I Don't Understand
My Menagerie
Saturday, 6/20/09
"WakeupWakeupWakeupWakeup!" Kenzie was jumping on my bed. Than Brayleigh ran in and joined her "It's pet day! WakeupWakeupWakeupWakeup Wakeup!!!!!" I grabbed my bedside clock "8am on a Saturday? Seriously?" But I was up. I yawned as I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a plate. Mom had made pancakes and they looked delicious.
I got dressed and went downstairs. We still didn't have our vehicles from home, so we all hopped into our rental and started off. This would be an all-day trip, because the breeder was far away. And much to Dan's dismay, Dad had decided we would be getting a skall dog for our family.
Hours later, we were at the breeder's. Dad told us we could get out, walk around, and use the bathroom, but he was getting his surprise, so not to follow him. He went into the house, and ten minutes later he came out holding a box. He put it in the back and went to get another one. By now everybody was back from the bathroom, and Dad spoke up. "Now, I know by the time we get home our house will look like a petting zoo, but I couldn't resist." He opened the box, and pulled out a tiny little cloud of a dog
"This is Sunshine." We all awe'd. OHMYGOSH SO CUTE! She's teddy bear brown, and less than 9 inches long. He handed the wiggly fluff ball to Me, and reached into the box AGAIN. He pulled out another tiny pomeranian pup!
"And this is Luna." DOUBLE CUTENESS! We all awe'd again. She's black all over, and the same size as Sunshine. But we were amused and shocked. Dad had chosen Pomeranians. kind of Ridiculous. "Now hold up. These two will be staying in Angelina's room this time, because they can't stay in ours, shouldn't stay in the girls', and I don't think Dan would appreciate 24/7 perky puppies." Wow. I practically own two dogs! I spent the drive home holding their box on my lap and stroking the soft fur of these tiny pomeranians. They were perfect, and Dad had picked such clever names! I love them. Although they haven't quite accepted me...
It had been a three hour drive home , and it was almost exactly 6pm. Dad ordered pizza to come in an hour and a half, and we all set about cleaning the house for puppies. I was working with Sunshine and Luna. We had been given a little puppy food and a book on pomeranians. I set up the girls in their box with some food and water, and put myself to the task of puppy proofing my room. I hid cords, covered outlets, cleaned the floor, checked furniture, and so on. Than I grabbed the puppies, some plastic bags, and took them outside. I let them free, because the yard is fenced in. The puppies were walking around, sniffing everything and each other, but mostly steering clear of the pool. I don't know if the pups were sure if they liked us yet, either. I had to get a few things from the store, so I asked Dan if he could watch my Pompoms (new nickname lolz) And I went to the pet store.

I'm in my bedroom with the pups all set up. Dad had put a lockable dog door in the wall next to the back patio door, and my bedroom door. Which is awesome for if they want to come in or go out. But we'll lock them in my bedroom at night so they can't make trouble. My family spent the evening getting to know our mini menagerie.
But now it's 11:30 and I'm in my bedroom brushing these two pompoms of mine. I tuck them into their bed, and hop into mine. Just as I'm falling asleep I hear whimpering, and feel one of them hop onto my bed. soon the others follow, and climb their way under the covers, snuggling together close underneath my chin. I smile, I guess they're really starting to like me. How could I possibly put them on the floor again? I don't have the heart. The three of us all drift off to sleep together.
