Chapter 35

Chapter thirty-five

I was now officially leaving in a week and a half. My flight was booked, my school schedule ready, all that was left now was to say my goodbyes. Luckily though, those could wait for some time yet. I hadn’t told the lads yet, but I’d get around to it. A week and a half was still a fair amount of time, anything could happen.

For now, I was still accompanying them to all of their shows. They had one more show in Dallas tomorrow, and then we’d be moving on, yet again. Harry hopped in the shower as soon as we’d awoken so I went to find some breakfast. I ran into Louis in the hall.

“Oh hey, Louis,” I greeted him.

He smiled back, acting strange.

“You’re mighty chipper,” he said. “How did you sleep?”

I smiled at him, puzzled.

“Fine… you?” I responded hesitantly.

“Are you sure about that?” He asked again, ignoring what I’d just said. He gave a sassy flick of his neck as he took a sip of his tea.

“Positive,” I said, getting ready to leave him and whatever little game he was playing.

“Really?” He said, causing me to stay. “I didn’t think that the workout room would be accommodating for sleep.” He smirked into his cup.

I rolled my eyes. Clearly he’d caught Harry and I sleeping in the workout room after our special alone time.

“Well it turns out you’re wrong,” I replied haughtily.

“Well, in the future, maybe no more slumber parties in there? Some people like their early morning workouts.” He said, his tone infused with sass.

“Well you won’t have to worry about that soon,” I told him. He looked at me, puzzled, urging me to explain with his eyes. What the hell, I thought, he’d know sooner or later any way. “I’m going back to University in a week.”

His eyes widened and his mouth fell agape.

“Awe, love,” he said, drawing me into a hug. “But why?”

“They reopened my program. Might as well stay on schedule for graduation.”

“And Harry?” He asked tentatively.

I nodded.

“He knows,” I reassured him. “We discussed everything last night and we’re fine.”

“Everything?” He looked pointedly at my abdomen.

“Well, almost,” I laughed. “I want to be sure about that before I mention anything.”

Louis rolled his eyes and sighed, “That’s going to bite you in the ass.”

He turned theatrically and headed toward the exit.

I watched, as he left, no doubt out to the bus. He was right. But, as usual, I was choosing to ignore him. Besides, this didn’t feel like the last time I’d been pregnant. There was something off that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. All my thoughts dissipated, however, when I walked into the kitchen area and saw Lou eating her breakfast.

“Morning,” I said.

“Good morning,” she greeted me with a warm smile.

“That looks amazing,” I said, eying her bacon strips and scrambled eggs.

“Well there’s plenty,” Niall said, coming from seemingly out of nowhere and setting a plate in front of me.

“Thanks,” I smiled up at him. He smiled back and sat down across from Lou and I.

“So,” Lou started. “Day off in Dallas, huh?”

Niall nodded.

“Yup, I don’t even know where we’re going next,” he said around a mouthful of food.

I laughed at him.

“Swallow then talk, darling,” I teased him. He made a face at me before grinning sheepishly.

He took another bite and looked at me pointedly.

“Get used to it,” he said around another bite. I laughed and he winked at me.

“Trust me, I am,” I smiled.

Harry and Liam walked into the room at that moment. Harry sat down next to me, kissing my temple and putting his arm around my shoulders while Liam sat across from me beside Niall.

“So, Sarah,” Liam started. “I hear you’re leaving us.” He said making a sad puppy-dog face and always seemed to tug at my heartstrings. Zayn entered the room and sat down next to Liam as well.

“Oh you decided to go?” Zayn smiled at me.

I smiled back at him.

“You talked me into it,” I teased and he laughed.

“Love, we’re gonna miss you,” Liam said, making me feel bad again. I reached across the table to take his hand.

“Awe Liam, it won’t be forever,” I smiled warmly. “Trust me, I couldn’t keep away.”

“You better not!” He smiled at me.

I caught Niall looking around the table confusedly.

“Hold up,” he said. “What’s happening?”

