the door handle, Wes had already gotten out and opened the door for her.
"Thank you, Wes." Jaela's tone held genuine appreciation.
"If you go into the office and have a seat, we can check out the car and see what's wrong with it. Then your mechanic will give you an estimate." Wes informed her. Jaela thanked him again then stalked off to the office where she was greeted by a sweet elderly lady. Jaela took a seat with the woman and they started to discuss the car. It wasn't too much longer before they were interrupted by the door opening.
Jaela's jaw dropped a bit and her mouth went dry. Her heart raced in her chest as she looked at the mechanic standing in the door way. He was amazingly attractive. His hair was dark and from the looks of it, it had been styled at the beginning of the day. But now a few strands fell across his forehead. His face had small smudges of oil and engine grease. He also had perfect, muscled arms and even though he had a shirt on, she could tell that his chest and abs were chisled. Jaela blushed when she realized that the mechanic had noticed that she was staring at him in awe. He blushed as well, dropping his eyes for a moment.
"Hi. Sorry." He murmured to Jaela. The mechanic looked to the elderly lady, "Suzie, do you have the number for the impala owner? I found the problem on the car."
"She's sitting right there." Suzie chuckled and pointed to Jaela. Jaela and Liam made eye contact once again. Jaela felt a tingle in her spine seeing his warm, brown eyes staring into hers. "Oh right." He quickly tried to wipe his hands as much as possible as Jaela turned to him completely. "I'm Liam." He held his hand out to her politely.
"Jaela." She replied with a shy smile. His hands felt strong and smooth even though they were obviously worn from his job. She also felt that small jolt of electricity. She was very attracted to the man in front of her.
"Well, uh..." Liam stammered a bit as he released her hand. He didn't want to let go of her. Her hand was soft and supple. She was warm, the way the movies and books always described a woman to be. "I found what was wrong with your car." Liam stated quietly. He didn't know why he was so shy all of a sudden. "Um, there is a crack in your oil well and there is some damage to your radiator. I actaully don't know how that thing has been running." Liam informed her. Jaela groaned softly and sat down again. Her stress level rising. "It'll be about a week to do all of the work. I'll start on it in the morning. And Suzie can work out payments with you for it."
Jaela groaned again, "I'm not worried about the money. I'm worried about not having my car."
"Right. Understandable. There's a rental place not to far from here. They have great choices and they are flexible with their rental schedules." Liam said, trying to be helpful. "They're closed now but..." Liam slapped himself mentally for the suggestion.
"Thank you, Liam." Jaela smiled, knowing he meant to be helpful. "Do you guys know of a good cab company?" Jaela asked, mostly asking Suzie. Liam sighed and rounded the desk to write down the information for the car on the file.
"You live uptown a bit?" Liam asked, looking up at Jaela. She nodded shyly, not sure how he knew. "Your address is on your file." He chuckled, seeing her worry. "I'm done for the night. I can drive you home. I don't live that far from there...I mean, if you don't want to wait for a cab." Liam offered sweetly. Jaela's heart jumped a bit.
"Actually, that would be nice." Jaela responded quietly. She didn't want to appear overly eager to be with Liam. He was the God of mechanics in her eyes.
Liam flashed her a dazzling smile, "Just let me wash up a bit." Jaela nodded as Liam nearly bolted from the office.
Liam and Jaela sat silently in the truck as he drove her toward her home. He tapped his fingers on the steering wheel to the music while Jaela stared out the window, trying not to let her mind fill with thoughts of the mechanic next to her.
"Don't stress to much. I'll try to have your car fixed as soon as possible. I think we have all the parts at the shop." Liam spoke gently, trying to soothe Jaela. She looked at him and nodded, a shy smile gracing her lips. Jaela felt her cheeks turn pink when she looked at Liam's muscled arms and chest. She peeked at his hands again, loving how strong they appeared. She bit her lip when she glanced up at his face. He ran a hand through his hair trying to push the fallen pieces back into place. She wondered what it would feel like to do that for him. Jaela cleared her throat quietly when Liam caught her looking at him. "Do I still have engine grease on my face?" Liam asked, rubbing his cheek with his palm. Jaela nodded slowly. "Damn. Stuff never comes off." Liam grunted. Jaela moved over in the seat just a bit, getting closer to Liam. She lifted her hand and gently swiped her thumb over his skin. He was so warm and the texture of the stubble on his face made her weak in the knees. She wanted so badly for the man next to her to find her as attractive as she found him.
"There. All gone." Jaela grinned, removing her hand from Liam's face. She successfully removed the grease from his cheek.
Liam blushed, "Thanks. I guess I just needed a woman's touch." Jaela gave a single nod. She slowly slid back toward the door of the truck. She knew that the lusty waves of heat were rolling off of her now. She could tell by the way Liam's skin had flushed when she touched his cheek. As much as she wanted to stay close to him, she knew it was better to back off. Jaela crossed her legs tightly; she could feel the tension in her thighs caused by Liam's intense eyes. "This is my place." Jaela peeped when she saw her apartment building.
Liam quickly pulled off the road into the drive of the apartment complex. He followed Jaela's directions to her building. He stopped in front of one of the nicest buildings in the complex. Liam smiled warmly at Jaela as he put the truck in park. Jaela smiled back at him. She really wanted to invite him up, offer him a beer and see what would happen but it was a terrible idea. He was the man in charge of fixing her vehicle.
"I'll have Suzie call you tomorrow, about midday. Let you know when I think your car will be finished." Liam informed her with a polite tone. He seemed a bit antsy as she opened the door.
"Thank you, Liam." She grinned, opening the door. She really wanted to ask him to come up to her apartment. "And than you for bringing me home. You really didn't have to." She blushed; of course he didn't have to. An invitation to her apartment was probably what he wanted, why he was looking at her the way he was.
"Oh you're welcome." Liam beamed at her. Invite him in, stupid, Jaela scolded herself.
"I'll see you soon?" Jaela asked hopping out of the truck.
Liam nodded, "Yeah." Jaela said another quiet goodbye before shutting the door to the truck. Liam waited for Jaela to get into her building before he pulled away.

