Roses & Wallflowers

I’ll get my clothes from Tara’s tomorrow morning. Maybe my foster mother will let me skip school and get settled in.

When I arrived at the foster home, I took a deep breath and knocked on the door.

“Oh my goodness you must be Haize. Come in, come in. It’s pouring out there.” A woman with long brown hair said. “I’m Carol, and I am your mother now. You don’t have to call me your mother now if you don’t want to. But it would make me happy if you do soon. Um, where’s your things?”

“They’re still at my biological mother’s house. I just got back from a date and I didn’t have time to grab them because it was raining.”

“Oh well I’ll dry the clothes that you have on right now, and you can wear them tomorrow. In the mean time, I’m pretty sure Luke will let you wear some of her clothes.” Luke can be a girl name? “Luke! Come here!” Then all of a sudden a beautiful blonde came walking down the hall way and she smiled when she saw me.

“Oh finally someone my age. Come with me, I can tell already that we’ll get along well.” She locked her arm in mine and we walked down the hall way. “This is your room,” She pointed to a door, “And this is my room,” She pointed to the door next to it. “So I heard you need some clothes? I have a few pairs that would look really cute on you.”

She walked into her room and then quickly came out with a large t shirt and a pair of leggings. “I think these would great. What’s your name?”

“Um, Haize.” I smiled.

“I’m Luke. I know, ‘that’s a guys name’. But I like it because it’s different.” She smiled and pointed down the hall. “The bathroom is down there if you need to use it, and I’ll be right here if you need anything.” Then she went into her room, and then I went into mine.

After I changed, Carol came by my room and picked up Harry’s wet clothes and my wet dress. I sat down on my bed and sighed.

I didn’t want to do anything, and out of nowhere I started to cry. I had a couple of reasons, but I didn’t think that I would cry this hard. For one, my mom really put me up for adoption. Two, Julian probably still hates me even though he wants us to be friends. Three, I regret what happened with Harry. Should I have slept with him? Would it had made a difference to the way he treats me?

I started to cry harder. Then there was a knock on my door and I tried to wipe away my tears, but more started to fall.

“Hey I just wanted to bring you some music to listen to for the night-” It was Luke. She walked up to me and sat down on my bed. “Are you okay?” I shook my head and sighed. “Do you wanna talk about it?”

I nodded my head and started to cry again. She pulled a little bag of tissues from the nightstand drawer and handed me one. “I didn’t think that my mother would actually put me up for adoption. I knew that she couldn’t take care of me, but I didn’t know that she didn’t love me. I thought that she loved me a little deep down in her bitter soul, but I was wrong.”

Luke rubbed my back and gave me an assuring smile. “Are you sure it’s not a boy?”

I started to cry again, “It is a boy. It’s two actually.”

“My God.” She smiled and scooted closer to me. “What are their names?”

“Well, one is named Julian. He is the sweetest guy you could ever meet, and I almost had a chance with him, but it disappeared and now we’re just friends. But I bet he still hates me even though he told me that he wanted to be friends.” I let out a deep breath. “The other one’s name is Harry. I started out hating him with everything that I had because he bullied me and he was nothing but rude and disrespectful to me. And he thinks that it’s my fault that he lost his girlfriend, so he demanded that I go on a date with him. I did, and he was being a jerk throughout the whole thing. But at the end of it when he kissed me…”

“You don’t know who you like do you?” She smiled.

I shook my head, “And Harry was literally on the verge of taking my clothes off and you know…” She nodded her head and I sighed. “Yeah but I pushed him away and barged out of his house. I don’t want to go to school tomorrow, afraid of what he might say or do.

But then again, I do want to go to school because I want to see him.” I rested my head in my hands. “My life is so hard.”

Luke laughed. “We can go to school together tomorrow.”

“You go to the same school as me?” I looked at her.

“Yeah. I’m a Senior. That’s why you probably never see me. But I see you, yeah you’re always sitting with a nerd at lunch, and you’re always being pushed around by that girl after school.” She said and I looked down in embarrassment. “But don’t worry about her. I’ll put a stop to that. And, you don’t have to worry about your clothes until after school. I’m going to dress you up tomorrow, so if Harry is mad at you, he’ll fall to his knees and beg for your forgiveness.”

I laughed. “Thanks Luke. Oh, and thanks for making me laugh. I’ll see you tomorrow then, but right now I’m going to go to bed.”

“Okay. Sweet dreams.” She smiled and left my room.

Maybe her plan will work, maybe it will completely backfire. We’ll see.
