What Makes You Beautiful

Wish I could freeze this moment in a frame and stay like this

Am I asleep, am I awake, or somewhere in between?
I can't believe that you are here and lying next to me
Or did I dream that we were perfectly entwined?
Like branches on a tree, or twigs caught on a vine?
‘Truly Madly Deeply’ – One Direction

Bella's POV

Do you love him?

She didn’t expect her father to ask that question. It was a shock to her. And that’s exactly how she responded to said question.

“How can I, Dad? It’s only been a little over a week!”

Time means nothing, Bells.

“Harry said the same thing.”

Then I’m certain Harry and I would get along splendidly. We share the same opinion about love.

“Dad…how can I love Harry after only eight days?”

He called you his girlfriend within six days. Your mother and I officially started dating after 26 days.

“What are you saying? That Harry’s in love with me?”

He very well could be. How can anyone not love you? You’re gorgeous, Bells.

“You’re only saying that because you’re my dad.”

I’m saying it because it’s the truth. Harry introduced you to his family. He’s taken you out on two dates in the space of a week. That means something.

Bella felt like falling face-first onto the table in front of her. She sat outside on the large velvet couch in the large garden behind Harry’s house. Flowers and greenery bloomed around her, the spring sunlight warming up the grounds, fluffy clouds wispy in the clear blue sky. Being Australian, Bella loved the outdoors. Her hair was motionless around her shoulders, the wavy locks falling down her back. Her free hand was pressed against her forehead. She tried to fathom all the thoughts in her head. She was due to leave London tomorrow. Leave London and leave Harry. The more time she spent with him, the more she dreaded leaving. But Bella had a life back home in Newtown. She missed her family and her friends.

“This is so hard, Dad.”

What is, darling?

“Leaving. But on the other hand, I can’t wait to come home.”

If it’s hard for you, I’m sure it’s hard for Harry too.

“How do you know that?”

I’ve read his statement. I’ve seen the pictures of you two on the Internet. Having your girlfriend leave is never an easy thing to cope with. Believe me, I know. I’m a man. Harry’s a man. I know how the male brain works.

“I don’t know… Fans have already found my Facebook page.”

How? Harry didn’t say your name in his statement.
Her father sounded confused.

“One Direction fans dig deep, Dad. They tracked me down from the pictures of Harry and I on the Internet. I’m probably going to delete my account because I’m getting bombarded with messages. And Harry’s Twitter is still exploding. It’s just…so much.” Bella said, sitting back. The velvet was soft against her back. Her blue denim dress was perfect for the weather, black flats on her feet.

Well, I’m happy for you, Bells. Amanda is too.

“Thanks, Dad. Tell Amanda that as well. How did I go from Jacob to Harry? They’re so different.”

Jacob was a dick for two-timing you. That really pissed me off. I can just tell that Harry would never do that to you. He’s always out with you. And from what you’ve told me, he only looks at you. I mean, he’s written a song about you. That’s a beautiful romantic gesture, Bells.

“I still can’t believe I inspired him in that way. It makes me feel special.” Bella smiled.

You are
special, darling. Remember that.

Bella moved a strand of brown hair behind her ear. She had never felt special, at least not in the way Harry made her feel special. Two dates in less than a week, his arms her reason for falling asleep, writing a song about her, his kisses passionate and warm, the welcoming of his family. She was honestly one very lucky young woman. So much had happened in a short space of time. Harry’s house had become Bella’s second home. She felt safe there.

“Dad, you’re going to make me cry.”

She heard him laugh.

Don’t cry, my girl. You’re leaving tomorrow right?

“Yeah, I arrive in Sydney at 7:15 at night.”

Your mother’s going to pick you up?

“Yep. Actually, I wanted ask you if I could stay with you and Amanda for a few days next week? Mum’s already fine with it.” Bella said, running a hand through her hair.

Amanda and I would love that. You’re welcome anytime, Bells.
She could hear the excited smile in his voice.

“Awesome. I can’t wait to see you.”

Likewise, darling.

“I’ve got to finish packing. I’ll call you when I land in Sydney.”

Rightio, Bells. Enjoy your last day-and-a-half with Harry.

“I will. Bye, Dad.”

The line disconnected and her father was no longer there. Bella lowered her phone from her ear, her screen showing the list of her contacts in alphabetical order. She went back to the menu screen and opened Facebook in a new Internet tab. She ignored all of the notifications and messages that came up and didn’t hesitate in deleting her account. Permanently.

Bella let go of her phone and sat back, taking a deep breath. Everything she was and ever would be on Facebook was gone. Her account would probably crash anyway, because of all the messages from crazy Directioners. Bella felt someone’s eyes on her and looked at the white house, scanning along the exterior wall. And sure enough, staring at her out of the left window on the second level, was Harry.

Harry's POV

Do you love her? His mother asked. Her voice was a little muffled, as his phone was pressed against his chest. He turned away from the window, not wanting to creep Bella out. Harry placed his phone to his ear to answer his mother’s question.

