Perfect

HARRY
The silence on the way back to the hotel felt strange. No matter how many radio stations I switched, nothing could make feel better. On the one hand, I couldn’t help but feel like I should have done more of an effort to stop Jamie from leaving, but I know how dead set she was and I didn’t want her doing it because I was forcing her to. On the other, I also can’t stop thinking about Natalie. I know I’m not supposed to think about her, but I can’t help myself. I’ve been with her for all this time, but it’s obvious I mean nothing to her because there is not a single text from her or a single phone call ever since that breakup text. I don’t know what I was expecting but I guess it serves me right. Everyone from Liam to Niall thought it was a bad idea, and I should have listened. But I was so wrapped up with what we had I wasn’t willing to heed anyone’s advice.
But at least I know that being with Natalie was a mistake and nothing more. It feels like a mistake. It’s like a part of me dreads the fact that I might run into her. I’m not looking forward to it. I want to get away from that part of my life as soon as possible even though I have to admit I’m not completely over her. Maybe it took someone like Jamie to show me what I was doing before I fucked it up even more. I’m almost close to the hotel when my phone rings. Thinking it might be Jamie calling from a new number, I pick it up.
It’s not Jamie.
“Harry?”
The voice on the phone is familiar but I can’t seem to place it. The number is not in my contact list but it could still be someone I know. “Yes?”
“This is Pierre,” the voice says. “Pierre Gleeson? We met a few hours ago at your mother’s fundraiser?”
Warning bells go off inside my head. “Pierre, of course. What can I do for you?”
“I need to see you,” Pierre says. “But not in front of my wife. Can we meet at the bar?”
“Sure,” I say because canceling on him would make it seem like I’m avoiding him for some reason and that’s not the impression I want to leave on him. I realize that he might have found out about me and his wife somehow, but he’s only calling me in the hotel bar not some back alley so what do I have to fear? If things do go out of hand, I can always call Louis or Liam. But what if things do go out of hand somehow? Someone just drugged me and I didn’t think it could have been dangerous. Pierre could do something like that. So I have to do something about protection before I meet him.
“So what time can we meet?” Pierre says.
I look at my watch. “I can be at the hotel in about twenty minutes,” I tell Pierre. “I’ll come straight to the bar.”
“That sounds great,” Pierre says. “I’d appreciate if you come on time. I don’t want Natalie finding out about our meeting and she comes back from the spa in about two hours which gives us plenty of time to talk.”
“Okay.”
“See you then,” Pierre says and I put the phone back on the dashboard. Well, that was unexpected. But Pierre being so polite, it can’t be something regarding Natalie. If I found out my wife was sleeping with someone, I’d be in jail before that guy got a word in. Pierre might look like a harmless guy but underneath that exterior I can sense something dark. They act like they’re this perfect couple and like Pierre is this calm, evolved guy but I can see that he’s hiding something. When something’s too perfect to be true, you should question it. And that, is exactly what I intend on doing tonight.
Whatever Pierre has that he’s dying to share with me, it has to be interesting at the very least and something that will reveal his true colors.
