Summer Heat

Prologue: Harry

I walked down the street slowly, taking in the beautiful night sky. I looked across the street to see a boy sitting in a diner all alone. I looked both ways and hurried across to the diner. I strolled in and sat down with him. The boy looked up, startled I had sat with him.

“Hi there, I’m Harry, I saw you sitting here alone and I thought you’d like some company so... Here I am!” I said laughing nervously. The boy blinked at me, “Um... What’s your name mate?” I asked smiling softly at him. The boy’s eyes widened and he blushed.

“Louis,” said the boy quietly. I thought about his name and nodded. It was a fair name.

“Nice to meet you, what are you doing here all alone Louis?” I asked. Louis shivered and I removed my jacket, handing it across the table to him. He stared at the jacket and took it hesitantly.

“Thank you for the jacket... And the company. My mum, she had to work late and so I came here and planned to stay until she got off,” said Louis, obviously getting more comfortable. I nodded slowly and interlocked my fingers together. Louis looked at my hands and looked away quickly, blushing again, “Um, Harry, would you like a cup of tea? I get mine on the house,” offered Louis. I grinned and nodded, receiving a small smile from Louis. He yelled to the back and a waitress came out with my tea.

“Can I get some cream please ma’am?” I asked. The waitress smiled and threw a wide-eyed glance at Louis.

“Of course love,” she said, rushing to the back and coming out with the cream. She handed me the cream and I tipped my cup towards her, pouring the cream in and handing back the bottle. The waitress grinned widely and looked between Louis and I. She hurried away and let the door to the kitchen slam behind her.

“Louis, I hate to say it but after I finish my tea I have to get going. So tell me about yourself,” I said, leaning forward on my elbows and sipping my tea. Louis’s eyes were frowning but his mouth was smiling.

“Well... I’m fifteen for starters,” said Louis, his eyes brightening when I smiled.

“I am fifteen as well,” I said, gesturing for him to continue.

“Uh... I live with my mum and about a month ago my Dad moved out and my parents got a divorce a week ago. I don’t like school because I have no friends and all the teachers are pricks,” said Louis. I laughed and he beamed at me, his blue eyes dancing, “I love to sing... I am single... My birthday is December twenty-fourth... And my favourite colour is green,” finished Louis, looking up from his hands and into my eyes. I stared back at him and stopped breathing. His eyes were like big, blue orbs that saw straight through you. I started breathing again when Louis blushed and looked out the window.

“My mum should be coming home about now so... It was nice meeting you Harry,” said Louis, about to remove my jacket. I had finished my tea in time to push the jacket back on his shoulders.

“I’ll walk you home,” I said, not taking no for an answer. I opened the door for Louis and let him out of the shop. He stepped outside and walked with a strangely feminine walk. More of a strut than a walk.

“Thanks for walking me home,” said Louis quietly. I smiled and nudged him.

“Well, now you have a friend,” I said, my smile turning into a grin. Louis beamed and then his smile lessened, to a halfhearted one.

“That’s something new,” he said laughing nervously. We turned onto a street that I had seen maybe once or twice but had never been down.

“So Lou, you have a phone? Maybe I could get your number and we could hang out sometime,” I said pulling out my phone and handing it to him. He eagerly whipped out his phone and handed it to me. I put my number in his phone and named myself ‘New Best Friend Harry’. I handed him back his phone and he beamed at me once again.

“I’ll text you later then.”

“Sure thing mate,” I replied. We got to a rather large flat with a light on in the front and a little Mini Cooper in the driveway. I walked up to the front steps with Louis and he opened the door.

“Come on in Harry, my mum doesn’t bite,” said Louis grinning. I laughed and walked inside. His home was neat and clean. I saw a small woman emerge from the kitchen on the right and smile. I smiled back and pulled off my beanie, hanging it on what seemed like the hat rack and Louis handed me my jacket. I pushed it back at him.

“Keep the jacket,” I said. His mother raised an eyebrow but kept the smile on her face.

“And who might this fine young lad be?” asked Louis’s mother. Louis blushed and pushed his mom.

“Mum, this is Harry. Harry, this is my mum, Ariana,” said Louis. I extended my hand and she shook it. Her hand was so dainty. Must be where Louis got his hands. His hands were so frail, and feminine and... cute.

“Nice to meet you Ms. Ariana,” I said. She smiled and looked between us.

“So... What’s the story?” asked Louis’s mother. I gave her a puzzled look.

“What story?”

“I’m sorry... Louis just doesn’t usually bring boys home! I’m just so happy for him that he met another nice gay lad,” said Louis’s mother. Louis flushed red and yelled at his mother. My mouth dropped in an ‘o’ shape. Louis was gay.

Notes

Harry's chapter is sooooo much longer than Louis's because it was half Louis's and half Harry's. Suggestions? Comments? Likes? Dislikes? Thanks bubs.
