In a Heartbeat

Adrenaline

"Mom, really. I'm fine," I insisted for the zillionth time. Ugh. Parents.
I swung my legs off the edge of the exam table, wanting to stand up and walk around. But no. Mom won't let me get up. Walking on air is the next best thing.
Actually, it's the only other thing I can do right now. Ugh.
"She's right," Carl said, whisking the curtain open. "You're free to go. Just take it easy, okay, Mel?"
"Erkie derkie!" I said, hopping down from the exam table. I wiggled feeling back into my legs, which had fallen asleep from sitting too long and from the adrenaline rush during my spinout.
"Let's go get my car," I said, skipping out of the exam room.
"I don't think so," Mom said. "You're going home."
"Moooom!" I whined. "I just wanna see what I did to it!"
"You're not driving it home. Your father and I will get it this afternoon."
"I didn't say I was going to drive it!" I protested. "I just want to see it!"
My mother sighed. "Later."

I walked into my house, still fuming about my car. I threw my bag on the couch and walked straight to the kitchen.
"Hey guys," I said, walking past the boyband in my kitchen.
I don't think I'll ever get used to saying that.
"MELODY!" Niall shouted, standing up abruptly, causing his chair to tip over backward. He launched himself at me, burying his face in my neck as he threw his arms around my shoulders. Four other pairs of arms found their way around me, and I felt rather squished.
It was here, in the middle of a group hug, with claustrophobia settling in, that I felt safe.
Protected.
Wanted.
And I haven't felt this way since Will died.
"Ooookay...." I said after several minutes of excessive hugging. "No chick flick moments. Let me outta here."
The boys reluctantly let go of me, and I continued my journey to the refrigerator.
"We thought the worst," Zayn admitted, blushing.
"Well,"I said, pausing to open a can of soda and take a gulp. "I'm fine, obviously."
My knees gave out and I collapsed to the floor. They all took a worried step toward me, and Harry reached out to help me back up.
I slapped his arms away. "And the adrenaline is still wearing off," I said, grinning. I giggled at their expressions, which ranged from shock to fright to protectiveness, and worry. "My legs feel like Jell-O."
A sigh of relief came from all five of them, and I stared up at the half dozen minus two boyband members. "What? Don't tell me you thought something else. I mean, seriously? Am I the only one that gets weak in the knees after an adrenaline rush?"
They all shrugged, and I flopped backward onto the linoleum floor. "Has anybody else noticed how pretty the ceiling is?"
Oh, God. Now they're gonna think I've really gone off the deep end and took a left turn into Loopyville.
I sat up. "Well, I just took a left turn into Loopyville, so I'm gonna make a U-turn and go back the other way." I pretended that I was driving, holding my arms out in front of me like I was holding a steering wheel. I cranked the imaginary wheel to the left. "Aaaah!" I fake-screamed. "World.... spinning. No.... control...."
I looked up, grinning. Everyone else was just staring at me.
Niall blinked. "That wasn't funny," he said bluntly.
The others nodded in agreement.
"You guys are no fun," I huffed, defiantly taking another gulp of my Sprite. I set it down semi-forcefully on the counter as I stood up. "I'm going downstairs. I have to figure out some stuff on my guitar."
"What for?" Niall asked, his face lighting up.
"I wrote a new song, and I need to figure out some chords."
"Can I help?" he asked eagerly, bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet.
I sighed. "Fine."
"YAY!" he cheered, and raced me down the stairs.

Notes

Okay, so I have this problem.
But I'm not supposed to tell you guys.
ANYWAY, I had a LOT of fun this weekend. I got some pretty awesome pictures.
Wanna see them?
Sorry. You can't. They're mostly of me and my friends. But I'm gonna try and figure out how to incorporate some of the scenery pictures into the story.
Wait.....
I already have plans for them!
MWAHAHAHA!
Enjoy. :)

HEY. Your official-unofficial announcements sadden me. No promises or not, I really, really, really, really, really, really, REALLY hope you decide to eventually continue. I won't even be mad if you do a rewrite but dude, you gotta do something. I WILL DIE IF THIS STORY DOES NOT CONTINUE.

It didn't sound aggressive. I'd be pissed at me, too. I found my charger, but my phone refuses to copy and paste what I've written, which was what my original plan was to do after realizing that it wasn't written in my notebook. I haven't had time to type it all up yet, but I figure that since I have nothing else to do right now (other than watch "Supernatural" and sleep), I should probably update. I've been working on chapter ideas for the sequel, typing them on my phone as they come to me and such, thinking of ways to lead up to them. I'll admit, I suck at it. But I'm working on it! I have a secret partner in crime that's going to help with it. Hopefully.
So I'm gonna quit rambling now and actually go type the chapter.

ThAT WAS FOURTEEN DAYS AGO!!!!!!!!!! Where is your charger? I didn't mean for that to sound aggressive.

To be honest, I already have the name picked out (don't laugh at me if I already said that in the sequel announcement chapter), but that's really good. I might use that for another story I'm working on.
I'm really excited for the sequel because it's going to be kind of like a fresh start, and I have a lot of ideas that I'm super duper excited to use. There's definitely going to be a lot more drama in the sequel and I'm hoping that I might make you guys cry at least once. :)
Your tears bring me great joy.

I seriously cannot wait for the sequel :) And for a name, maybe Don't Believe All You See, but that may be a bit long. Hope you update again soon!!!
