“When Samantha got pregnant with you, she wanted to get an abortion. Luke wouldn’t let her.” Jack said.

“What do you mean he wouldn’t let her?” I asked.

“He didn’t want her to abort you! He was threatened to ruin her life multiple times if she ever had the abortion. Then…they made an agreement.”

“What kind of an agreement?”

“If she didn’t abort you, he would give her five thousand dollars a week until you turned eighteen. She decided to have you and then…”

I started feeling like shit knowing how much my mother didn’t care about me.

Jack continued. “Luke knew what he was getting into. As much as he…didn’t care for Samantha at the time he still stayed around her to make sure she wasn’t drinking or smoking or doing anything harmful to you. One day Luke walked in her apartment to see her with a glass of wine.”

“Oh my god.” I muttered. I got the answer that I was too afraid to get from my mom.

“He slapped it out of her hand and then poured all her alcohol bottles down the drain. He hated being around her but the occasional Instagram picture of him kissing her belly never hurt. Once you were born, he was so over protective. He clearly loved you more than anything. You’re his life, his everything.”

If that’s true… God how could he feel after I just left? Did I make him think he was a crappy Dad? Is that how he took this? Am I a horrible person?

“He was so excited when you were born. He was showing you off. Yeah, he was terrified, but he was excited. His parental instincts really kicked in. And you should remember that he did everything with you all of your life. Want to know something?”

“What?” I asked.

“I’m the one who broke into your house.” Jack confessed.