“Sarah’s going back to uni,” Lou chirped in with a cheeky smile on her face. Niall’s gaze shot to hers before turning back to me. He looked like he was about to say something when Louis slapped Harry’s back and sat down next to him.

“What are we all chatting about?” He asked.

“Sarah’s going back to the UK!” Niall said in disbelief, hoping to surprise Louis. Much to his dismay, Louis did not look shocked.

“Yeah, she told me,” he said simply. Niall’s mouth flew open.

“Why am I the last to know?” He whined and we all laughed at him. “Seriously, it’s not funny!” He persisted.

“Don’t be silly,” I soothed him. “You’re just the last person I talked to.”

“Well when did they find out?” He went on.

“We talked about it at the restaurant.” Zayn said smugly and I smiled at him.

“Not important guys,” Harry broke in, looking slightly amused despite himself.

“Well I’m hurt,” Niall said, obviously joking now.

I laughed lightly.

“You shouldn’t be, you know I love you,” I winked at him pushing my dishes aside and getting up from the table. I looked down to Harry. “I’m going to go shower and get dressed, I’ll see you in a bit?”

He rubbed the small of my back and smiled up at me.

“You could have jumped in the shower with me,” he said, raising his eyebrows infinitesimally. I bit my lower lip and smiled at him.

“I wish I’d taken you up on that,” I leaned down and kissed him.

“Oh come on, guys,” Niall groaned. “I’m eating!” He complained, throwing a piece of bacon at us playfully.

“So sorry, Niall,” I laughed standing up. “Enjoy your breakfast.” I told him before turning back to Harry, “I’ll see you in a bit.” I said heading towards the door.

“I’ll come find you, I’ve got a surprise!” He called after me, I turned back to see him smiling. I was eager for our day together.

--

I stepped out of the shower and cloaked myself in a towel, the tiny bathroom on the bus all steamy and hot. I opened the cabinet to retrieve another towel, which I promptly twisted my hair into. Just as I was tucking stray hairs into the towel the door creaked open to reveal Harry’s brilliant face.

“Hey,” I smiled at him. He stepped into the small area, shutting the door behind him. This meant that we were impossibly close and he wrapped his arms tightly around me, holding me against his chest. His t-shirt became stained where my wet body came into contact with his.

“Hi,” he said, kissing the tip of my nose. “Good shower?”

“Was only missing you,” I smiled.

He grinned as he lifted me so that I could sit on the counter while he kissed me without restraint. All of a sudden, however, he stopped. I kept my eyes closed, a pout on my lips and a slight frown on my brow, and I leaned in, searching for him. He laughed lightly at me. His hands reached up to cup my breasts as he leaned in to whisper in my ear.

“It’s time for your surprise,” he breathed, sending shivers rippling down my spine.

“Oh?” I said, kissing his neck. “And what might that be?”

He pulled away, opening the door, which let in a cool breeze, and walked out.

“First you have to get dressed,” he said, clearly enjoying my confusion.

“Okay,” I said hesitantly. “What should I wear?”

“Whatever you want, I already packed a bag of things you’ll need.” He grinned at me, taking my hand and dragging me from the bathroom. “Now scoot! We don’t have all day!” He laughed, giving my ass a playful tap as I walked into our bedroom.

--

Twenty minutes later, I emerged clothed and ready.

“Harry?” I called out to the empty living room area.

“Sarah,” I heard him call from outside. “Come on out, love, we’ve got to get going!”

I stepped outside, curious as to why he was in such a rush.

“Is there a deadline I should know about?” I teased him. He rolled his eyes at me and took my hand, guiding me to an alleyway that was adjacent to the arena.

“Not that you need to worry about, but we’ve got to get going,” he repeated. He led me to a classic 68’ Corvette stingray in dark green and I couldn’t help but gasp at the beauty of such a car. The lines were slender and sleek, and even motionless the car looked fast.

“Harry!” I exclaimed. “Where the hell did you get this car?” I released his hand, trailing my fingertips over the flawless paint job.

