How It All Started

New Girl

We just moved to this beautiful place called Holmes Chapel, Cheshire in England, UK. I was really from America, but my mom wanted to move and here we are now.

It’s beautiful here. There are lots friendly people, beautiful parks and the sky never seemed to darken around here, considering the stories of my friends telling that the weather here is really gloomy. I passed by an ice cream shop, it was hot so I decided to go in and eat some ice cream before I walk back home. My mom allows me to ‘explore’ new places as long as I don’t venture off too far from home.

I opened the door and a bell ran indicating that a person just walked in. It was cool inside, there were tables already filled with people ranging from 2 year olds to people in their seniors who like to visit here.

I walked over to the counter to look at the variety of flavors they had. They had strawberry, Chocó mint chip and more.

“Hey, you’re new aren’t you?” The girl who worked the cashier asked in her British accent.

I nodded. “Yep, I’m Mary Pevensie.” I smiled.

“I’m Summer Jones.” Summer smiled at me. “You should try the choco mint chip; it’s our best seller these days.”

I nodded. “Three scoops then. How much?” I asked, getting my wallet out.

‘’It’s on the house, love.” Summer said, giving me my cone with 3 scoops.

I got the cone. “Are you sure?” I asked her.

“New folks always get their first ice cream here for free, dear.” Summer smiled.

I nodded. “Thanks.” Then I walked back home

I love to walk whenever I’m in a place that I’ve never been to.

“I’ve never seen you here before, babe.” A deep, husky voice said.

I looked at where the voice came from and saw a boy with a tall, lean but muscular stature, brown curls and the most beautiful green eyes I’ve seen. “Well, mainly because I’m new here.” I retorted, eating my ice cream.

That made him smile, he has dimples. “No wonder, how stupid of me.” He said, sarcastic.

I laughed and so did he.

“I’m Harry Styles.” Harry smiled.

“I’m Mary Pevensie.” I replied. “Nice meeting you.”

He grinned cheekily. “How’s Cheshire so far, babe?” Harry asked as we both walked.

I shrugged. “I like it here. Everyone’s been nice to me so far.”

Harry smirked. “That’s how we are.”

That made me smile a bit.

“Can I have your number?” Harry asked as I consumed the remains of my ice cream cone.

I smiled and we exchanged numbers.

“Thanks, love.” Harry smiled as he pocketed his phone.

I smiled back. “You’re welcome.”

“See you next week, Mary.” Harry said, going in a house (probably his)

I was confused. “Next week?” I asked.

“I have to record some songs, be on a T.V show and do some fund raisers.” He said. “You can always text or call me” And with that he went in and closed the door behind him.

I stared at the door for a few more seconds then just continued walking home.

“Hey, mom.” I said, closing the door behind me.

I heard her unmistakable footsteps as she descended down the stairs. “Hi, Mary! How was the walk?”My mom, Susan, asked.

“It was fine. I went to this ice cream shop and they gave me free ice cream, they do it to all the new folks around here.” I smiled.

Mom’s brow rose. She loves ice cream. “Really? How nice.” She smiled.

“And I met this girl named Summer who works there. And I met this guys named Harry Styles.” I smiled, sighing. I didn’t mention that he was a member of One Direction, for that would only make her squeal.

Mom grinned. “Is he cute? Is he nice?” She asked, the question every mom asks her daughter whenever her daughter meets a boy.

I nodded. “Yes and yes. He has green eye and dimples.” I said, my voice hinting a dreamy tone.

“Do you have his number?” Mom asked, playfully elbowing me.

“Yep.” I grinned.

She smiled. “Go get him, dear.” Mom said and went to the kitchen.

I went up to my room. And put my wallet and keys on top of my bedside table.

“You want pizza for dinner?” Mom called out from the kitchen.

I sighed. “Yes, please.”

I woke up to a cold and drizzly morning. I wore a sweater and tied my hair up. I went down stairs to see my mom making breakfast. “Morning, mom.” I yawned, sitting down on the couch and turning the T.V on.

