Hello, Darcy.

Lady Dilemma.

I played around with the waffles and eggs around my plate and heard Dad’s chewing. I didn’t bother looking up for my eyes fixed onto my plate.

“Not liking breakfast this morning?” Dad’s voice made me jolt a little in my seat, causing me to look up. I gave him a shy smile and brought a piece of the syrup waffles into my mouth. The food Dad made wasn’t that bad. He clearly was making progress, and I know he’s trying. But I just wasn’t feeling hungry.

“Not very tasty is it?” He smirked. I can hear the slight disappointment in his voice.

I shook my head and took another bite.

“Not bad, you’re making progress I see.” I laughed. A small laugh escaped from his mouth before he took a sip of his steaming cup of coffee.

“I’m really sorry if it’s horrible, we can hire a cook if you want…” He suggested. I shook my head and chuckled.

“Dad it’s fine, you don’t need to apologize.” I paused. “I get it, you’re new at this.”

“Maybe you can help or teach me?” He asked with hopeful eyes. I shook my head once again.

“I left it all to Mum,” I chuckled. Dad chuckled along with me. Although I mentioned Mum, in which she’s been gone. We didn’t feel a sad aura come across us, even if it was just a bit of a sad feeling. Mum would enjoy the both of us being happy.

“Lazy bum,” Dad muttered as he joked. I chuckled as I set my fork down, making a loud echo in through the walls.

It was silent before Dad began speaking again.

“So Darcy…” He waited until he got my attention.

“Yes?” I asked.

“I um- The lads and I kind of planned this party for you, like a homecoming…” He didn’t know what else to say and just waited for my reaction.

“Oh wow, cool…” I responded. I didn’t know what else to say either, just another party.
“When is it?” I ask.

“This coming Saturday.” He states. “It’s going to be a lot of fun hopefully, I don’t exactly know what the definition of fun is for teens but the lads’ kids will be there as well. And you can invite Ryan if you’d like, also you’re other friend… What’s her name, Christina?”

“Chelsea. Thank you.” I smile. The thought of Ryan once again brought me to curiosity, it’s been a few days since he’s talked to me. Just a few days ago when we shared a sweet kiss.

-----------------------------

“Wow…” Chelsea’s eyes wandered around the place like it was a museum. I decided to call her over since the weekend has done me no good but a stressful tide. She was the only one now that I could release my problems to. And since Dad left to go run some errands, well more like furniture shopping for the party. He feels as if we need more chairs and couches for our guests to sit on. Dad’s right though, our house is pretty empty, not a lot of things going on in a mansion like this.

“Wow,” She breathed once again as we walked up the staircase. I low chuckle escaped my mouth. My reaction was just like Chelsea’s when I just arrived into this mansion.

“I don’t think I’ll ever get used to this.” She laughed as we reached my room.

“Tell me about it, I don’t think I ever will either.” I laughed. Her eyes wandered around the room as well. It wasn’t finished just yet. Dad said I can paint the walls a different color of my choice if I wanted to, but I decided to leave it ivory as it was. I liked the faint brightness of the room the paint brought. It made the room look 10 times more spacious than it was.

“More than ten people can sleep in here,” Chelsea joked as she landed on the purple duvet.

“New sheets?” She asked. I laughed and nodded.

“Needed new ones, I guess.” I sighed as I took a deep sigh and laid right next to her.

“So, what’s it like living in a huge castle?” She joked.

“Spacious I’d say.” I replied. It’s been a week since I’ve moved in here, and things were often lonely…

“You alright, Darc?” Chelsea asked. Of course, she’d be the one to notice.

“I’m fine,” I say, showing a slight smile. I lied. I wasn’t fine. I slowly started to feel as if I’ve fallen back into the darkness, but not quite.

“You’re lying.” She stated in a serious matter. And of course, again she’d be the one to notice. “What’s wrong?”

“I don’t exactly know…” My voice drifted off.

