Anything Goes

chapter 3

I woke up at nine the next morning with a smile on my face. I swear I could hear the birds outside chirping and feel the sun on my skin. Damn… I felt good.

Harry had walked me home around two when everyone started to leave. Our conversation was easy on the walk home and I found we had more in common than I had thought.

I couldn’t even remember what we had talked about, but it was effortless. I had limited myself to only a few drinks last night, but the buzz from the alcohol in addition to Harry’s dazzling smile had my mind all jumbled. Hopefully he had just as good of a time as I did, though.

I was so jittery I decided to go to the campus gym and workout for a couple of hours. That was always my way to gather my thoughts. After on a pair of leggings, a t-shirt and my running shoes, I headed out of my room.

I hadn’t even thought that Harry might be working the security desk today until I saw him talking to one of his co-workers.

“Evelyn!” He had stopped his conversation and yelled across the lobby when he saw me.

He bid farewell to the other security guard before turning his attention back to me and flashing his beautiful smile.

“Wow. Working on a Saturday morning? That sucks,” I laughed truthfully.

“Yeah,” he agreed, “but it’s turning out not to be so bad. Where are you headed?”

“The gym. Gotta work off those drinks you kept pouring me all night.”

He chuckled. “Fair enough. Well you should work out for an extra hour because my buddy is having people over and you’re coming with me.”

“Oh I am?” I asked cheekily. I was more than happy to go with him, in fact, I was over the moon that he wanted to hang out with him again and was so insistent on it.

“Yep,” he smiled and nodded.

Just then, an older man came up to the desk that looked to be the head of the security.

“Well I better go work off those extra calories for tonight, then,” I smiled so the Harry could talk to his boss.

“I’ll pick you up at 9!” He said as I was walking out.

My weekend was just getting better and better.

After dinner that night I rushed back to my dorm to do may hair and makeup. I had showered after my sweaty workout, so it didn’t take me too long.

True to his word, Harry was waiting outside in his truck at 9. For some reason, I got nervous when I saw him. I thought I was done with the nerves after our successful night together, but now I was feeling uneasy.

I was new to the whole “dating” thing. I hope Harry isn’t expecting to hook up or anything because most of the guys at school are presumptuous like that. I was having a great time getting to know Harry and definitely had a crush on him, but I was praying he would take things slow.

“Hey.” Harry greeted me with an easy smile as I got into the passenger seat.

“Hi!” I quickly put aside my fear and decided to just go with the flow. “So where are we going?”

“My buddy John’s. My roommates will be there and probably a few other guys you met last night.”

I nodded and played with the hem of the dress I was wearing. I loved that we lived in a small college town just for the reason that everything was so close and only took a couple of minutes to drive through. We were at John’s house in less than five minutes and I was more than ready to start drinking.
“Okay,” he grabbed my hand as soon as we got inside. “You are going to properly meet my roommates before they get too fucked up.” He laughed but I knew he was serious.

“This is Liam, I’ve known him since high school.” He grabbed his roommate’s shoulder to get him to face us.

“Harry, you fuck, you made me miss my shot!” Liam yelled when Harry interrupted his game of pong. “Oh, Evelyn, right?!” His face went soft when he saw me.

I smiled and nodded.

“Well, whatever this guy says about me, it’s probably not true.” He joked as he nudged Harry’s side.

We talked to Liam for a little bit before he insisted he get back to his beer pong game. Harry introduced me to his other two roommates again, Louis and Niall.

They were all just as welcoming as Harry had been and made me feel a little more at ease. I was glad they weren’t douches like most of the guys at our school.

After a few beers I was finally relaxed. I had met more of Harry’s friends and even met a few girls who I exchanged numbers with to hang out with again.

Harry and I had just finished a game of beer pong against two of his friends when he asked me to come outside with him.

The nerves were back. Was he going to try to hook up?

He led me out to the porch where there was a couch. We both sat down and face each other.

“So what’s up?” I asked, curious as to why we were out here and away from the party.

Harry shrugged. “I just wanted to talk.” He took a sip of his beer before setting it on the table in front of us. “Tell me about you, Evvie.”

I smiled and felt my cheeks go warm. Thankfully it was too dark for him to notice that. “Well first of all, you are the only one who has ever called me that.”

He grinned liked he was proud.

“But ummmm,” I tried to think of what to tell him. “Well I have three siblings, two older and one younger. A dog. I’m an elementary education major… What about you?”

I wasn’t really sure what else to say. Did he actually want to know all of the details to my life or was he just trying to make conversation?

“I have 2 older brothers, Jack and Will. Jack’s married but we’re all still pretty close. I go home every Sunday night for dinner because my dad likes to cook for us all and catch up. Let’s see… I’m a business major and I’m on the football team. And I obviously work for security on campus,” he smiles.

He proceeds to tell me how his hometown is only 20 minutes from campus while I explain I’m from two hours away. We talk about our majors some more before he asks me about my friends.

“I swear I have friends,” I laugh. “They just went home for the weekend. You’ll have to meet them, they’re great.”

“Definitely! You girls should come over to my place next weekend and we’ll hang out.”

“For sure!” I agreed a little to enthusiastically. I just knew the girls would be over the moon about it. Maybe I could even set them up with Harry’s roommates.

Harry is good at keeping our conversation going when I don’t know what to say. He asks me more about my friends back home and the typical questions like what kind of music I like or if I play any sports.

I don’t even notice all of the people coming in and out of the house while we talk because I’m so invested in our conversation. Harry is so easy to talk to and puts me at ease. Everything I’m learning about him tonight makes me respect him more and realize he’s not a typical football-playing douche.

“You’re cool, Evvie,” Harry smiles after we finish our conversation.
I smile back and think how perfect this weekend has been. It’s been great getting to know Harry. I still can’t decide whether he’s coming on to me or just wants to my friend, but either way, I’m glad I met him.