“Morning. Do you want pancakes with blueberries?” Mom asked.

I smiled. “You know me too well to ask me that, mom.”

“I do, don’t I?” Mom laughed.

I laughed a long.

I ate my pancakes, relishing every bite and every bit of it.

“You might choke, dear.” Mom said, her voice not showing panic as it was supposed to be.

I shook my head. “I won’t, mom.”

She nodded and continued reading the newspaper.

My mom went out her way and I went out mine.

I headed to the opposite of where I went yesterday to cover more places. I took note of posts, houses to help me work my way home.

“Hi, hun. You must Mary Pevensie.” A nice looking and beautiful woman smiled as she closed the door behind her.

She had brown hair, fair skin and brown eyes. She resembles someone I know, but I just can’t put a finger on it.

“Hello. Yep that’s me.” I smiled. “How did you know?”

She smiled. “ I met your mother yesterday while I went to the market. I’m Anne Cox, by the way.”

“You must be Harold’s mum. Hi, nice to meet you.” I said.

Anne nodded. “The one and only. Nice to meet you too, honey.” She smiled.

She looked so much like Harry, especially whenever she smiles.

“You want some cookies? I baked some before Haz leaves later this afternoon.” Anne asked, green eyes scrutinizing me

I shook my head. “No thank you, I’m fine.” I smiled.

“Are you sure, love?” She said.

I nodded, putting on my best confident smile. “Yep.”

Anne shrugged her shoulders. “Well, you can always come over if you need any help, nice meeting you, Mary.” She smiled, walking back up to the porch.

“Nice meeting you too, see you around.” I smiled and continued on my merry way.

Later the same day, I was slowly drifting off to sleep when my phone vibrated beside me, it was a call from Harry.

“Hi, Haz.” I smiled.

“How’d you know my nickname?” Harry asked, surprised.

I laughed. “I talked to your mom today when I was walking around.” I said, sitting up.

I could hear embarrassment in his voice. “Oh. Uh, how’d that go?” Harry asked.

I shrugged. “She was nice. She even offered me cookies.” I smiled. “In Other words, it went
fine.”

He sighed on the other line. “That’s good. How are you?” Harry asked, changing the subject.

“I’m fine. How about you? You and the lads are probably already out and about.” I said, referring to their activities.

“Same old, same old. Nothing much, we’re taking a break from recording a song.” Harry sighed.

I nodded. “Where are you boys anyway?” I asked, curious.

“Oxford. Kinda far from Cheshire, you should come here. It’s beautiful.” Harry suggested. “Lots of shops you’d like.”

I smiled. “Since when did you know what kind of shops I like?” I asked.

There was a moment of silence. Perhaps he was thinking of an alibi. “I have a sister, so I probably know what kind of shops girls like you like.” Harry said , his voice cool and collected.

I smiled. “Okay.”

“Are you free next Monday?” Harry asked.

"It's still summer here, we've haven't met much people yet. So, yes." I said, shrugging it off.

He seemed hesitant. "Maybe, you'd like to, er.." Harry trailed off, probably nervous. The flirt,
nervous? This is new.

There was noise on the other line. "Harry?" I asked, not sure if it's the signal here or he got
mobbed by a bunch of fangirls. "Harold?"

"Hey,Mary." A voice panted. "This is Lou."

I smirked. "Hi there."

"What this lad here is trying to say is, would you like to go out with him for dinner?" Louis asked, trying to stay on the phone. Maybe he just snagged it from Harry.

I smiled, my cheeks getting brighter. "Where?" I asked.

"Hi, this is me again." Harry chuckled. "Where? My place, babe."

"Isn't Anne going to be there?" I asked.

He laughed a bit. "I have my own place. I don't live with my mum."

I let out a sigh of relief. "What time then?" I asked, I couldn't help but smile

"7:00. I'll pick you up." Harry said, his voice calm.

I can't wait.