“Do you remember when we were about twelve?” He asked suddenly and I looked at him in confusion. He smiled, “I told you that one day we would tour America in a classic muscle car.” He motioned with his hands towards the car as if he were a model on some lame game show and I couldn’t help but laugh.

“You’re unbelievable,” I said, dropping my bag and rushing into his arms. He set me back down after a moment.

“Now quick, get in,” he said, climbing into the driver’s seat.

“Only if I can drive it on the way back!” I bargained and he laughed, nodding in agreement as the car came to life.

“Of course, now hurry!”

I climbed in, throwing my bag at my feet as Harry threw the car into first gear and stepped on the gas. Once we were on the highway, he seemed to relax and really enjoy the car.

“So tell me,” I said. “Why are we in such a rush at,” I looked down at my phone, “ten thirty in the morning?”

He smiled, his dimples out in full force.

“Because we’re on a road trip.”

I looked at him sceptically.

“A road trip? When you have a show tomorrow afternoon?”

He nodded like an excited, giddy little schoolgirl.

“Yes, my love,” he smiled hugely.

“A road trip to where?” I persisted.

He smiled even wider, toying with me as I waited in anticipation.

“East Beach,” he finally said.

I stared at him, even more confused.

“In Texas?” I asked.

He nodded once again, sliding his arm around me as the road stretched on before us.

--

Only two hours into our four and a half hour journey, and the time was flying by. Harry and I were laughing and talking about anything and everything. It had been so long since conversation flowed like this between us that I was drunk off the experience. This afternoon with him was going to make it so much harder when I had to leave for home in a week and a half’s time. I’m sure that this was his secret ulterior motive in our little tryst, but I didn’t care. It was turning out to be the perfect day and it hadn’t even really started yet.

“It’s going to be so hard to leave after this,” I said, vocalizing my mindless musings.

“Then don’t,” Harry said simply, but rather seriously. I turned to look at him, reaching a hand to stroke the back of his neck and play with the curls that were being flattened against the seat.

“I have to,” I sighed.

“You really don’t,” he said, turning to look me in the eye. At that moment, I wanted to tell him everything. I wanted to tell him about my suspicions of the new life that we had possibly made, and I wanted to feel relieved, to finally have it off my chest. All of this must have been written on my face because Harry recognized something in my expression. “What is it?” He asked.
I smiled at him, leaning over to kiss the corner of his mouth. Today was not the day to bare my soul and ruin his plans, that could wait.

“Nothing.” I said, snuggling in to him and hugging his arm. I turned the radio up and we continued to let the miles slip away.

--

Completely out of character for me, I must have fallen asleep there curled up against Harry’s arm because in what seemed to be a matter of seconds, the car was parked and Harry was gently shaking me awake.

“Sarah,” he cooed. “Darling, we’re here.” He said, pushing hair away from my face. I looked around, my eyes heavy and blurry still. I frowned when I could not find any indication of a beach in front of us.

“Didn’t you say we were going to East Beach?” I asked him and he laughed gently.

“I most certainly did.”

I looked at him with one eyebrow arched.

“You do realize there’s no beach right?”

He laughed at me again, this time reaching behind him, and retrieving one of my bags, filled with things that he’d packed for me.

“I’m well aware, my dear,” he smiled. “We have to walk in but perhaps you’d like to get dressed first?”

He handed me the bag and I looked inside to find a brand new Hervé Léger cut out swimsuit. I’d never seen it before and was startled to see it in my bag.

“What’s this?” I asked dumbly.

“Your swimsuit, of course,” he smiled, knowing full well that he had genuinely surprised me again.

“Unless you have another girlfriend you’re not telling me about, this definitely isn’t mine,” I teased and he laughed again, getting out of the car, walking to my side and opening the door for me.

“The change room is there,” he pointed to a secluded little shack, “it’s most definitely yours.” He added, dragging me up from the car and pulling me into him, kissing my neck before finally reaching my lips. He smiled as he pulled away, keeping his eyes closed. “Now,” he said. “Go put it on. I’ve been dying to see you in it.” He raised his eyebrows, kissing me once quickly, and playfully tapped my ass as I turned away and began walking towards the change room he’d pointed out.