“You know Darcy, as much as I hate to bring this up, I don’t want you to fall back into that phase again.” She stated. I rolled my eyes as to what she said, as my “phase”.

“I’m just curiously nervous, okay?” I reply. She sat up and stared at me in curiosity.

“Nervous? About what?” She asks.

“It’s about Ryan- We had a little argument and I don’t know if I’m overreacting to this but-“ I didn’t continue.

“You don’t need to finish if you don’t want to.” She nervously smiled.

“Look Chels, I’m not mad at you okay… I just don’t know if I can rant any of this, not just yet.” I become abruptly confused of my own answer.

“You’re just stressed out Darcy, I get it. You moved into a new home that you haven’t once stepped foot into. I understand.” She smiled kindly. She didn’t know what I was going through, and she didn’t understand. But I left it as if before causing another dramatic scene.

“I guess,” I silently muttered.

“By the way, my Dad is throwing some homecoming party for me next Saturday, so come by alright?” I smile.

“Of course, wouldn't miss it for anything,” She says.

“Ugh,” Chelsea groans out of no where clutching her stomach.

“Are you alright?” I ask.

“Girl problems.” She groans. “Where’s the toilet?”

“Right there,” I point to the door next to my closet. She gets up slowly and walks like a zombie.

“I’ll get you some advil,” I call out once she enters the bathroom.

“Okay, thanks!” She yells. I walk downstairs and search each cabinet for a glass and some advil. It took a while for there were hundreds of cabinets, but I eventually found some.

I walked back upstairs and waited for Chelsea who was still in the toilet. I sighed as my eyes glanced over at my phone. The unthinkable came through before I started clicked call under his name.

I waited and waited after 5 rings… Nothing. I sighed as I kept waiting. My heart raced fast as soon as I heard his voice, but soon came to a disappointment when it was just his voicemail. I sighed and almost talked. Suddenly, Chelsea busted the door open, causing me to jump up and throw my phone.

“Ugh, I think I’m going to puke.” Chelsea groaned. I noticed her face was turning pale blue and she still clutched her stomach.

“Here, have some Advil.” I grabbed the tall glass of water and two pills out from the bottle.

“No- I’ll just take some Midol, Advil doesn’t work on this hard stomach. I’m sorry Darc, but I think I’m going to head home…” She sighed.

“There’s no way you can drive Chels, I’ll call a taxi.” I say. She stops me and shakes her head.
“It’s alright, I’ll survive.” She sighs.

“Are you sure?” I ask, feeling nervous. She nods as she walks out my door before me.
She winces as she takes one step down the stairs. “Shit,”

I quickly run behind her and hold her as I guide her down the steps. “Careful now,”

We finally reached the door. The long staircase felt like millions of years walking Chelsea down.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to call a cab?” I ask nervously as I bring my nail up to my mouth and begin biting on it. A bad habit of mine. She shakes her head and quickly opens the door.

“I’m fine, really. I’m sorry again Darc, I’ll make it up to you.” She immediately rushed out the door before I could even reply to her. I watch her nervously as she clumsily tries to get into her car. She finally makes it in and drives out of the long driveway. I sigh and shut the door.

“Guess I’m alone for today…” I mutter.

-----------------------------

I hear a loud clutter from downstairs even with my earphones on. I remove the earphones from my ear and sit up from laying straight up, dazing into the ceiling. “Shit,” I hear. My eyes widen and I start to feel freaked out. I don’t know if it is really Dad since he said he’d be back by 7, and right now it was 6. My heart begins to race faster than ever as I open my door. I carefully walk down to the foyer. My eyes spot the packets of papers accidentally thrown all over the ground. I chuckle as I watch Dad try to bend down and reach them.

“Need some help?” I laugh. His forehead creases as he looks up, looking almost embarrassed. I make my way down the stairs as I walk over to him.

I begin to pick up one paper before he stops me from picking up the rest.

“No, no, no. Let me get this, my mess.” He stammers before he picks up the rest of the papers. I hear a loud crack once he stands up.

