Good Intentions

Ch 4

MOM'S POV

I walk into his bedroom and see her asleep, her head resting on his bed. They will make the perfect brother and sister. I open the curtains and she lifts her head off of the bed and looks my way smiling. She gets up and stretches, walks over to me and hugs me good morning and goes into the kitchen and starts breakfast on her own.
I walk over to him and caress his face, he does have a beautiful face. I look at his hands, big hands, they will be such a help on the farm. I notice the one tattoo we have allowed to stay, the cross in between his thumb and index finger. If he takes too much notice in it, it will have to be removed also. I hear his breathing pattern change and look at him, his eye lashes flutter and his eyes open. He smiles as me and I pat his hand.
“You think you can get up today? You’ve had a few rough days here lately.” He moves his arms with more ease today and I help him sit up. We have in a hospital bed so we can maneuver him around easier. I move out of the way so he can put his legs on the side of the bed hold his hand while he gets his bearings about him. He places his toes on the floor, then the entire foot. I stand beside the bed as he holds onto me while he gets his balance. He stands up and decides he can walk and makes his way to the bathroom.
I go to the closet and get him out his clothes and place them on his bed. I then go to the dresser and get out under clothes and socks. He walks back in and sees that I have laid out his clothes and thanks me. He turns and goes back into the bathroom and turns on the water to shower.
“Don’t lock the door in case you fall and we need to help you” I say as I leave his room giving him some privacy. I stand outside his door and listen for him, making sure I’m near to help him if he does fall.

I don’t know what came over my husband to suggest we need a son, except for the fact we do need help around here. Its as if it just came to him one day.
He had to go to town, which is always a day trip, I had decided not to go, I had too much to do around here. The seasons were changing and cleaning had to be done as well as the switching out of the closets. He came home almost in a rage, but after calming down he announced at family time, it was time our daughter had a brother, an older one.
He spoke of helping him out. He needed direction. At first this was not what I wanted. I wanted a son who was younger, who could be molded and didn’t have to be broken. He assured me, not much would have to be done. Inside he was a good kid, he just needed to be lead.
I haven’t questioned anything that he has suggested we do. I saw first hand what happens when he is questioned. I have never seen him react in such a way. He is so much bigger than her, I feared he had really hurt her. I believe it hurt her heart more than the actual pain hurt her. I cried in the shower for her that night. I cried for myself, suddenly scared of him.

I hear him turn off the water and listen to him slowly get out and come in the room to get dressed. I knock lightly on the door and tell him breakfast will be ready shortly he responds with ‘I’ll be right there’. He’s such a polite boy, breaking and molding him shouldn’t be a problem, in fact I see nothing that needs to be broken.
I hear my husband come in the door. He’s been up for at least four hours already, I know he’s more than ready for breakfast.
We all take our places at the table and are lead in the blessing. Everything is passed around and we each take a helping. We eat in silence as we do at every meal.
As soon as we are finished, we take our plates to the kitchen and they are placed in the dishwasher. I get my morning kiss on the cheek and returns to work
