It’s time to go back to school. I am not excited at all. I wonder if I could just, stay here and die slowly. I could just die by drowning in my tears.

“You need to leave for school! Now!” My mother yelled from the kitchen. God I do, I honestly hate her. I just wish that my dad would’ve taken me with him. He’s probably married to a woman who would treat me like an actual daughter. And maybe even love me.

I got dressed and quickly walked down stairs. But before I could leave, she grabbed my arm and I looked at her with wide eyes.

“I’ve made my decision.” She pushed me, knocking my books from my hands and slamming my body into the front door. “I get a raise today, and as soon as I get home,” She picked up her phone, “I’m putting you up for adoption.”

“Adoption?” I muttered, tears forming in my eyes.

“I don’t know why you’re so upset Haize. This is what you wanted, right?”

“Yes but. I didn’t expect you to actually do it.”

“Well I am. Get to school. I’m pretty sure you won’t miss me.”

Tears fell from my eyes, even though I don’t know why, and I picked up my books and left. I couldn’t handle all of this in one day. I don’t even know what’s going to happen today.

When I arrived at the school, I immediately went into my first period. I didn’t even want to go to my locker in fear of Carly and her stuck up friends, thinking they would walk up to me. And I seriously don’t want to deal with her or Dianne.

Then Julian walked into the room and I cleared my throat, hoping he would stop and talk to me. But he just walked right past me, without even saying a word.

“Okay…” I muttered to myself.

Then Harry and Dianne came walking in. Harry isn’t even in my first period, but he just came in here with Dianne. When he saw me, he smiled and I looked away.

Then the five minute bell rang and he kissed Dianne, making me roll my eyes. Before he walked out, he winked and me, making me scoff. Some guys just don’t quit, do they?

And not even 15 minutes into first period, Mrs. Wilkins’ phone rang.

“Mrs. Wilkins?” The caller said.

“Yes?” Mrs. Wilkins replied.

“Please send Haize Jones to the office.” Then many ‘oohs’ came from throughout the room and I stood up and walked out of the classroom.

When I walked up into the office, I was 100% sure that this was about my grades. I’m failing History, and that is not a good deal.

“Ah, Ms. Jones. Have a seat please.” The principal said when I walked in. I sat down in front of her and she sighed. “You have me concerned, Ms. Jones. You usually come into school ready for your first period, which is Science. And you’re always smiling. But, today you’re acting weird. Is it a boy?” She smiled and I nodded my head.

“I um, I kissed another boy in front of him last night. Technically the boy kissed me, and I didn’t even want him to. And then the boy that I like thought that I would rather be with the other boy than with him and then he just walked away. And now, I am broken inside because… Because I really like Julian…” And I just said his name out loud.

Then the principal smiled. “You’re always walking around with Julian Hanes, but I didn’t see you walking with him today. Is there anything else you would like to get off of your chest Haize?” I shook my head and she gasped. “What on earth happened to your cheek?”

I raised my hand to my cheek and smiled. “Oh I got hit last night.”

Then she raised her eyebrows and wrote something down on a sticky note. “By who?”

I bit my lip, “The guy that kissed me last night and… And my mother.”

Then she stood up and sat down beside me. “Has your mother always been abusive?” I nodded my head. “Why? Why would anyone want to abuse their children?”

“She’s um… She’s putting me up for adoption when I get home today.”

“Well my goodness. You’re mother is absolutely insane. Not to be mean or anything, but I’m glad she’s putting you up for adoption. Where’s your father?” I went silent and she realized why. “Forgive me darling.”

I nodded my head and she sighed. “Okay, well I guess I’m going to have to let you go hun. Good luck with Julian.” She smiled at me and stood up, meaning that I could leave.

I went to leave, but then I turned around to see her still smiling at me. I walked up to her and wrapped her in a hug. “Thank you for listening.”

“Oh you’re welcome.”

And then I left her office. When I got back to the classroom, I walked in and Julian looked up at me. I smiled at him but he just shook his head and looked back down.

When the bell rang, it was time to switch classes. And I walked outside of the classroom, waiting for Julian to walk out.

And when he did, “Julian!” I called, smiling. But he just ignored me. “Julian.” He stopped walking and turned around and looked at me. “Oh good. I thought you were going to keep ignoring me-”

“Hey Charlie.” He said, smiling.

“My name isn’t Charl-”

“Hey Julian.” I went to turn around, but then the girl walked past me and up to Julian.

And then he kissed her, and he was looking at me the whole time.
