Eve DuPont’s father, Éleuthère Irénée DuPont, is one of the richest men in America. After serving in the War shortly, he established a gunpowder mill in 1802, along the banks of Wilmington, Delaware, and grew richer and richer. Having more money than he knew what to do with, Éleuthère, his wife, and his child, Gregory, moved into a mansion, and began their life.

Somewhere along the lines of Éleuthère opening his third mill, Eve was born.

Almost sixteen years later, Éleuthère and Eve’s mother, Angelica, try to arrange a marriage with her cousin, Edward.