“Shi- Ow!” He scowls. I grab the papers from him and place them on the table near the door.

“Geez Dad, you alright?” I ask. His face becomes bloody red.

“I think I just broke my back.” He says.

“No shit, Dad-“ I cut myself off when he gives me the “don’t say that word again” face. I sigh and try to help him stand.

“Want me to call the ambulance?” I ask nervously, not sure of what to do.

“No, I’m fine.” He says and finally gets a hold of himself and stands up straight.

“You sure?” I ask again. He nods.

“Don’t worry about me now, hah.” He chuckles. “I’m getting old anyways.”

I chuckle and grab his papers from the table. I hand them to him as he nods. “Thanks kiddo.”

“Anytime,” I stammer. I watch him carefully as he makes his way to his office. He suddenly stops dead on his tracks and turns around to face me.

“We’re you home alone this whole time?” He asks.

“Sadly,” I sigh.

“What happened to Christina? I thought she was supposed to come here?” He asks. I roll my eyes and sigh as he gets Chelsea’s name wrong once again.

“Chelsea, Dad. She did come over but she left.” I state.

“Oh…” He turns around to walk towards his office again until he stops once again. “Why?”

I shake my head and begin walking up the stairs. “You’re so nosy, Dad!”

----------------------------

Dinner was awkward as usual. Dad made pasta which wasn't all that bad honestly, except some parts of the noodles and sauce was burnt. I tried to eat most of it though so that I wouldn't hurt the old man's feelings.

I was glad dinner was over and I didn't dare settle for desert. I've had enough of the food already. Throughout the whole dinner, Chelsea was on my mind. I wonder how'd she be doing as of now. I felt bad for her earlier, in how much pain she was in.

I made it back into my room. I reached for my phone, but as I was about to click call on Chelsea's number. Ryan's number glanced before my eyes. I took a deep breath and began calling his phone. Ring...Ring...Ring...Ring... I gave up and frustratingly clicked the button. At this moment I was feeling desperate, clingy. I thought of the unthinkable.

I take a deep sigh before picking up my phone and begin dialing the hospital number. Ring Ring.

A few numerous rings pass by before a familiar voice picks up.

“Cheshire Hospital, how may I help you?”

“Doctor Ravenberg?” I ask. The line becomes silent before he answers again.

“Yes who’s speaking?” He asks.

“It’s Darcy, Darcy Paige…” It feels weird that I feel myself still referred to as Darcy Paige.

“Oh yes, Hello Darcy. Long time no see, how are you dear?” He asks.

“I’m great, you?” I ask.

“Lovely, just lovely, so what made you want to call today young lady?”

“I was just wondering- Well, is Ryan Tate there?” I ask.

“Rya- Oh yes, I’ll call him down, just hold on for just a second.” He says. I feel my hand begin to shake and I feel as if I will drop the phone any minute when I hear his voice.

The silent line becomes occupied with Doctor Ravenberg’s voice again.

“I’m sorry Darcy, but it seems as if he’d just finished his work an hour ago.” He explains. I feel my heart drop in disappointment.

“Alright, thank you Doctor.” I blandly reply.

“Anything else I could help you with?” He asks.

“No thank you.”

“Well you have a goodnight,” He chirps.

“You too.” I reply before clicking the end button and throwing my phone on the bed.

------------------------

Hours passed before I eventually landed in bed, feeling hopeless. I even forgot to call up Chelsea and see how she's doing. I reach for my phone and begin to dial her number. After long rings, I give up to no one answering. I sigh and place my phone back on the table.

The photo of Mum catches my eye. Her bright smile and bright eyes just brings the picture alive, so breathtaking. She looked so happy. I bite my lip once tears begin to blur my eyes. I know Mum wouldn't want me to be like this, all sad because of her. But I really needed someone right now, someone to talk to. Someone that could help me out with this problem. I make a low sniffle as the tears begin to stroll down my cheeks. I grab the duvet closer to my chin and hug it.

"I miss you, Mum..." I say barely above a whisper.
