Listen To Your Heart ~ COMPLETED

Guilt

Harry’s POV
I’ve never felt more horrible about myself. The guilt from not walking her home is swelling up inside me as minutes pass with her absence. I should have gone anyway, but I wanted her to know that I trust her. Now, she isn’t here, and it’s all my fault.

I pick my head up to stare out the rainy window. I watch as the raindrops slowly slide down the window. Bringing my index finger to the cold glass, I draw a heart.

“Where ever you are, I’m waiting. I don’t know how long it will take, but I will wait for you,” I whisper as if she could hear me. A tear formed and slid down my face matching the rain outside. I was hoping that today it would stop raining, so I could go out with Harmony somewhere. Now, it is clearly impossible with this bad weather and without her.

“Harry, come out and eat lunch with us,” Louis knocks.

I wipe the tears from my eyes to show him that I’m being strong, but my best friend can sense my sorrow. He pats my back with a look full of pity.

“It’s alright Haz. We’re going to find her if it’s the last thing we do.”

“I know. I’m just worried about her.”

“We all are.”

Harmony’s POV
Another few hours must have passed, but I’ve lost track of time. The man still hasn’t returned, and I hope he never does. All I can think about is Harry. I wonder what he’s doing right now. Is he looking for me? I hope he is. Hope. There’s been a lot of hoping in my life. Hope is a strong word. According to the dictionary, hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen, and right now, I am full of hope. I have no doubt that Harry will find me, but my biggest hope is that he finds me soon.

My stomach rumbles notifying me that I am super hungry. The last time I ate was at lunchtime because I was going to have dinner after I got back from the dance studio. But that didn’t happen, so I must have gone 24 hours, at least, without fueling my body so far. I can only imagine how long this guy will wait until he realizes that I can’t live on air.

It’s sad that only thing I can do to pass the time is sit here against my will and think. I thought about trying to tilt back in the chair, but I only realized that if I did break the chair, I would also bang my head on the concrete floor. I don’t want to risk breaking open my skull and getting brain damage. Do I?

The light outside of the window starts to die down. Soon I hear the soft sounds of crickets using their musical legs to produce noise. It’s kind of soothing actually. It reminds me a lot of Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio. He never lost hope in the puppet becoming a real boy. He’s one of my many childhood inspirations. You could say that all of the Disney characters are my friends. You get a lot of downtime to watch movies when you don’t have any real friends.

My eyes begin to flutter shut, and my urge to resist sleep incase he comes back is not obeyed. Sleep is inevitable for me, for my body is drained of energy that comes from food and tired from the struggle against the ropes holding me together. Everything becomes black as I let sleep take over me.

Harry’s POV
The moment the clock strikes nine, I think is the right moment to call and file for missing person. My concern for her grows more and more each passing second. I shake as I try to dial the number for 911, leaving Liam to take the phone from me and place the call himself. I curl up into a ball on the couch as he speaks to the officer on the other line.

“Yes, she was last seen at about 8:30 last night leaving Dance Precisions studio… Um, about five foot four, long brown hair, dark brown eyes… She was wearing a multi color shirt and denim shorts with pink shoes... Okay… Thank you… yeah… bye.”

Silence followed the end of Liam’s phone call. None of us seemed to be quite sure what the situation was. I was nervous to know what exactly they had said to him.

“What did they say?” Dani asked the question on all of our tongues.

“Um… they said that they’ll come meet with us tomorrow, get a little more information, and they’ll do the best they can.”

“What do we do until then?” Niall asks.

“I think we should all get some sleep. It’s been a rough day for all of us; I’m sure a good night sleep will do us some good,” Louis says.

Everyone seems to agree with this idea finally showing the tiredness in their eyes. Normally, every one of us would be able to stay up past midnight at least, but it’s clear that this situation has kept them worried. Sleep just needs to take over to take away some of that worry from us.

“Okay, we’ll all get ready and be here by ten for the officers to come,” Liam takes charge. No one argues, however, as they all couldn’t bother to argue in this time of importance.

~

I get up super early, before the sun is up. The dark stillness outside is accompanied by the sound of light rain and leaves rustling in the wind. I look over to the simple bedside table at the digital alarm clock. 4:29 it reads. I avert my gaze to the sentimental picture in the small frame lying beside the clock. It was the two of us in the park, the same day I asked her out later that day. I guess Eleanor was right. Pictures are to be treasured. To anyone who wasn’t there, it would look like we were just two people having fun, but that exact day and that park had so much more meaning.

At this point, I can no longer sleep. Knowing it would be a few more hours before everyone else would be awake, I decided to go out and get some fresh air. I change into a plain T-shirt and jeans from the small selection of clothes Louis brought me. I put my shoes on and quietly sneak out of the apartment.

During this early hour, no person is out. Thankfully, this includes the paparazzi and fans. I love my fans, but sometimes they can get on your nerves just like the paps. I’m completely oblivious to fact that there is a light rain and my clothes are getting soaked. I can only imagine what conditions Harmony might be in. I hope it’s better than this drab rain we’ve been getting on and off even before my arrival just three days ago.

I kick a rock on the ground, and it skids across the cement in a straight line. Continuing to look down, I was unaware of the car speeding down the otherwise lonely street until a splash of water caused my clothes to get drenched in the disgusting street water. However, I don’t let my anger get the best of me and continue to walk like nothing happened.

After what feels like an hour of walking, I reach a small field. The poor flowers are wilted over from drowning in the overdose of water and lack of sunlight. I reach down to pick a lone pink flower still standing strong over the rest. The endurance presented in this one flower reminds me that Harmony is strong. She can handle herself. She can lead the way for those who choose to follow because she has a determination in her that no one else has. She has the strength and endurance to get through whatever she may be doing now, and she will not give up on finding her way back.

Of course, it all depends on the situation. For all I know, she ran away or she doesn’t want to see me again, but my suspicions lead me to think that she wouldn’t do any such thing even if she wanted to. We need each other too much to ever want to separate. I’m sure of it.

The rain begins to slow down even more until it finally reaches a stop. The sun becomes visible in a thin line on the horizon. I can feel a stirring in the nature around me as small creatures begin to wake up. The early birds are chirping in their own little world annoying nearby squirrels. I bask in the sun’s warmth to let my clothes start to dry off a little before I begin my decent homebound.

When I reached the block of the flat, a few police cars were parked outside. I guess time flies when you’re without the ones you love.

“Harold! Where have you been? We all agreed to be here at nine, and you have no exception because you actually slept here,” Louis scolded me.

I just ignored him and trudged past the crowd of people to shower and change out my wet clothes. No one did anything to stop me. I guess that’s just the kind of unwanted pity I get as the outcome of all of this.