“I don’t know. I’ve never been in love before so I don’t know what it feels like.”

Tell me what you’re feeling then, Harry.

“I…can’t get her out of my head. Every time I close my eyes, I see her face. Every time I sit down to write a song, I think about her. I don’t know if it’s love or obsession.”

You’re not obsessed, honey. I know you’re not.

Harry wanted to believe his mother. He thought it was too early to fall in love with Bella. He felt warmth, affection and adoration for her. He loved every second he was with her. By this time tomorrow, Bella would be at the airport, flying back to home. And away from Harry.

“I really don’t know when I’m thinking, Mum. I’m torn between my heart and my head.”

How so?

“The tour’s resuming in Wales and then, we go to North America. How are Bella and I going to maintain our relationship when she’s in Australia, when she’s thousands of miles away from me?”

You two will make it work if it’s meant to be. Don’t let distance make you feel different. You don’t need to see someone to feel something for them.

Harry walked up to the wall and rested his fist against it, his eyes lowered to the floor. If he had the strength, he would punch right through the wall. The two dates he’d taken Bella on had been two of the most heartfelt dates he’d ever been on. Conversation flowed easily between them and Harry found that to be a gift. He remembered how wide her eyes became when they stood on Westminster Bridge, looking out over The Thames, the London Eye lit up before them. But all of the monuments’ splendour didn’t compare to how beautiful Bella was, that’s what Harry thought. She had literally bumped into his life and ever since that moment, he wanted her to be his. Just his.

“I know, Mum. I’m just…going to miss her so much.”

When is she leaving?

“Around this time tomorrow.”

Then why in the world are you on the phone with me? Go to her, Harry. Cherish your last day together.

Harry smiled at his mother’s words. His hand slid off the wall and he turned around, walking out his room and down the stairs.

“I’ll talk to you soon, Mum.”

OK, honey. Give Bella my love.

Harry told her he would and hung up, placing his phone in the back pocket of his skinny jeans. The sound of his buckled black ankle boots echoed off the walls as he walked to the large sliding glass door that led out into the landscaped garden. Louis was still upstairs in his room; Harry assumed he was probably busy scribbling down ideas for songs or talking to Liam on the phone. He hoped Louis wouldn’t interrupt anything today. Harry only had hours left with Bella and he was determined to make them memorable and precious.

He opened the sliding door and left the fresh air invade his nostrils, the fragrance of the flora sweet in the wind. Bella hadn’t moved from the velvet couch he had seen her seated on from his bedroom window. She looked up at him as he approached her, a weak smile on her face. Her expression broke his heart. She doesn’t want to go. Harry didn’t want her to go either. But she had to.

Harry took a seat next to her and rested his left hand on her thigh. Bella placed her hand over his and leaned to the side, placing her head where his neck met his shoulder. Harry rested his cheek against her head, treasuring the proximity between them. He could feel her fingers tremble so he placed his other hand over hers, lacing his fingers with hers. It was silent for a few moments but then, he heard Bella speak.

“Thank you, Harry.”

“For what?”

“Everything. I’ve had a wonderful eight days here with you. I really have.”

Her voice was shaky. Harry raised his head and looked at her, a puzzled expression on his face. Slowly, Bella turned to face him and what Harry saw were tearstained cheeks and shining hazel eyes. How can a woman look so beautiful when she cries? Harry didn’t know the answer. He stared at her gently and raised his right hand to rub away her tears.

“It’s been a pleasure to spend time with you, Bella. But don’t cry. We will see each other again soon. I promise.” Harry gave her his word, caressing her cheek with his hand. He cupped her neck and leaned in, his forehead touching hers. Both of them had their eyes lowered, taking in each other, treasuring the moment. Bella wrapped the fingers of her left hand around Harry’s wrist, pressing her lips together. His heart continued to beat for the young Australian woman, hearing her breath, feeling it ghost over his face like a warm breeze. Harry licked his lips and titled his head to the side, moving in closer to kiss her.

The moment Harry felt Bella’s lips touch his, he was overcome with desire. He locked his left arm around her back and pulled her flush against his chest, keeping a firm hold on her with his right hand on the back of her neck. The kiss deepened when Bella opened her mouth, giving Harry an invitation, which he accepted gladly. Her hand was in his hair, the other hand still locked around his wrist. Neither of them wanted this moment to end. Kissing in the spring sun with an array of beautiful flowers growing around them. It was young passion. But was it love? Only time would tell.

Notes

Just a filler. It’s soppy, I know, but I’m a sucker for it! And I’ve decided I’m going to update on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays from now on so you’ll get three chapters a week! :) (Unless PianoWriter or any other writers strike a deal with me/demand an update XD.)

Also, I’ve got an idea for another story I want to do. It’s about vampires and based on the book/film, Interview with the Vampire (it’s amazing). I ask you guys, should I run with it or not bother writing it?

I've got a lot of family issues going on at the moment and sweet and kind comments are probably the only thing that will make me happy right now so please tell me your thoughts on this chapter and if I should write the vampire story. Much love, my friends!