Jaela entered her apartment with a sigh and threw her bag and keys on the table. She ran her hand through her hair and tried to decided how to deal with the next work day. Work from home? She could do that. Jaela grabbed her phone from her purse and dialed her boss. Tapping her fingers on the counter, she waited for her boss to answer.
"Hello?" The woman answered with a cheerful tone.
"Hi, Penny. It's Jaela." She spoke with the heavy tone she'd had since her car died.
"Honey, why do you sound so sad?" Penny sounded genuinely concerned.
Jaela sighed once again, "My car died on the way home. I had to get it towed to a shop. I don't have a way in tomorrow. Is it okay if I work from home?"
"Oh of course, sweetheart!" Penny laughed. "I trust you. Will you be working from home all week then?"
"No. Just tomorrow. I'm going to get a rental tomorrow and everything." Jaela explained.
"Okay. Have a productive day tomorrow. Good night." Jaela could hear the smile Penny wore in her voice.
"Good Night." Jaela replied quietly before hanging up and throwing her phone back on the counter. Jaela sighed once more and headed for the bathroom with her beer. She needed to relax in a hot bath and forget about the car. Jaela smirked a bit as she thought about the hunky mechanic that drove her home. Jaela shook her head at herself. She didn't need to be thinking about him already, but she knew that she couldn't wait to see him again.

I’m so glad you like it! I’ve rekindled my love for Liam as well. I’m loving writing this. I’m kind of tempted to try something a little more “real” with Liam. Niall is still my main man tho. ❤️

I'm in love with this story already. Your bringing back my love for Liam. I was on a Niall run for the longest time.