“Aren’t you coming?” I asked him. And I didn’t have to ask twice. He ran to catch up to me, but once we got to the shack, I decided to tease him a bit. “Wait here,” I said, biting down on my bottom lip. Harry simply smiled back at me, leaning against the doorframe as I closed it. I quickly donned the new suit and was stunned to see how perfectly it fit me. It was as if he’d had it designed specifically for me. I adjusted my boobs in it, making sure they looked as amazing as possible for him, and then stepped out and watched as his eyes popped and his mouth fell to the ground.

“Wow,” he stammered, his big hands reaching for me and wrapping completely around my hips, which I pushed into him slightly.

“Was it a good investment?” I asked him coyly.

“The best I’ve ever made,” he said, taking another appreciative glance before pressing his full lips to mine.

“Harry,” I breathed in the middle of our kiss.

“Mhmmm,” he mumbled against my lips, unwilling to break away.

“The beach?” I asked, knotting my fingers in his hair despite my words. I felt him smile against my mouth and eventually he pulled away.

“Shall we?” He asked, offering me his hand, which I readily accepted. He led me back across the parking lot to the mouth of a narrow trail that seemed to wind aimlessly in the woods for a good while. I was beginning to feel that there was no beach and this had all just been a sick joke, and was about to complain when my foot became entangled with an unearthed tree root. I quickly saw the ground approaching my face as I fell towards the ground when all of a sudden, I felt a pair of strong arms around me, lifting me back upright to safety.

“Watch where you walk, babe,” he teased and I playfully smacked him away. Not two minutes later, Harry’s big, clambering feet slid precariously from an exposed rock and his hands began flailing as he desperately tried to regain his balance. I clasped one of his wild hands in both of mine and exerted all my force to get him upright again, which I somehow skilfully managed. He looked at me sheepishly.

“Watch where you walk, babe,” I mocked him, and he pulled me close and ruffled my hair. We walked the rest of the way, which wasn’t too far, like that with his arm around my shoulders and mine around his waist. In a matter of moments, I could see the sunlight glistening against the water through the trees.

“Harry!” I squealed in excitement, breaking our hold on each other and running towards the sand that was cresting before us. Harry laughed gently behind me. I stopped at the edge of the beach, my feet just hitting the sand. I looked around and it was beautiful and serene; and empty, I though. I searched around for any sign of human life and found none but Harry. “You’d think East Beach would be a lot busier,” I mumbled as Harry reached me, entwining our hands. He rested the tip of his nose against my shoulder, tickling me with his stubble as he laughed.

“This isn’t the main beach,” he said as if I should have known that. “Hence the walk in?” He asked rhetorically, sassily raising his eyebrows and looking unbelievably sexy.

“So we’re all alone?” I asked, standing on my tiptoes as I threw my arms about his neck, my hands finding my favourite spot.

“Completely alone,” he nearly whispered. He suddenly bent his lips down to my ear, “ever had sex on a beach?”

I laughed to myself, recalling our first time together; on a beach.

“Once,” I teased, “with some guy.” I smiled and as he drew back I saw him smiling, too.

“Just some guy?” He asked quizzically pretending to look hurt, his hands slinking down to my hips, his thumb pressing into them and pulling them into him, however so slightly.

“Just some, amazing, breathtaking, sexy guy,” I said, my lips hovering above his until he claimed them, filling my mind with every sensation his hands could create against my skin. His large, strong hands firmly grasped my waist and assisted me into the sand, laying me on my back with our bodies only millimetres apart. He stared into my eyes while I breathed in the scent of him. He seemed to be taking in every inch, every facet of my face, while I got lost in his eyes and lips, which were beckoning to me.

“You’re so perfect,” he said, his words echoing my thoughts of him.

“I wish we could stay this way forever,” I sighed, kissing his bicep.

“So happily,” he kissed the tip of my nose. He was right, we were so happy.
