Speak Up - Where We Share What We Think

This one sort of falls under a love/hate category.
It's common to stumble on a story about a Girl who was best friends/friends with the Guy (Harry in my case) and he leaves to go off with his band. 1D, 1D, 1D - chant people, chant!

Anyway, back to the plot:
So he would leave and he'd promise to come back, but he doesn't come back until many years later.
It's pretty mean that he never calls, Skype's, text or emails his so called best friend. I mean seriously, he buggers off in his band and he can't even bother to use one small bit of communication.
Again, these Girls are just too forgiving. They hate him for a bit and quite right they should, he doesn't ever get a good reception from her when he comes home.

But how do these boys seem to win our hearts sooner or later? We can never make that hate last can we? - I'm going off track here, I feel like this has actually happened to me and I'm forgetting that this is what that poor character goes through, not me. Sorry.-

Anyway, how do you feel writing a story like that? What is it about going from a love to hate then to love again? Can you imagine feeling like your character, is your heart in your words?
And reading this sort of story, does it excite you? Is it good having a hate towards the Guy character which we all know to love?
