In a Heartbeat

Moo

Melody's POV

The wall split in two and moved to either side, revealing the boys, who walked out onto the performance stage and waved, grinning. Of course, their backs were to me. I was watching them on the monitor from behind them.
"Okay, so we know you all came to hear us sing for you, but after a lot of persuading..." Niall started, then looked to Harry.
"We convinced Melody to sing for you!" Harry said into his microphone. He turned around and looked back at me, and I poked my head out from behind the wall, then the rest of me made an appearance.
I slowly walked farther out onto he stage, shaking slightly. All the boys put a reassuring hand on my shoulders before taking a step back. I wrapped my hands around the microphone on the stand and adjusted it to my height before speaking.
"I'm not exactly sure what I'm supposed to say, but this is a song I wrote," I said, sounding a helluva lot more confident than I felt. "It's no finished, so it's a little short, but it means a lot to me."
I sat cross-legged on the floor after dragging the piano microphone stand over and bending it down so it could pick up my voice. I started strumming my guitar, the sound hauntingly beautiful. Then I started singing.

I’m walking up and down this haunted road
Waiting for you
I look on into the darkness
Hoping that you’ll come back for me
Ever since that day
I wished I could have changed
Everything that happened
I know that I couldn’t have seen
Everything that was right in front of me

‘Cuz now you’re gone
And I can’t wait to see you again
But for now
I’m watching for you
‘Cuz now you’re gone
And I’m still here
Hoping that you’ll come back for me
From the dark
Come into the light

I continued strumming for a few more seconds, then let my hand drop off the strings of the guitar, leaving nothing but a hollow echo. That was all you could hear. The echo.
It was in that moment that I realized that this was everything I ever wanted.

Harry's POV

The entire studio went silent not long after she began singing. It was so silent you could probably hear a pin drop from inside the public bathroom. Actually, I think someone was using one of the toilets.
It seemed like the song lasted forever, but ended too soon. When she dropped her hand, everyone was still silent, leaning forward in their seats for more. When they realized she was finished, a loud round of applause filled the air.
The monitor showed that Melody was grinning at the audience. I don't think I've ever seen her that happy. She was as radiant as the sun.
By the time everyone was itching their hands from clapping too much, we had just enough time to perform one song. Which was a good thing, because we could barely even remember the words to "I Would" after Melody sang, but apparently our fans did, because they did most of the singing. After we finished, we didn't say much before walking backstage again and met up with Melody, who was still grinning.
"I thought that would be harder to do!" she said, bouncing up and down on her feet.
"Well, I think our fans liked you better than they liked us," Liam said teasingly.
She stopped bouncing. "No! They came to see you!" she said, then put on a straight face and rubbed her cheeks. "My cheeks hurt. Anyway, they were just being polite."
"No they weren't," says Louis, stepping forward. "They actually clapped louder for you than they did for us."
Melody looked at him funny. "Wow. Louis' trying to be serious for once. Like, legit serious. I mean, I know he gets serious, but this is just weird!" Then she started making faces at Louis, trying to get him to laugh. There was this one face where she had her thumbs hooked on her upper teeth, her pinkies pushing her nose up into a pig snout, and her middle fingers pushing her eyebrows up so she looked like a demented pig. This cracked everyone up except Louis, who had turned this into a serious game. You could tell he wanted to smile, but he wouldn't.
Then Melody put her hands on her hips and put on a straight face. "Moo."
Louis started laughing like a maniac, doubling over and falling onto the floor, rolling around in stitches. She hadn't even said it in a funny way, it was just a simple monotone.
"It wasn't even that funny, but whatever blows wind up your skirt," Melody said, stepping over Louis and heading toward her family who had just appeared in the doorway.

Notes

Okay, so I know it's a crappy ending, but I'm tired. I can't update tomorrow because we're doing spring cleaning for the first time EVER.
Yes. EVER.
We have a ton of junk just sitting around my house, collecting dust.
I think we'll finally get that mosquito off the wall that I smushed two years ago!

HEY. Your official-unofficial announcements sadden me. No promises or not, I really, really, really, really, really, really, REALLY hope you decide to eventually continue. I won't even be mad if you do a rewrite but dude, you gotta do something. I WILL DIE IF THIS STORY DOES NOT CONTINUE.

@fascinated

It didn't sound aggressive. I'd be pissed at me, too. I found my charger, but my phone refuses to copy and paste what I've written, which was what my original plan was to do after realizing that it wasn't written in my notebook. I haven't had time to type it all up yet, but I figure that since I have nothing else to do right now (other than watch "Supernatural" and sleep), I should probably update. I've been working on chapter ideas for the sequel, typing them on my phone as they come to me and such, thinking of ways to lead up to them. I'll admit, I suck at it. But I'm working on it! I have a secret partner in crime that's going to help with it. Hopefully.
So I'm gonna quit rambling now and actually go type the chapter.

ThAT WAS FOURTEEN DAYS AGO!!!!!!!!!! Where is your charger? I didn't mean for that to sound aggressive.

To be honest, I already have the name picked out (don't laugh at me if I already said that in the sequel announcement chapter), but that's really good. I might use that for another story I'm working on.
I'm really excited for the sequel because it's going to be kind of like a fresh start, and I have a lot of ideas that I'm super duper excited to use. There's definitely going to be a lot more drama in the sequel and I'm hoping that I might make you guys cry at least once. :)
Your tears bring me great joy.

I seriously cannot wait for the sequel :) And for a name, maybe Don't Believe All You See, but that may be a bit long. Hope you update again soon!!!
