All of the basketball players and several girlfriends ended up in Ethan’s basement. Several people were bitching over the fact that there was no beer there.

The basement had no carpet; it only had a freezing cold concrete floor. There were a few old, half broken couches, a Ping-Pong table covered in chips and two liter bottles of pop, along with cheap Bluetooth speakers playing crappy music.

It really wasn’t my favorite place to be, but I wanted to hang out with Jeffery, and parties like this were increasingly becoming our only chances. The further the team got to state championships, the more and more time Jeffery spent at practices.

Shortly after arriving, the basketball players continued to congratulate each other. Luckily, Jeffery was really good at balancing giving attention to his buddies versus me.

Jeffery poured himself a red solo cup full of a knockoff version of Mountain Dew, called Mountain Mist, and sat down at the end of one of the half broken couches. I sat down next to him, but the brokenness of the couch made the seat to his right extremely uncomfortable, so I ended up sitting on his lap.

Not that I minded having to do that.

One of his “bros” came up to Jeffery and started talking to him, and he proceeded to sit down right next to Jeffery, where I attempted to sit down before ending up on his lap.

While they were talking about the same, I just ran my fingers through Jeffery’s light brown hair, that was still damp from the post-game shower. I also looked into his green eyes.

I heard Jeffery refer to the guy he was talking to as Ethan, so I knew that he was the one that was “hosting” this party.

Ethan was in the middle of saying something when he stopped mid-sentence, and suddenly said to Jeffery, “Dude, I’m cool with you being gay and all, but do you have to throw it in our faces all the time?”
